Felicia was wonderful, this morning. Explained everything to me, went over my allergies & needs. I…read morewill be back, next week.

Where do I even begin? I bought the Groupon special for 3 IPL photofacials for $199 and I thought…read moreis that too good to be true? Well I guess it was. I went in on a Thursday for my first procedure (first at this facility - second in my life). The place is very nice and clean and the staff was so sweet. Laurie was very nice and seemed to know what she was doing. I had one done before (mind you at a different business) and wasn't scared or nervous. I left that day went home to notice minor swelling. I woke up in the middle of the night with a very scary person in the mirror. I didn't get too concerned YET, and continued to ice my face. Then I woke up Friday morning early to discover I was completely disfigured with a very swollen face. I was in complete shock and crying wondering what was I going to do? I had to wait until the office opened and called them immediately. I told them I was worried on what happened and they asked I send pictures to them. I did that right away and was called back by the nurse, Melanie, who said I needed to come in and get a steroid shot. I was also asked about the numbing cream and cooling gel that was put on my face. I NEVER got the numbing cream! But they said well that doesn't have to be done?!! I should have realized then something was up. Due to my first one being done so long ago I didn't remember numbing cream until they slipped and said that. I live in the south side of town, so it was hard trying to get there when my face was so swollen that my left eye was covered from the swelling it made it hard to see out of that eye. Not to mention my tears running down my face. I got my boyfriend to drive me that morning. Dr. Broussard and Melanie came in to see and assess my face. They said the steroid shot would help with the swelling in a quicker manner. So I received the shot and was told I would be checked on throughout the weekend. I was pleased with their compassion and concern. I went home and waited about 6 hours after the shot and called them back to tell them nothing was happening. And Dr. Broussard proceeded to tell me that it would take 6-12 hours to notice a change. A few more hours pass and no improvement at all. I called my GP, Dermatologist and the Athena staff back to see what I needed to do. I was encouraged by both my GP and dermatologist to see the ER. So off to the ER I went. I was told it was not an allergic reaction and the steroid wouldn't help at all. It was major Edema which is fluid buildup. The only thing I could do is rest and ice my face. So I was doing that for 3 days stuck at home with a disfigured face. Monday rolls around and still no call from the staff. I am able to go to work with little embarrassment on my face. I write them an email and send photos of my face and request a refund as I would not like to take a chance at this ever happening again. I tell them my biggest disappointment is no one reaching out to me like they said. Dr. Broussard then calls me and tells me Melanie called me Sunday and had a conversation with me. Uh no ma'am I never got a call and didn't talk to Melanie. She then proceeded to act as if the steroid could have altered my remembering the call?!!! I was in shock that she was accusing me of forgetting about a conversation I supposedly had with Melanie. I was on Motrin not a pain killer! That was almost a slap in the face. She was more concerned that I wrote that email saying how disappointed I was with the staff. She tried to clear up their mistake by making me the "crazy patient." This whole experience has been so negative that I cannot even think of myself ever doing business with them again. They thrive on the we care about the patient, but apparently that is not the case. They care about themselves and if a bad word gets out about them. Well here is the bad word! Now the swelling can happen, but hasn't happened to anyone I know or anyone else at their facility or the one facility I went to for my first. Was it the fact I didn't receive numbing cream, my skin is sensitive? I have no idea, but I am just warning others of my experience.
