A huge banner decorates the cheerful front window of Hamdy's declaring "THIS IS A PORN FREE NEWSAGENT." Thank goodness for that I say. I agree with Hamdy's and have no problem with people that partake in the purchase of porn, I just don't want to witness them doing it when I buy my morning paper and orange juice. Although it is not possible to buy porn here, Hamdy's has a huge selection of other types of magazines, from fashion to fishing and everything in between. It's almost as if they are trying to encourage non porn related hobbies and I think it's all very refreshing. They also stock everything else a porn free newsagent should have: cigarettes, sweeties and Ebony cards. These are my favourite cards, they feature ebony beauties in all sorts of situations (playing pool, going to church, etc.) and say things like "You are a strong, good man, a man that doesn't walk away, Happy Birthday brother." What more could you ask from a paper shop? If your answer is porn than go buy it in Soho, because in Stoke Newington, we like to keep things nice and clean.

You can also buy your Oyster cards here or get a top up in the mornings. A word of warning though, there's usually huge queue on a Monday morning so either get it the night before or be prepared for a long wait - this has often made me late for work. I love this little newsagent's... it's always been really handy when passing through Clapham Junction.

There's a lot of merchandise to choose from, from clothes to stationary to books to toys. There's also 2 realistic looking statues of Paddington inside the store you can pose with. Since our hotel was literally across the street, we went back twice with 2 different British friends who had never been and also thought it was really cute. The second time around I also went back specifically for a keychain version of Paddington. To this day it's still one of my favorite souvenirs from London.

Yikes! Hello tourist central!…read more Popped in after work to get a tea pot and some mugs for my tea-monster of a boyfriend and to be honest the experience was a bit of a disaster in terms of being stuck in a TINY shop in a swarm of tourists all trying to work out which English teas to take home as souvenirs. The service was very slow although I'm pretty sure it was the girl on the till's first day so I can't be too mean about that. On the plus side I found exactly what I wanted and there is another store just a stone's throw away on Lower Regent Street which is slightly larger and was, at the time I popped in, less crowded. Expect this shop to be busy at all times - it's extremely small and they're in one of the most popular tourist areas in London, right next to Piccadilly Circus. Let's face it - tourist of local - everyone loves a cuppa tea!

I'd have lost my marbles if folks behaved like this at a store. They didn't bat an eyelid and kept helping everyone through the chaos. I have mad respect for them!

I say short staffed because my visit was in the run up to Christmas and there were many people in there doing their last its of kiddy shopping. The range of product is vast, as you would expect at a Toys R Us. However the store over Purley is bigger and has more stock. There is ample parking as it is part of a new industrial site. All in all its a toy shop which does what it says on the tin, sells many child related items to satisfy more or less any child.
