Janicka is the reason I have such a deep love and passion for ballet, even as an adult beginner. When I first started ballet I was so nervous and didn't know what to expect, but Janicka creates such a safe space for you to grow in. She is tough with her training and always stays one step ahead of you which constantly pushes you out of your comfort zone, accelerating your growth. Not only is she an incredible teacher in the way that she explains, corrects, and choreographs, but she's also one of the best people I've ever met. Whenever I feel defeated, I know she is always there to help me stand back up. When starting a hobby/passion as intimidating and foreign as ballet, having someone there who you can turn to is so important, and she is absolutely that person for me. Nothing has taught me more about myself than her class, and no one has pushed me the way that Janicka has. I owe so much to her, as a dancer and as a person. My review is a little different than the others (not to say the other's aren't accurate because they are! Ms. Janicka is amazing). I took ballet on a whim at CBD and was blessed to meet Ms. Janicka. I no longer live in the city and I only miss three things about Dallas - one of those things is Ms. Janicka and her classes. Wait, what? "It's a dance class, what's the big deal." No, that's how amazing she is, not only as an instructor but also having her in your corner (it means the world to me that she was rooting for me while I was going through some medical things). Also, she has the best way of telling you you're doing something wrong ("that's cute") and you'll love the splits and pushups/core work after she gave you a good workout at the barre. Whenever I'm back in town I always hope to take one of her classes in person, but so far it hasn't worked out. Janicka changed the way I think about my body. From the first day that I showed up in beginner ballet class, she asked us to show up for ourselves. And that's really hard! But what made it easier was how she showed up for me every time I walked in to the studio. Her classes are TOUGH but she is conscious about where you are in your journey and pays attention to your body and honors any limitations you may have. Her classes empowered me both physically and mentally, and opened the door to me finding the strength to try other new physical activities and incorporate movement into my life. I've been taking classes from Janicka on and off for 6 years. Whenever I get back into her classes on a regular basis, and enter a room full of unknown faces, I am always amazed at how much her presence makes the dancers feel like a united group. The diversity in the room speaks to Janicka's ability to channel empathy, humor and compassion in her teaching style. She has an attention to detail that makes each class feel like a private (the personal call outs help with that too!). On a personal level, ballet helps immensely with my anxiety. I took both ballet series 1 and 2. Janicka helps you establish strong technique so you definitely break a sweat! I've taken beginner ballet with other instructors before, and they usually treat it as just a novelty.
