Since my hair requirements are so basic, it should be simple to find a salon and stylist I love. That's not been the case. I've gone through a long list of salons and been really underwhelmed by the talent and shocked by the pricing. I found Brush by stumbling across an Instagram image of a friend's new hair style and it was PERFECTION. I tracked down the salon and stylist info to make my own appointment. I was blown away by the facilities - it wasn't too busy or too loud. It was actually really relaxing. Not only was the salon phenomenal, but so was Madison. She was the first stylist I've seen in years that did an amazing job on my hair - cut and color were both perfect. I've been back since my first appointment and was unable to schedule Madison on short notice. I was a little leery at first, but was extremely happy with the way my hair turned out. I think I've found my new home!

I wanted like a natural balayage type highlights which I don't think this place is very skilled in (highlights I mean) and I basically feel like I just spent over 100 dollars for someone to turn all my hair brown, which I could have done myself for much cheaper. The Pinterest picture is the one I showed her. The other is what she did. Not even close. Honestly, just wanting to be done with the place I just left and didn't say a word about being unhappy but I'm literally in tears as I write this review. I went in initially for a balayage type of highlight on my dark brown hair. I showed Bailey a picture of exactly how I wanted it. I left the salon with half my hair more blonde than the other and with almost white streaky highlights it made me look like I had gray hairs( I'm 26). I told her I wasn't happy and went in a second time to get it fixed. I basically just wanted the other half of my hair to be slightly more blonde to match the other side. Just evened out so my ride side and left side match and just darken my highlights slightly. She basically dyed all my hair back to brown. She toned it so dark that you barely see highlight at all. I could have done that for $5 with a drugstore box of hair color. Again, at this point my hair is so processed I'm leaving it be but I would not suggest this place if you're looking to get highlights done.

I was first offered a 4-week keratin treatment by the stylist Emily. I declined this offer due to feeling uncomfortable with going back to the salon. Next, I asked for a refund of half the appointment cost (due to me having to spend more money on products and hair appointments with a new stylist to fix my extremely damaged/fried hair). The stylist offered me $200-$300 to delete my review. However, when I communicated that I felt a 50% refund ($400) was more fair, they pulled any offer of a refund and alleged that I was "blackmailing" them, even though they were the ones to initiate a monetary offer in exchange for the removal of my review. I came into this appointment fully aware that my hair was in a compromised state due to box dye and a failed attempt at bleaching at home. I communicated this to my stylist, Emily, ahead of time, and was open to any recommendations that would prioritize the health of my hair. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. While I understand that color corrections are challenging, I left the salon with severely fried hair, especially around the front hairline, and a noticeable amount of dye still visible along my scalp. For an $800 service, I expected a far more thoughtful and professional approach to such a sensitive process. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was the stylist's unprofessional behavior. Emily was vaping throughout the appointment and openly criticized other staff members, including another stylist (Heather) and even the salon's owner. This created an awkward and unprofessional environment that added to my discomfort. In addition to all of this, when I went to a different stylist afterwards to try and salvage my hair, they stated that it is "top five most damaged hair they have ever seen from a professional salon". While the color outcome itself isn't my biggest concern, the extreme damage to my hair and the lack of professionalism during the service are unacceptable. I will not be returning and cannot recommend this salon based on my experience.

This salon is so cozy, and as soon as anyone walks in, they are immediately greeted and offered a beverage or snack. The space is so relaxing. Take a look at my photos; who wouldn't want to spend time in this comfortable coastal vibe? And the parking lot has a few spots that are shaded by tall pine trees, which is a huge plus when the summer sun heats things up. Megan has cut and colored my long hair, and I love what she does. Very quality work at a very reasonable rate, which works for me because then I have more money to tip her well because she deserves it. I am looking forward to working with the aesthetician here as well. I don't need hair extensions, but this salon appears to specialize in that, so if in the Surf City area and in need of extensions, start here. First impressions when walking in was that the space was very airy, clean and light. Acoustics are a little loud because the ceilings are high, but you can still have a conversation with your stylist. I got a gorgeous blow out from Catelyn. She started with a very relaxing head massage and used the salon's products from UNITE. She was always checking on the water temperature to make sure that I was comfortable. Oh I was! I wanted to stay under that sink all morning. Catelyn then took me to her station in the middle of the salon and asked how I wanted my hair style. I pointed to another stylist and said that I wanted to try the beach curls. Catelyn used a Dyson blowdryer and curling iron, explaining how I could do the same styling at home. Within 20 minutes, I looked and felt fabulous. My hair had the body I wanted and it was shiny and healthy -looking (no frizz). Catelyn told me that she also does cut & color and I will absolutely go back and ask for her. Do yourself a favor. Book an appointment and check Golden Salon & Dry Bar out. After, you can treat yourself to the lunch/ dinner/cocktails at one of the many restaurants in the center.
