Jasmine at New World Makati: Great Food, Terrible Service
I've given Jasmine at New World Hotel multiple chances, but after three visits, I can confidently say: the food may be good, but the service is a dealbreaker.
What We Ordered & Our Thoughts:
1. Scallop Dumpling - One of the highlights of our meal. The dumpling skin had a lovely texture, and the filling was fresh and flavorful.
2. Crispy Roast Duck - The duck was tender and well-seasoned, but it could have been crispier. The sauce was delicious, though.
3. Black Pepper Beef - Classic dish, well-executed. The beef was tender, and the sauce had a good balance of spice and umami.
4. Seafood Crispy Noodles - A solid dish with a good mix of textures from the crispy noodles and the thick, savory sauce.
5. String Beans with Minced Pork - This was a standout! The beans were cooked perfectly, with just the right snap, and the minced pork added a great depth of flavor.
6. Salted Egg Prawns - Creamy, rich, and indulgent. A good take on this popular dish, but not the best I've had.
Ambience:
Jasmine boasts an elegant Chinese-inspired interior, with a sophisticated yet comfortable vibe. It's a great place for family gatherings or business lunches.
Service:
Here's where Jasmine falls apart. Each visit, I hoped for better service, and each time, I was disappointed. The staff consistently ignores guests, making it feel like they are intentionally inattentive. Calling a server's attention is frustrating--they either pretend not to see you or take forever to respond. Even simple requests take too long, leaving a sour note despite the good food.
Final Verdict:
Great food
Nice ambience
Horrendous service
There are plenty of other good Chinese restaurants in Manila where you can enjoy great food without the frustrating service experience. I won't be coming back. Jasmine needs a serious service revamp if they want to match their premium pricing with a premium experience read more
