Inside the building - which is a 150-year old former mansion, there are 4 rooms with some exhibits, animals like snakes and turtles, and a good-sized play area. This museum teaches people about the beginnings of our lives as humans together. The Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures Museum started in 1919 holds a collection of many interesting artifacts over 350,000 artifacts from archaeologists on expeditions mostly in West Asia and North Africa during the 1920-1940s. It mainly has galleries of ancient Egypt, Nubia, Persia, Mesopotamia, Syria, and more. The is Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures Museum is also a continous place of research and learning sponsoring archaeological and text-based research projects. The Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures Museum is not really kid friendly but great for adults, researchers, anyone who appreciates ancient civilizations. This museum is free for all but the current suggested donation is $15. My favorite part of the museum is the Human-Headed Winged Bull (lamassu), Palace of the Assyrian king Sargon II , Dur-Sharrukin (modern Khorsabad) from Iraq. Don't hesitate to explore the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures Museum because it is very much worth it!

Whenever someone spots an interesting bird, they pull their binoculars up and everyone can see this, so they kind of coagulate wherever this happens with quick, soft questions on the order of, "what do you see?" or "where are you looking?" and nobody seems to mind all the horning in so little groups seem to form and dissipate quickly in the Magic Hedge, almost as quickly and randomly as the birds themselves. I have a theory that the birds come to watch the people, and that they consider it as interesting as we do.

The garden is wide open and has a lot of shade, which makes it popular with people just wanting to relax and take a load off. The garden is located in the heart of the city, just off of the main drag, so it is not very peaceful or quiet and there is a constant chorus of loud cars, music and emergency vehicle sirens going off. All things considered; I like this garden. It is pretty low key. It is located near a bus stop so you it gets a lot transient traffic. If you are driving here there is metered street parking, commercial lots and commercial garages within a reasonable walking distance.

They have free community events too, such as a poetry reading in honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day. My boyfriend is Puerto Rican so coming here was very special and he read a poem during the event. It was a lovely event with fantastic writers and delicious refreshments. They have stunning murals outside to see too. This is the only museum in the United States dedicated to Puerto Rican art and culture so it's very special. I definitely recommend coming here!

Top notch permanent collection from the 20th century, and excellent rotating exhibits to match. Access the public cafe on the second floor to absorb the interior view, and head up to the third floor and head outside to get a gorgeous view of Chicago's skyline. There is also a member's lounge on the third floor. A giant ramp will allow you to walk/wheel from the third floor over Monroe to the heart of Millenium Park, dropping you off by the Pritzker Pavilion. Its a steep incline - I would not want to walk up it, or push a stroller/wheelchair. If you are in a wheelchair and are athletic, its a thrilling ride to the bottom. Beware of blisters!
