Horrible $305 for an annual check up NOTHING was done - defiant not going back. I had heard bad things but being local was convenient.

Dr. Mark D. Kelley

Dr. Mark D. Kelley

Dr. Kelley is the most kind and giving man I've ever met…read more 30 years ago, he and his wife sponsored my family from Vietnam. They didn't know who we were, but wanted to help. They saved our lives. Despite having 3 kids of their own, they adopted an orphan from Vietnam. And since sponsoring us, they have sponsored 4 other families from Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. I don't know if you all know what a burden it is to sponsor a family. You are physically and finanacially responsible for these people until they can get on their feet. It's easier said than done. Just imaginge a whole family of strangers (who don't speak your language) living with you. They have opened up their hearts and their home for people in need. And for the past 23 years, Dr. Kelley has been traveling to Haiti ( a place in political turmoil) twice a year to work in the local hospital and help with the local orphans. He and his wife will be traveling there next year to also help reform the educational system. What a truly wonderful man! If you live in this area, is there any doubt as to which doctor you should see?

I'm surprised that no one else has reviewed Dr. Kelly. Maybe because us Yelpers tend to be younger…read moreand don't tend to go to doctors that often... but I feel Dr . Kelley needs to be recognized as a great Dr. as well as a humanitarian. It does not surprise me to see what Tu D. wrote about Dr. Kelley, I knew that he went to Haiti twice a year and that he had adopted a child from Vietnam but the sponsorship of families was something I didn't know about, but that really doesn't surprise me.... I've had Dr. Kelly as my PCP for a few years now and have always found him to be an incredibly caring individual who also is a really good, practical, doctor. don't expect a lot of bells and whistles when you go to his office, in fact he will probably complain to you about how the "damn computers" are making his life as a doctor a living hell... Do expect to find someone who will listen to you, treat you as an expert in your own care, and work with you to fix whatever is broken. He doesn't automatically reach for the prescription pad, but may just tell you why your mom was right about chicken soup is good for you when you have a cold and the science behind it.... I would strongly recommend that anyone go to see Dr. Kelley, being a good guy goes a long way in being a good doctor... and he's a great guy.

I would like to start by saying that I & family have been a patient at Aquidneck Medical Center for…read morenearly 20 years. In that time I have recieved good medical care. I came to love my doctor, he savedmy life, literally, twice through his knowledge & keen observation. Recently my doctor dropped me, due to several failures on my part to make appointments. I can't offer solid reasons why I missed appointments, in alll cases, but as a single retired man, recently divorced, I found it difficult to make ends meet & at 55 its not easy to get a new job. Yea, its not easy. So during the past couple years yes my job (new) was priority over my appointments . I did call & reschedule, but those were never pleasent conversations. My last appointment my doctor (H.S.) treated me with distain, crudness, and lack of any compassion. Like he didn't know me. Next, I'm dropped as a patient. Yes, I didn't do my blood work, didn't know iI had an outstanding bill at blood work ? They wouldn't do it. Missed my appointment, yes, new job as manager of local small retail shop, couldn't leave, I'm manager/employee, 5 people. The missed appointments are billed & paid by BC/BS medical insurer. Now I can't find a suitable doctor. Who knows anything about my history. I have an injury, caused by prescribed medication (H.S,.) THAT HAS DEBILITATED ME, severe pain, and has moved me to near incapacitation. I have not taken medication for nearly two years for identified maladies, because I have no doctor. A few weeks ago I spoke with another retired friend, with out this being discussed, he told me voluntarly, exactly the same attitue and drop as patient story (H.S.). I, in disbelief, that a doctor would or could have this capability, capacity, compassion-less rude attitude. Does he know what trauma it is to lose a 25 patient/doctor relationship? NO BECAUSE HE HAS THOUSANDS OF PATIENTS, BUT WE PATIENTS HAVE ONE ONE DOCTOR! That I trusted his decisions, his life altering decisions as a doctor, that he was trusted with my life? Obviously he don't care, Aquidneck Medical Associate s don't care, & still have been unable to plead my position with either. It AMA is flushing old patients out for the new, with no reguard for the consequences on the patient. 25 years gone, no reprieve no discussion. I feel this is an a grevious violatiin of a care givers role. I my argument AMA said, and I quote "...missing appointments effects the Dr. schedule and income..." The doctor is paid a missed apointment fee. Yes, it may perdebate his schedule, but he is paid by me, my life survival day to day, trumps his schedule. I cannot give AMA, a good rateing for customer service or compassion, but all the doctors I have delt with, many there, are knowledgable & professionals. Consider this flaw if you think of being a long term patient of AMA. Its not just Dr. (H.S.) you dropped by the whole AMA! The Hippocratic Oath states the doctor is "for the convenience and advantage of PATIENT". Not the doctors schedule or income. The oath is lost & meaningless in this "doctor by digital" era. Good luck, with your care.

Family Physicians of Newport

Family Physicians of Newport

So I had my first introductory appointment with Family Physicians of Newport (FPoN) which I…read morescheduled a few months ago. Stupidly I forgot to put in my calendar which Primary Care Physician I was scheduled to visit. So when my calendar alerted me that I needed to go to my doctors appointment today I went to the wrong Physician's office. Slightly embarrassing to say the least and the receptionist at the place was far more thorough than she needed to be for my stupidity. However after leaving the wrong Physicians office, I still couldn't for the life of me figure out who I had scheduled with. Now here is where things get a bit odd. I went back to work and after a meeting realized I had a missed call. I called the number back only to get the Newport Hospital. Weird. A few hours later the same number called back. Upon answering a FPoN spokesperson (person did not identify their name), informed me that I had missed my initial appointment w/ them. I was pretty ecstatic because I had been wracking my brain all day to try and figure out who I had booked a doctors appointment w/ 2-3 months ago. I shared my story with this person because I thought it was pretty funny, and they dryly responded w/ "Ok, well I just wanted to tell you, that you missed your appointment and we can't reschedule" I was a bit confused and asked really? Like I can't reschedule ever again in life? To which the person replied yes. I told them that policy seemed a bit draconian (and it is). You make one mistake and miss an appointment and are saddled with the Family Physican's of Newport's version of the death penalty. lol. The dry person on the other end did not see the humor in my comment. It honestly felt like I was talking to someone from the IRS. So I thanked the person for my time and they responded in their weird dry, yet kind, manner and we parted ways. So in short, my experience with FPoN consisted of making an appointment 2-3 mo. ago. Forgetting some details about the appointment. Then receiving the death penalty and not ever being able to be serviced by FPoN. *shrug* I'm sure they are probably nice people but I really can't attest to that. I'm just leaving this review so other people are a bit more diligent about the appointment they schedule and don't suffer my same fate. But hey, if you do, leave a review sharing your story too! :D
