Of course, if this place is the closest and you have a medical emergency or if you have a surgeon…read morewho is recommended to you who works here then go, but I would choose another hospital if you have the option. Not impressed with the lack of communication between the nursing staff and doctors. The nurses know what's going on, but don't communicate their observations to the doctors. I don't know if that's policy, but it should change. Everyone just reads the doctor's notes and doesn't seem to evaluate the patient and what else is going on. My mother went in for surgery on Tuesday. The nurse was unable to draw blood or insert the IVs due to my mother's small veins. The anesthesiologist inserted both IVs but missed a vein, causing complications following the surgery. My mother's arm was bruised (to be expected) and grossly swollen, oozing blood and fluid and developed blisters. Several nurses noticed this but never mentioned it to any of the doctors. One nurse even commented the IV wasn't in the vein and removed that IV. She was in the hospital 4 days. The day she was released we ended up going to urgent care because we thought her arm looked infected. The urgent care nurse practitioner suggested we go back to the hospital. We ended up going to the Marana satellite office because it was closer. That doctor said he thought she may have a blood clot, but said they did not have an ultrasound machine available on the weekends to look at it, and neither did the La Cholla hospital location. We called the surgeon's office to let them know what was happening. They said the La Cholla hospital did indeed have an ultrasound available, so we ended up going back there. After the ultrasound and waiting for 4 hours without ever being seen by a doctor or nurse to evaluate her arm Melanie came in to discharge us. I said, well, I guess she doesn't have a blood clot. She said, has no one been in here to talk to you, we said no, and asked her to look at my mother's arm. She diagnosed my mother with extravasation. She called a doctor who came in and said she'd evaluated my mother's arm and also, no clot. The doctor had never evaluated my mother's arm, maybe the results of the ultrasound, but had never actually looked at her arm. So that was a flat out lie So thank you Melanie. I do recommend Melanie in outpatient ER. She is amazing and needs to be recognized.

My experience was a complete waste of five months, and I ultimately had to start the entire process over with another physician. At my third and final appointment, Dr. Alster informed me that two critical tests had been lost. These were tests I had specifically inquired about through the patient portal before that appointment, yet the issue was never addressed until I was sitting in his office. Instead of taking responsibility, he attempted to shift the blame onto me. This was not the first time there had been problems with my testing. Throughout my care, testing instructions were unclear and inconsistent, with different staff members providing conflicting information. Appointments were rushed, making it difficult to ask questions, which is why I relied on the patient portal for communication, which was a waste. Dr. Alster struck me as disorganized, unprofessional, and a poor communicator with little bedside manner. Losing critical tests after five months and then blaming the patient is simply unacceptable. Learn from my mistake and look elsewhere.

Technically she knows a lot about the CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) and was able to immediately see how much it helped my husband to learn how what he was eating would affect his blood sugars. A number of years ago I also went to see Dr Alster for my thyroid. I was very happy with his plan that helped calm down my thyroid, and I have a great deal of confidence in this whole practice of doctors / endocrinologists.

I called multiple times a week asking for results and they called me a MONTH. LATER. and told me they lost my swab. They said I need to come back in and get the test redone. This was literally an emergency appointment that I paid out of pocket for and they did less than nothing--this place is a sad excuse for healthcare. Never go here if you care about yourself. Seriously.

Just had my baby here in December 2025. I was very concerned about how things were going to go…read moreconsidering I had a fairly traumatic first birth years ago at a different hospital, but thankfully this experience was absolutely amazing in every way. I came in for high blood pressure, was offered an induction, took the induction and was able to still follow my birth plan which consisted of wanting to stay unmedicated (no epidural or medication based pain management) and no Pitocin. Nurses were absolutely amazing and so kind. Because I was going unmedicated, they offered me the wireless monitor so I could get up and walk around if I wanted to which was a huge plus. I did NOT want to be stuck to a bed and thankfully I didn't have to be. Labor and delivery went smoothly and I was not at any point pushed to accept any interventions I did not want. In the mother-baby unit (I can't remember what they specifically call it), the only complaint I had was we were not told about the "celebration meal" that you can order for your dinner. Wasn't a huge deal anyway because my husband got us sushi and brought it back. Every person on staff were so sweet and helpful. The billing department has a little left to be desired but apparently its common for issues to arise with certain insurances but I'm not the first and surely will not be the last woman to give birth using VA community care insurance so they should know there should be no patient charges. Literally my only issues have come from billing.
