Office texted to cancel the appointment less than 24 hours notice after I had already taken off to ensure I could attend the appointment. Practitioner also listed available appointment times, however when you read the fine print, it showed that they would be supervising as other therapists worked those sessions after 5pm. Major red flags for me and would not recommend to new patients seeking someone trained in this industry, coming from someone who also works in behavioral health.

As it stands right now, I am truly questioning the authenticity of some of these reviews. I am questioning a lot of things at this point, like why is his availability practically wide open? That should have been the first red flag. But, like I mentioned, I bought into these reviews. For anyone considering putting time and money into this man, consider my experience. Maybe my experience is unique, but, maybe not. So...Despite feeling good enough about things during my initial consultation, I was blown away by what transpired during the actual 'hypnosis' session. I signed up and paid for a two hour session, which, according to Joe, would consist of learning about me and gathering information about me in order to conduct a successful hypnosis. Mind you, I went into the initial consultation wanting smoking cessation hypnosis but, according to Joe's 'expertise', I would benefit more from stress management hypnosis. I trusted him at this point. So back to the first actual hypnosis session. I show up and we exchange pleasantries and start off with some small talk. Ten minutes in and I'm ready and waiting to get down to it. I mean, I'm here to get hypnotized. Joe's bantering, his self indulgent personal stories, and biased, unsolicited medical advice (albeit not being an actual doctor)....all which are completely unrelated to me and my hypnosis....go ON AND ON for THIRTY SEVEN minutes. Joe never noticed me checking out my watch or becoming inpatient with him. Absolutely no insight or awareness concerning the person sitting two feet away from him. In those THIRTY SEVEN minutes, I learned about his nephew, his dislike for Monopoly and the musical chairs game, all his lectures and books and podcasts, HIS journey, etc, etc. Then he starts to give me a lesson about how dopamine acts in the brain....which was completely incorrect. I am not a neuroscientist, but I am a nurse with a BSN, MSN, and years of experience. OH! and I can google DOPAMINE and read two sentences in Wikipedia to discover how dopamine works. Anyway, at this point, I'm ready to LOSE MY MIND. I say Joe, 'sorry to interrupt but what are we doing here?!' He has not asked me one question, not one inquiry into what I'm needing for this hypnosis. He has not explained one thing. I am paying about 250 for this two hour 'hypnosis' so essentially I am paying over 50 bucks for every 30 minutes....which means IM PAYING JOE fifty dollars for him to ramble on about HIMSELF! I tell him I'm disappointed and this is not what I signed up for. He said...and I quote, "OH, so you want hypnotized. I was just about to hypnotize you." And that's when I got up to leave. The experience was completely ABSURD. Of course I want hypnotized. That's what I'm him paying for! He claimed that those 37 minutes were part of the hypnosis. I just laughed. There are tons of hacks out there. The worst hacks are the ones who take advantage of people seeking help. I am desperate to quit smoking. I have tried everything. I came to Joe for help to quit smoking and this is what I got?! This is likely my first and last experience with a hypnotherapist. It was that bad. It was so disappointing. It was truly unbelievable . He said he would refund my money....we will see!! Update: Seeing Joseph's reply, I honestly think he believes what he is saying. Well, Joseph does that too along with giving presentations at hypnotherapy conferences for hypnotherapist professionals. Joseph's specialty is working with diabetics, cigarette smokers, and those in need of weight loss. His publications focus on helping diabetics reclaim their lives even to the point of no longer needing diabetic medications. What I particularly like about Joseph as a hypnotherapist is his patient and thorough manner and his soothingly calm voice. I can't emphasize enough how important is a hypnotherapists voice and soothing manner is as one goes into the deep relaxation required for effective suggestions that will cause the lifestyle changes one desires. Finally, I worked with Joseph on Zoom. I recommend this medium for those at a distance and for those wanting to maintain social distancing during Covid.

The receptionists 1st question was: Do we want him medicated or do we need to have him seen by a therapist? 1st of all, we are not the experts and to medicate a child without diagnosing them would be in my opinion grossly negligent. When we did get an appointment, we were told by the Therapist (S. Clayton) that we could not get an appointment with the psychiatriist because they were booked and we need to call our insurance company and find other options as they could not help. She also told us that she could not help by talking with our child because in all her 20 years of experience (which seems to be none in my opinion) that is a child did not talk on the 1st 2 visits then they were would never open up and talk to them. What about building trust and a relationship with the child. This therapist is not qualified if she gives up and no child would ever trust them. The place was only interested in talking if there were no real problems as they are not equipped and we needed to deal with the issues. She did not want to put herself out there and she in my opinion needs to find a career outside fo the public sector. She also made recommendations to us for services that she could not back up as assiting the patient. When I ask her if these services were able to assist, change behavior, support an overall change in the child, she told she wouldn't know that answer and couldn't answer. So she recommends a service that she has no background data on and doesn't even know the statististics on whether it works and produced results. This is not exclusive of this provider. No one wanted to go above and beyond as they feel these children are out of their realm and they in my opinion don't want to be bothered if there is actual work involved. No one wants to deal with the REAL mental issues and if someone would take the time to actually take and interest in these children and not write them off as a lost cause then we would see a turnaround in their behavior. No teacher, neighbor or even friends want to get involved. Everyone wants to look like a hero but in reality no one wants to be the stand up person if there is nothing in it for there. Don't go this place and if you are only looking to talk about the weather then you are good with these places . Make sure you don't leave in an area that is only concerned about appearances and the good kids.

Unfortunately, after they left the agency, my experience changed significantly. I was going through multiple major life changes at the time, and I voluntarily went to Western Psych for extra support. I informed Persad about this, and shortly afterward, I was told I needed to complete an IOP before returning to outpatient therapy. I repeatedly asked for clarification about the policy that was being applied to my situation and received no response. My portal access was removed without warning, and I wasn't informed that I had been discharged until 11 days later. I did not get a response from Persad until the day after I initially posted this review. The biggest issue was the lack of communication and continuity of care during a difficult time. I have a trauma history that this experience reactivated old memories of that I had forgotten. It was an incredibly difficult time that I do not wish on anyone. I'm grateful for the therapist who helped me, but my experience with the agency itself left me feeling unsupported and unable to trust them with my care going forward. Do better. The LGBT community already has enough trauma to deal with without administrative issues trickling down, affecting the quality of care.

This is an LGBTQ facility that offers drop-in service where homeless and those otherwise in need can shower, rest, do laundry, get a bite to eat and get groceries from our food pantry. Our community side offers a number of programs and events open to the public as well as services for those in need. We also have a mental health division with fully licensed and accredited therapists and psychiatrists.
