She is the first one who I feel really listens to me and trusts my knowledge of my own body. She asks extremely helpful questions, and explains exactly what she is thinking and why. She is friendly, kind, approachable, observant, and very intelligent. She also seems interested in complimentary approaches and not necessarily just shoving pills down your throat, though she's perfectly willing to prescribe medicine if necessary. I went in last night and she spent 30-45 minutes talking with me and examining me. No kidding. In most offices you're lucky to get 5 minutes with the actual doctor! When I first met her years ago, I had just survived being a medical experiment in Guatemala (now there's a story!) and was fully fed up with western medicine and its egotistical butchers, and had little faith or patience with its practitioners. On a whim I tried the naturopathic approach and she turned me around 180 degrees with the anti-inflammation dietary approach. Naturopaths know far more about healing systems and dietary effects than traditional doctors. They have "evolved" beyond western medicine. They are also not shy about using other modalities, they go for what really works. Dr. Karen as a practitioner is gentle and wise, patient and incredibly attentive and clear. Kindness just flows from her. She is the first doctor I have ever looked forward to going to see, by far. She has that special je ne sais quoi... I've had a couple of disappointing experiences with Sutter, both resulting in unexpected charges…read more During one visit for my son, the doctor said flu and COVID tests likely weren't necessary, then ran them anyway, without explaining they would be billed as diagnostic rather than preventative. We were charged over $500 for simple tests we didn't ask for and didn't need. In another case, we brought in routine camp health forms for my daughter. The front desk wouldn't accept them without an appointment. During the visit, the doctor confirmed the appointment wasn't actually needed for the forms, yet we were still charged based on minor concerns that came up in conversation. The doctor was kind, but unfortunately, the costs were never clearly explained. Both situations felt like "gotcha" billing... Originally this was a two star review, but I just discovered the bill was sent to collections - we've been waiting for Sutter to respond to my letter appealing the charges.

I went in for a standard physical and ended up being charged $247 for a (20-30 minute) doctor's office visit in addition to the $435 for my preventative health visit. They charged me the $247 because the doctor wrote a prescription for a minor problem I mentioned that took less than 5 minutes. In fact my whole visit including the preventative care portion took less than 20 minutes. After much arguing, Sutter finally reversed this fraudulent bill. My wife and my children have all had similar situations where Sutter significantly overcharged us. Dr. Ram herself is okay, but Sutter Health is a fraudulent organization out to overcharge you. Stay away!
