We decided on some quiet time in the Texas hill country far away from the Spring Breakers. We came…read moreacross this place online and liked the reviews. Keep in mind when you're trying to get away from it all, you are also gonna find that there's not as much to do either. There's a handful of restaurants, bars and thrift shops and one thing that we noticed is that many of these places are closed on Monday and/or Tuesday. On our arrival at this B&B we were welcomed by Keith and Darrin.......and the cat. This husband and wife team do a great job of making your stay here enjoyable. Breakfast is included with your stay, and it is a lot better than anything you'll get at a comfort inn (see photos). You can eat in the dining room or take a tray upstairs to your room. Now for the inn itself. This is not a house that was later turned into a B&B, it was actually designed as a B&B from the start. Each room has its own balcony and bathroom. The place has a nice rustic feel about it, but it does not have that musty or moldy smell that some old buildings have. The building itself is about 20 years old and is in very nice clean shape. The rooms have wooden creaking floors and the furnishings look as though they're from the 80s and 90s. The amenities include a mini fridge, a Keurig, artificial fireplace and a flatscreen. Since half of your stay here is spent on a bed, each room has a king size bed that is made with coiled mattress springs, not memory foam. We found it to be a little bit softer than we prefer and there is a subtle trampoline effect when your partner moves in the night. Our room had an additional twin bed which my wife preferred after the first night. Our room had a spacious balcony on the corner of the house that overlooks the backyard all the way to Canyon Lake a few miles away. And speaking of the lake, there is no trail that leads from the B&B to the lake, you will have to drive there. However, on those early misting mornings, you'll most likely see deer below your balcony. There was plenty of hot water in the shower and the bathtub came equipped with air jets. I have included pictures of the other rooms here, just not ours. One other facet about this B&B is that it makes a great small venue for a wedding outside and you can book the rooms for your guests. An added benefit is that Darrin owns a floral business on the property. Massages are also offered here. However, I do need to point out that parking is very limited here and street parking is not an option. We spent five quiet nights here in March for the sum total of $1080. Given my experience, a better name for the "Prow'd House B&B" is the "Arrogant House B&B."…read more Made a reservation there for a weekend stay with my wife. After giving me a choice of two rooms, and recommending one in particular (which of course I chose), the reservation person required that I give her my credit card number, date of expiration, security code, my billing address, my email address and also my cellphone number. A few hours later I got an email from her saying that she'd made a mistake and that the rooms she'd described were in fact not available; but that for an extra $50 I could rent a very nice suite that was indeed available. I wrote her back and said that I was disappointed and extremely concerned that she'd required me to give her all the above confidential information for nothing, and that I thought the most fair thing was that they just allow us to stay in the suite she was now saying they had available, but that we shouldn't be charged more. After a couple of days she wrote back to say that she'd talked with the owner and that the owner would not do that; so I could either pay the $50 more or they wouldn't help me. Now . . . you decide. What's the right name for this place? "Prow'd?" Me thinks not (as in Yelp's 1 star "Eeks, me thinks not"). How you treat people matters. Maybe 20 years ago this "Prow'd House" could unprofessionally treat its customers and no one would know. But times have changed and how you treat people these days can become a more public fact. Awesome food (not only for tourists but especially for locals in a food desert)…read more I've found a sense of community at this establishment which is something I think a lot of locals in this remote area need! The potato skins might as well be a baked potato they are so loaded. I have a burger tattoo I love burgers so much. I can't decide if I like Maven's burgers or their sliders better. I suppose it just depends on my mouth's girth's mood. Also notable- the bacon wrapped dates and the Mac n cheese. They have events (bingo, karaoke, etc) damn near every night if they don't have live music. You may even see the owners frying fries and/or waitressing tables. This place is small town in the best way and we are so grateful for it!

It's a clown show. The music is terrible. The food is okay. The bartenders are inconsistent. And the staffing is so minimal that it takes a while to even let someone know you've arrived. You will need at least 1.5hrs for a meal because service is so slow. And you'll need to add the additional time to even be recognized as a customer.

