Wow, can't remember when I've had that level of trust or service in a place. I had the toastie with peanut butter, bacon, onion and cheese - was to die for. Before I even thought to take a pic it was all gone. Even the plain cheese toastie was delicious, using a local cheese that I wish I could pronounce or even spell. If you're not up for a toastie go and have a fika - coffee and a cinnamon scroll - also melt in your mouth tasty. Or just have a coffee and soak up the atmosphere.

I would order my macchiato or cappucino for take away, sometimes buying a sandwich, too, just because it is so fresh and delicious. I am always asking myself why I have been addicted to Caffelini coffee and paninni, but the answer is simple: It is so good, my day has to start with something good. I got hooked. A perfectly done macchiato for less than 1.50 EUR, with Italian coffeehouse ambience and friendly barista, I hope more people would discover this place. Definitely something I recommend to friends.

Gilda's looked eccentric and whimsical from the outside and that drew us in. Comfy seating, mood lighting, soft music, a great selection of Kusmi teas and various pies and cakes? We struck gold. After retiring to the couch in the main area with our slices of apple pie and chocolate cake and violet teas, we sunk in for the evening. Something about Gilda's was so enchanting. The conversation flowed smoothly and and we were able to thoroughly enjoy eachother's company here. 30 minutes turned into 2 hours and we decided to get a salad since dinner time was approaching. The salad was hearty and delicious, with a VERY generous serving of goat cheese. Another hour passed as we got refills on our teas and the waitress came over with a free cardamom biscuit for us. We were so touched by the gesture and I was reminded of how delicious cardamon is. We stayed until a few minutes before the cafe closed and I ended up having such a lovely, peaceful evening here that Gilda's will always have a place in my heart.

The Chai Tea Latte is massive but varies widely on taste (remember it fondly in the Winter, not so much in the Summer), and what's up with the 5kr refills for coffee? Jury is in on the Muffins: not worth it though they look like they will be. Overall, I still have a lot of love for this place and recommend it for the area. Great address, friendly staff behind the counter. Prices are as in all other cafés in the city - around 80 SEK for a salad, around 40 SEK for any slice of pie or cake. But what do you get? The salad is a bit dry (they offer extra vinegrette in a bottle at the counter) and the chocolate cake is too (but vinegrette probably won't help that). Cream for your hot chocolate or chocolate cake comes from a can. Not very luxurious but the public has gotten used to it so I guess we have to settle for it. The hours are very generous (for being Stockholm) - they're even open till 10 pm on Sundays. However, well before 9:40 pm they picked everything off our table, shut down the music, turned up the lights and started just standing around to indicate that they really wanted us out of there. Minutes later they started moving tables and cleaning the floor. I'm of the opinion that if a place claims to be open until 10 pm, guest should be able to be there and feel welcome until 10 pm. If they want to clean out the place and go home by 10, they should say they're open for guests until 9:30. Now we left rather bummed out. If nothing else is open (which unfortunately is likely), I'd come back here.

The worker was friendly and helpful and spoke perfect English (which we started to realize about most people in Sweden making it quite easy on the American or British traveler). I had the kanelbullar, a Swedish cardamom roll which I've come to really enjoy with a cappuccino. The cappuccino was delightful and I was good to go after about 15 minutes. Later, we learned this was famous as being Stieg Larsson's (and Mikael Blomkvist's respectively) favorite coffee shop. But it was quiet and not at all crowded to our surprise and relief. Well, at least when we dropped by which gave us more of a reason to love this place. A must visit while in Stockholm.

After a quick search I decided upon Kaffebar yesterday and I'm back again today! Yes, it's that good here. In Sweden they apparently don't eat pancakes or any big breakfast though! Small portions are normal here, the options are yogurt, pastries and tiny meat sandwiches. On day one I settled for an herb-bun pastry that was some sort of sweet bread, accompanied by an espresso. First off the pastry was excellent, better than American pastries, however the espresso was so good compared to my normal Starbucks routine that I wasn't sure how to take it! Day two I switched it up and asked for hot coffee with cream and grabbed a cheese croissant from the self-serve pastry bar. The barista asked "milk?," which I replied "yes!" So they do milk here, not cream. Fantastic, both options by the way. After a few sips of coffee I'm high as a kite! The croissant was ah-maaaaaazing! You can sit outside and people watch or stay inside. Today I'm inside so I can write my family back home while my buddy sleeps for a couple more hours. The icing on the cake here, noted by other reviewers, is that Stieg Larsson, author of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, frequented this joint. Who knows, perhaps I'm sitting in his seat today?

While the menu is small, the wine list is huge. Wines by the glass are varied and reasonably priced. The food menu is limited but has a good variety. The pasta was superb, as was the veal. The "Break the Bank" dessert was fun, and well worth it if you still have room for ice cream, chocolate and other goodies. Service was excellent and our server was very personable and accommodating. By the time we left the restaurant at 8 pm it was nearly full. We're glad we ate there.
