This is a must stop in Grand Marias!!! An amazing coffee shop with a great selection of other drinks as well. (I was super happy to find out they had Italian Cream Sodas). They have a great process for COVID precautions and plenty of outdoor seating. I had the huckleberry shores drink which is a sparkling huckleberry lemonade and I had to go back later that week for another! They have a great selection of coffee drinks and specialty drinks. They also have a great selection of other non-dairy options! During lunch they have sandwiches that looked amazing and baked goods. We did pick up a few souvenirs as well, a t-shirt and a few coffee cups as is now tradition! The baristas and the owner (I believe) were so amazing and helpful!! We came here every day during our fall getaway to the North Shore, the coffee was great! They were set up to handle covid really well and the service was very friendly. It was VERY busy on a Saturday morning, and my boyfriend and I were in a race (he was in line at Worlds Best Donuts), and Java Moose won the race in terms of getting through the line with our product first. I'm now enjoying a bag of beans we brought home from Java Moose and each cup is bringing back memories of our lovely few days on the North Shore. read more

We've been making the annual trip to this area for a number of years now, and Java Moose is a morning tradition. The lines can be very long if you are in town during a busy time, but the staff is efficient, and everything moves along at a good pace. I get either iced mochas or hot chai lattes, and I have found both to be good. Plenty of the usual milk alternatives available. I like to sit in the chairs outside. COVID times pushed the lines outside, but they still moved at a decent pace. If you want a cuppa joe (or something fancier) I recommend Java Moose. read more

This is one of the best coffee shops I have EVER been to. The location is beautiful and has an excellent view of Lake Superior. The interior is super cute and very clean. Workers were all wearing masks and taking precautions. The menu has an excellent variety of coffees and teas. I would recommend the Campfire Mocha, Chai Latte, and Blueberry Scones. Local place to grab coffee in Grand Marais and they do not disappoint. Most local coffee shops follow the same template of menu offerings and higher quality than the chain stores and this is what you will find at the Moose as well. I will give them props though for having some unique espresso drinks that I haven't seen before. Being a Star Wars fan, I had to try the Dark Side Mocha. Good stuff. They have a beautiful view of the Lake Superior right out their front door and honestly what better way to view the lake on chilly days than with a cup of coffee? This is a cute little shop right in the harbor of Grand Marais, MN. A great little tourist stop with very friendly staff. The prices seem fair and the coffee and other drinks are delicious. They make an effort to get to know you and make you feel at home even though you might just be passing through their little town! There isn't a ton of seating, so on popular days be prepare to take your coffee to go because it can get crowded. The staff worked diligently and it made for a great atmosphere. I am so surprised this coffee shop has such a high rating given the terrible coffee the 4-5 times I have gone. I have gotten multiple different drinks every time I have gone and each time it was bad. The coffee is flavorless, the tea is weak and the only good thing about this place is that they sell the worlds greatest donuts from down the street, and they have friendly staff. Again just really shocked this has such great ratings. I don't know if the people reviewing aren't big coffee people or what but I would say the coffee at the gas station is probably a better bet. I never asked the baristas to fix my drink because I was usually in a hurry or it was during the pandemic and why would I go back and skip the line to get another crappy coffee. What a solid, great little coffee shop with a beautiful exterior and interior and fantastic view! We loved finding this place. The coffee is very good. My only complaint were the prices were super high (to be expected in a tourist town) and they charge extra for non dairy opinions which isn't cool in my opinion. Still, a great little place with kind and helpful staff. My husband got an apple cinnamon scone that he loved and I got a breakfast stand which that was delicious - the croissant part was perfect! But my favorite part was the view of the harbor. What a great establishment! I would have gone again but the prices were just too much for our budget. read more

I can't say a whole lot about the Java Moose because our first visit wasn't great enough for us to go again. I had a mango smoothie that was way too sweet and over syrup-ed. This is a totally cute little coffee shop with a really great name! The staff who greeted us were friendly and courteous and filled our order right away. There is a nice side room that is great for folks who come with computers or other devices, and there's free Wi-fi. Unlike many coffee shops, there are a TON of outlets to plug into, so another bonus. My one complaint is that it was really warm inside, and if it were really crowded, I think it would be quite uncomfortable. Found this little coffee shop while on my trip to Grand Marais. They have a nice line set up to keep everyone 6ft apart, which might seem long since it comes out the door, however the wait time wasn't very long. I ordered an Iced Nordic Miel w/ oatmilk and it was so delicious. Just the right amount of sweet, and the coffee was smooth. Staff was very kind, and the cashier was very bubbly, and happy. I've been to Java Moose a couple times during our week-long vacation in Grand Marais and I may go back a few more times. The coffee is really good, the view is AMAZING, and the place just feels very comfortable and friendly. There is a little seating area indoors and also a deck on the front of the building where people can sit and sip coffee as they look out at Lake Superior. I did see one guy with a laptop but I didn't ask him if they had free wi-fi. read more

Cute little establishment in the center of town in Grand Marais, MN. They serve coffees, cider, hot chocolate, tea, and some food like oatmeal, and other pastries. My husband and I popped in for coffee and it was pretty good. There is a line that goes out the door but don't be intimidated by this, it moves quickly and is really more of an interior design flaw then a symbol of speed of the baristas. There is outdoor seating with a lovely view of Lake Superior and ample parking, both in the lot and on the street. As you come into town from the south you go down a long hill and there it is, you can't miss it. Literally in the center of town. I recommend it to all! read more

Note that Java Moose has two locations. They have a year round location on the main stretch and an extra summer location. The summer location is right on the beach. I've never had a better morning coffee experience, EVER. You buy your favorite cup of coffee and then they have picnic tables and adirondack chairs to sit and enjoy for as long as you like with the view of Lake Superior. Our experience here was quite unpleasant, first the barista acted extra put out when we asked about drink sizes and had to obviously expend a lot of effort in the request, while on the patio another staff was complaining about the staff inside which is always pleasant to overhear, then another staff member got rude with us about where our vehicle was parked because it was in their "fire lane" when there is absolutely no indications it was the places fire lane and got all dramatic about how if the place burns down how would the fire trucks get to them....lastly my americano was weak enough to see through, we definitely choose the the co-op for our coffee needs the rest of time we were in town for the week. read more
