Jarvis Square Tavern is the old "Poitin Stil" space in Jarvis Square. It's mostly the same friendly dive bar you might remember, but now it is perhaps a bit fancier inside, and they host an open mic on Wednesday evenings, along with other events on other days, from time to time. Hungry? They have no kitchen, but a QR code lets you order in from R Public House, or you can fire up Uber Eats and the world is your oyster. The patio is huge and a wonderful place to sit on a warm summer day. The tavern is part of a set of wonderful businesses along this block of Jarvis, including Charmers (coffee), Horseplay (gifts), Taste (wine, liquor and more), R Public House (bar/restaurant) and Jarvis Square Books (bookstore). The business owners here are trying hard to build up a good sense of community and I think they succeed. It's easy to get here on transit, just steps from the Jarvis red line stop, and it's been my favorite neighborhood bar for almost five years now. Thanks to Tony, A. Really enjoyed our first time at Jarvis Square Tavern. We popped in as part of a day of bouncing around to catch the first half of the USWNT and enjoy a pint. It was a lovely time. We were clearly non-regulars, but we certainly weren't made to feel that way. Very welcoming, with friendly service and a little bit of chit chat. Could definitely see coming back up to enjoy another match; they also have plenty of interesting themed nights revolving around food, art/music, and celebrating queer voices (while also being straight friendly). Can't think of a better neighborhood bar if you live in the area, or, if you're like us, looking for a place to hang your hat for an hour or two. read more

bartender very rudely accused our group of 3 of all being underage. it's fine, we're all 23, we're used to bars checking how young we are (especially when the youngest patrons there are mid-30s). she got genuinely upset we were of age. scanned our IDs, then checked an ID book, then messaged her manager about it in front of us. got smug accusing a trans woman of having a fake because it had M as the gender marker, smirking about not having to give it back because she was so blindly obsessed with being right. then of course had to give her the ID back because it was real, we are 23, you are just weird & vindictive. i am usually empathetic to people just trying to do their job, but she was so bent out of shape about us actually being of age. isnt that what you're supposed to want? put up a sign saying "40+ only" if you have such a chip in your shoulder about who you want to serve. if she hadnt already poured all of our drinks we would have just left, but i guess we also felt something to prove from the level of complete disrespect. read more

This is our jarvis cash only bar. Its by the jarvis red line and it's laidback. The bar tender was very friendly and I got the table I wanted. You can order food in the app and the next door restaurant does bring it in for you. My only thing I found strange was some people had their dogs inside the place, which is ok, but maybe not so much if you're celebrating your birthday or bringing someone for a date. My love was formerly a resident of Rogers Park, and she had taken me to this location a few years ago when it was a different bar. We recently visited what is now known as Jarvis Square Tavern, as it is conveniently located near the Jarvis Red Line station. We wanted to enjoy a nightcap before our commute home, and they seem to be well stocked with pours from several of our wonderful local breweries (that includes you - Old Irving Brewing!). It was relatively quiet for a Saturday night, but we were fine with that. I believe they hosted some sort of Santa event earlier that day (ya gotta believe), so perhaps the crowd skewed earlier that day. read more

Cool little bar located close to the station with some places to eat around it. It may not look like much. Jarvis Square Tavern is actually just a place with drinks, but you can order food and have it delivered to you. Good place to watch a game. There's a few pretty loud TVs. After getting off at the Jarvis CTA station, we crossed the street and came here. It was crowded because a game was on. There was still room at the bar though. It only has drinks but the bar next to it delivers. The menu is pretty simple. I had a Mezcal Coke. It's $8 and is strong. This is made with Mexican Coke, Mezcal Artesenal El Guell Mezcal, habanero bitters, and Tajin Rim. As for the food, we had some delivered. We got the Cauliflower Wings. It's $10 for a basket. These are tossed in a choice of sauce, and we got the Spicy Asian sauce. Burning mouths. This was about as healthy as you can get really. Good amount of cauliflower. The sauces are bleu cheese or ranch, so none that's non dairy so that part sucks. Getting here from public transportation is convenient. It's literally almost across the street from the CTA station. I really love this spot, which is basically a straight-friendly sports bar for queer people. But it's also so much more. They have a great tap list if you're into beer. They also a classy but accessible cocktail menu. On one visit, there was an almond joy slushie spinning in the slush machine, and I think the other was a red wine slushie. I got free samples, and they were both delicious. The bartenders are great. On another visit, the owner thought I might like to try a hard kombucha after I ordered a hard seltzer and took the initiative to bring it to me. It was so thoughtful! They have open mic night on Wednesday and also host other fun community events. They don't serve food, but you can order from R Public two doors down and have it delivered right to your table. Incredibly rude bartender. Made us feel unwelcome at this establishment. Tried to tell us everyone in our group had to order something or leave (at a cash only bar). Those of us who had drinks just drank them as fast as we could so we could get out. Won't be coming back. read more

Met wonderful owners at China Crisis concert that got canceled at Space in Evanston. So impressive how they pivoted and offered their place as an alternative for that great band to play! Me and a group of friends were having a night out to celebrate our 24th friends birthday. We wanted to support a local Roger's park business and have a great night. We got there snd it was a quieter night but we like to make the best out of every situation. Two of our friends initially ordered drinks and one is from wisco and would not believe our friends were of age. After the ID passed, the bartender yelled at our group "EVERYBODY SHOW ME THEIR IDS". We thought it was a joke bc everybody is of age. I walked up to the bartender to break the tension and order a drink. I presented my IL ID and would not believe I was over 21. Started to scan and look up something on her phone as she was looking at my ID. The tender seemed disappointed that I was of age and wanted to prove that I was underage. I felt unwelcome and harassed. But then proceeded to yell at my 5 other friends. We understood the tender is doing their job but they were disappointed as each person were of age as they continued to yell at us for IDs. They were trying their best to find a reason not to serve us. We were all over the age of 23 and did not cause a ruckus when we entered the bar. We wanted to spend money at this establishment. But me and my friends are still lost of words as to what happened. read more
