First good donut I've had in the UK. Haven't tried anything else they make, but if the donut was anything to go on the rest should be good.

Joe's is an old school bakery that sells great breads, pastries and donuts…read more Nowadays you'll find bakeries that look more like restaurants or like a swiss log cabin, but not Joe's! Joe's Bakery is as 90's as you could ever wish for; bread stacked in the window, donuts on glass fronted shelves and a fly zapper stuck to the wall. But, as old school as it is, everything they sell is fantastic! I popped in yesterday for the first time in months and grabbed a cheeky donut and was greeted with a welcoming "alright love" by one of the staff. There's no sitting down and having a coffee and natter here, but you'll have a good chin wag while you order and walk away with some of the best baked good in Bristol. I'm a BIG fan!

They are all made in front of you so you can see for yourself exactly how fresh they are. I usually go for a glazed donut which is priced at £1.45, ok it's a little pricey for a but it's definitely worth it. They have a wide variety of different flavours and a different selection of hot and cold drinks. The hot chocolate is one of the nicest I have had!! I have tried one if their new milkshakes which I personally found too sickly but if you're a chocolate lover then it's right up your street. The shop itself is very clean & modern. A little on the chilly side so make sure you have a jacket. My favourite thing is the drive thru, you can be lazy and not even get out of your car. Winner!

I ordered a chocolate milkshake with a custard filled Doughnut a great combination. The shake was fantastic, very sweet and sickly but I enjoy that in a shake. Lots of chocolate sauce and creme to top it off. The Doughnut was nice to, to many to choose from next time it will be a box of 12 ! You can sit if you want to. You can also see all the Doughnuts on the counter. This place was very clean. Plenty of parking to. Overall a must visit, try the milkshakes I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

I don't know how similar it is to the Canadian original, but I ruddy love a doughnut. Yes it's a bit commercial, yes it goes against my hating of chains, but I love it, (and so did my drunk Dad after pizza one time, as a Tim himself, there's a cracking photo of him looking gleeful posing with a box of Timbits- the fab donut holes) My favourite is hands down the apple fritter doughnut- It is just the amount of cinnamon you want.

Canadians (and some Americans) will no doubt jump for joy when they see their coffee institution in the UK. The oddest thing is that Tim Horton's of Canada (Tim Horton was an ice hockey player) is in the Spar shop. In Canada, I guess it's not the coolest place to go but I care more about the coffee tasting good. And like in Canada, it's cheaper than anywhere else and yet famously, they brew new coffee every 20 minutes which in my mind is pretty fresh. Let's not forget their bagels and doughnut treats too; Over the Atlantic there are many varieties to get addicted to but here in Birmingham, there is still a decent selection. If you go in, let me know if they start doing a 'sour cream glazed' and I'll be back in! This is my regular stop if I'm popping to the central library or running down Broad Street to Cineworld. I find a cup last me just till I get to the cinema door.

Luckily for us marooned locals, Freshly Made Donuts brings the feel of the traditional British seaside to us. Don't be fooled by its name. Yes, the store serves gorgeous smelling and tasting, freshly made donuts, but this is only part of the story as far as I'm concerned. As I approach the stand I can taste the saltiness of the sea, I can hear the bleeps of the arcades and I can even feel sand getting between my toes. The counter is full of those kinds of sweets you weren't even sure they made anymore. Where else could you buy walking sticks and umbrellas stuffed with Smarties when you're a hundred miles or more from the sea in any direction? The sandcastles, sunglasses, and donkey rides don't end there. Freshly Made Donuts also serves cones of vanilla ice cream from Jersey Dairies.