Kind, helpful and makes the BEST breakfast of any B&B I have ever stayed in!! This includes selection and preparation! I like staying in the cabins for a more rustic, away feel. They are tiny but well stocked with what you need. The house is very nice and the rooms are large and well appointed. She provides golf carts to get around the property which is riverfront on the Blanco River. She has grills and chairs there. She also has tubes and stuff. My favorite thing to do is fish!! They are always small but I always catch something and that is what is important to me! My first stay here was probably 8 or so years ago and I keep coming back and it never disappoints!! Just thinking about it now makes me look at the calendar to see when I can make a reservation!

I was looking for a place to stay for our vacation and the majority of places were either booked up…read moreor was just out of our budget.Luckily somehow I found this little hidden gem.I've been to New Braunfels several times and never came across this place.It's just a very nice quite cozy little place.The place we got had a kitchen in it which saved us quite a bit of money from eating out every day.They have plenty of grills to cook out on.The place is very clean and the people there are very accommodating.Anything you need just ask for it.They also have a nice little pool there which we took advantage of a couple of times.As far as the tv goes it's a nice tv but I'm not sure if they had cable or not?I brought my firestick and just got their Wi-Fi password.Overall I was very satisfied and would highly recommend this place.I forgot to mention it's just right around the corner from Gruene district.If you get a chance to book this place do it.You want regret it.

The manager was there working outdoors when we arrived and was happy to allow us in. Our room was fabulous! Clean, lovely decor, enormous and well appointed. My daughter was thrilled it wasn't right next door to Gruene Hall, although we wouldn't be there for Music over a weekend. The noise level in the cottages would be definitely better....the location is wonderful. I'll never pay for anywhere else in Gruene again unless I'm camping.

***PARENTS OF THE BRIDE REVIEW***…read more You have seen our daughter's review, so we thought it was only fair that we provide information from our vantage point as well. My wife and I have been staying at the Square Inn for many years now and have always been impressed with the wonderful hospitality provided by Marci, Lloyd and their team. From the wonderful rooms to the fresh cooked breakfast's every morning it is more like visiting family than staying in a bed and breakfast. When they started construction on their Legacy Lounge our only daughter was already engaged and looking for a venue. We immediately recommended that she consider having her wedding here and once she had a chance to take a look she was sold as well. From the very beginning Marci was there to help with suggestions for the wedding and referrals to local businesses that could help us put together the wedding my daughter wanted. Given that our daughter informed us in November she wanted to be married in late April or early May I do not think we could have put this together without her. In the end we booked not only the Legacy Lounge but all 8 rooms of the Square Inn as well. I highly recommend this arrangement as there were enough rooms for the wedding party and increased the footprint of the event allowing for a truly unique experience. We would find out as time went on that the value received on our money was greater than what we believe we would have received at any of the other venues we looked at. Marci, Lloyd and their team were again on point on the day of the wedding providing the services of wedding coordinator, bar staff and entertainment coordinator. There was never a long line at the bar. When some guests wanted to watch the hockey playoffs Marci made that happen on an outside TV. Fire Pit? Here came Lloyd to make the fire come to life. It was almost as if it were if it was one of their own children was getting married that day. At the end of the evening when it was time to go, we moved the happy couple to the front of the Square Inn where they were able to say goodbye to all their guests and finally relax for the evening. As we had booked all the rooms, only the wedding party remained after the ceremony and reception and the bride and groom were able to spend a quiet night in the courtyard with their closest friends relaxing after what had been a couple of very busy and stressful days. This was the most unique wedding we have ever attended and we cannot think of anything that could have made it better. If you are looking for a somewhere to hold a special event, do yourselves a favor and give the Legacy Lounge / Square inn a look. I can guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Their prices are average for party rooms. The event center rooms are nice and clean. The resort is dated but not by light years. It boast a 1995 look. Go during the holidays because the decor and Christmas lights are beautiful. The rooms are similar to what you would find in a Motel 6, clean, simple and affordable. We rented two queen bed rooms at $89 per night, a black Friday special! I also tried out their Sunday houses which is a one room cottage. The privacy is nice and the rooms are super clean. The restrooms are also clean and feature the 1995 esq look. The landscaping and walking trails are beautiful. The pool is nice and the hot tub stays hot. The practice putting green is cool. Their are fire pits around and lit during the night. This is a great place to hang out with the family while touring around the Texas Hill Country. Enjoy!
