I was born and raised in the western suburbs of Sydney so I grew up on lao/Thai cuisine (also helps…read morethat I'm of Laotian descent!) having moved to Melbourne a few years ago I had a hard time looking for places to offer me my home food. Yim Yams is probably the only restaurant here that is close to or on par with the food I have sorely missed! Flavour explosions meals! This place does get busy so best to book ahead. Or better yet take away if you live nearby. Also I have dined at both Yarraville & ascot vale branches and I prefer Yarraville! Recommended foods from here is definitely the papaya salad (if you're game get the salted crab/preserved egg version), roast duck curry, fried fish with secret sauce, prawn Tom yum and chicken pad sae ew. Oh and get all the sticky rice!

The restaurant was booked out as we were a walk in, yet there was a long shared table in the take away waiting area, so we couldn't sit there and eat, which was very nice looking out the shop front window, watching the people going past. You have to walk past the kitchen to got to the bathroom, the kitchen was busy and clean. No complaints here, loved it

Honestly, this is my favourite Thai food in Melbourne. I really can't fault this place. The food is…read moredelicious, the service is always good, the atmosphere is warm and inviting with nice decor, and they have a great vegan menu in addition to their already extensive regular menu. I've tried nearly everything on the vegan menu, but the Pad See Ew with mock pork is my favourite. The sauce is mild but delicious, the wide flat noodles are yummy, and the mock pork is good (no funny mock-meat aftertaste at all). We also love their peanut sauce and will often get an entree that comes with the peanut sauce (like the Vegan Salad Pak or Tofu Roti Wrap). Portion sizes are pretty good for the money. They also know the difference between vegan and vegetarian, so I trust that the vegan section of their menu truly is vegan -- no sneaky fish sauce or anything like that. You can do eat-in or take-away. The place never seems very busy which is a surprise given how good it is. Everyone we've recommended this place to has loved it and are now repeat customers themselves. Definitely give this place a try if you are craving Thai food and you are westside.

They seem to do a roaring trade in takeaway, so perhaps that's why it's not too busy, but I have no idea why you wouldn't eat in. The fitout is authentic and has very recently been renovated. At under $30 for mains for two people, the price is perfect too. Service is exactly as it is in Thailand... friendly, quiet and helpful. My regular order is a vegetarian green curry (no tofu... lots of vegetables!) and prawn crackers. Delish.
