Apparently, this is the place to be in Grand Marais, pretty much any day of the week! We stopped in for some coffee after lunch on our way to see the sights. The place was packed to the gills, with many people waiting to get a seat. Prices were right, service was friendly, and the coffee was great! Visited this amazing coffee shop while in Grand Marais last week. They have delicious coffee drinks and food as well. I ordered the iced mocha and a sandwich meal. I had the chicken salad croissant and my son had the turkey sandwich. It was delicious. The girls working behind the counter were so friendly and talkative. Highly recommend this awesome place with a great view of Lake Superior. Hope to return next time I'm up north. read more

I can't give this place five stars because their parking situation stinks. Still, not the problem of the wonderfully friendly staff working there. They have a latte called "White Christmas". It's simply to die for. Cute, cabin-y and the best coffee shop in Grand Marias. They also have ice cream and pastries. I like the Java Moose. I'll be back! read more

I really like coffee and I really like the vibes of this northwoods coffee shop! It's right on Lake Superior which makes for beautiful views!! I got the iced mocha with almond milk but you can really taste the almond so if you don't like that beware. read more

We stopped in for a tasty treat after spending some time canoeing/camping for a few days. We were not disappointed. We had a scoop of chocolate peanut butter and the campfire smore variety. They had some other great flavors that looked just as yummy. We didn't enjoy any of their coffee, but it looked like a busy place with a lot of regulars. When you enter the door you will feel like you should be in line with Matthew Matheau and John Lemmon as a guest star in Grumpy Old Men. This is how every true Minnesotan Coffee shop should be. The décor is not to be missed with a true vibe of the north woods. The Iced Mocha is delicious but not as good as Fika Coffee in Lutsen, The staff are friendly and this place can be crowded during tourist weekend season. This spring we returned to the Java Moose and my mother's day coffee (a little early) had a nice flower drawn on the top. I took a photo and so did other people in the restaurant at the time. Very fun visit! The Grand Marais harbor on Lake Superior is so beautiful now and you can enjoy coffee on the Java Moose deck and watch the lake. So relaxing. read more

My camping crew and I visited this establishment at 6am because we were swimming in our tent after a horrid thunderstorm. It was the earliest place open in town. I wish they had indoor seating so we could have sat down and dried off, but alas they did not. I had a medium breve and it was tastey. Good coffee, baristas were very kind and friendly ladies. very friendly, cozy, moosey. they girl behind the counter was talking to the guy ahead of in line (who was wearing all camo gear) about hunting. how she grew up on game, and how bear tastes somewhat like pork, only sweeter if you cook it properly. Here visiting family and I've gone here twice. The first time I asked for a tepid almond milk latte saying I just didn't want it too hot... it was scalding. I gave them a second try a few days later (today) and ask for a caramel flavored tepid almond milk latte asking for it to be done around 140°... I get an unflavored scalding latte. Needless to say I won't be back. I don't see how a company can stay in business when they can't manage a simple request. I understand almond milk is more difficult to work with and it gets hotter faster, however, if you can't successfully put out a product, then you shouldn't be offering it. read more

I am admittedly not a big fan of the coffee itself. The roast is just a tad too dark for me. BUT if it suits your pallet, they offer a nice variety, the pricing is reasonable, yummy baked goods, and superior, fast, fun service. Cozy place with outdoor seating and nice lake views. What a great Coffee spot. I thought it was busy and going to take a while when the line was out the door. However, service was super quick and the drinks were amazing. Great find after several days in the wilderness. We had a latte and a cappuccino. Good pourable foam, although the temperature of the steamed milk was a bit too high. I liked the espresso a lot, but my wife thought it was a bit over-roasted (but still well drawn). Despite any flaws, it was way better than Starbucks and better than many independents we try. They sell the aerobie aeropress, which to me indicates they're serious about the coffee. read more

While it looks like a cute coffee shop and the staff are very sweet, the drinks are well - they really don't taste much better than your typical gas station drink. The espresso is very burnt, flavorings are weak, and the hot chocolate tastes like a watered down Swiss Miss. the chai is actual chai, so not super sweet and syrupy. read more

I'm not sure what happened with my latte. I was driving south through Grand Marais, and stopped to get something to drink on the way. I added a bit of sugar and cinnamon myself. I did notice the foam layer seemed very thin, but didn't taste it or anything until I was a few miles down the road. It was essentially flavorless. I mean, it basically tasted like watery cinnamon, with no discernible espresso flavor. I ended up throwing nearly the whole thing away the next time I stopped. read more

This is the defacto example of a bad product in a prime location. Unfortunately, due to the beautiful Lake Superior landscape across the street, people line up out the door. Leaving poor unsuspecting first comers with the false notion that the coffee here is even mildly adequate. A friend of mine has a cabin in the area an warned me that he did not think the coffee was up to snuff. I'm pretty easy to please. How bad can it possibly be? ... Bad enough for me to write this review in hopes of saving future visitors from bitter taste of remorse I found from the first sip to the last. I ordered a white mocha and my friend ordered a cappuccino. Neither of us could muster the willpower to maximize the value of our $4 cups. The white mocha tasted like steamed skim milk. No trace of anything whatsoever. No white chocolate and no espresso. I hope they improve the product. The town is incredibly charming and the location is fantastic for a hot beverage and a stroll by the lake. But for now, My advice is save your money for the nearby Dairy Queen. read more
