This review is a long time coming. James Thomas takes excellent care of our systems, and I couldn't be more thankful for our technician, Scotty. He was taking care of our home long before we purchased it and clearly knows the system inside and out. My husband and I have owned a number of rental properties over the years in various states, and as a result, we have dealt with various HVAC companies, both for service and maintenance, and these guys are the best, hands down. Even though our system is old (they don't make them like they used to ), Scotty has never tried to tell us it's time to consider replacing our system or sell us silly upgrades, something other companies we have worked would have absolutely done (and have done to us in the past). They also don't call me and try to sell me additional services. James Thomas and Scotty have our business for life! Now I understand why there was a James Thomas magnet with Scotty's name written on it on our fridge when we moved here. read more

I am in need of complete replacement for air unit in Mineral Bluff. I live a long distance from this home and due to the fact that I just inherited it I'm trying to have the work done pretty quickly. The only time I can be on the property to have them look at it is on the weekend due to working daily. However, I was told that there would be a 150.00 + charge to have someone come out on the weekends to just give an estimate to replace it. I have been in contact with 4 other companies, and this one is the only one that is requiring this. Seems to me that being a small town business, they would be understanding. Spring 2026. Billy did our spring semi-annual furnace & air conditioning check up. He cleaned the compressors with coil cleaner and water along with the A-coil. He also removed the old thermostat and put a new one on. Great attitude, friendly and great work. read more

In September we had a lightning strike that took down two seventy five foot tall trees & fried our clothes dryer among other things. The scariest was our A/C went out & brought visions of thousand dollar bills flying away! I called James Thomas Heating & Cooling & they had Scotty, a great tech out that evening about 6:00pm! He quickly diagnosed the problem as a burned out low voltage transformer. He was concerned about the voltage being fed into our home so he checked our breaker box & found that we were being fed 302 volts on the 240 leg, & 153 volts on 120 leg, very dangerous levels of overvoltage. I called the electric company immediately & shared the news & they had a crew out about 9:00pm & found their transformer had been damaged by lightning, but didn't shut down as it should have & they replaced it. Thanks to Scotty finding this issue, he might have saved our house from burning down or worse. He was back the next day, replaced the low voltage transformer in our A/C & it worked! Needless to say, we were thankful we didn't have to replace the 2 year old HVAC system, & more so Scotty going above & beyond & finding the dangerous overvoltage issue. If you ever need help with your HVAC, I highly recommend James Thomas Heating & Cooling. You won't be disappointed!! read more

My blower motor went out in my air handler unit for my home heating and air conditioning. I called James Thomas heating and air conditioning service after hours and they called back at 0800 the next morning and said they would be here between 1000 and 1300 and they showed up on time and David, the service technician diagnosed the problem in a matter of minutes and removed the entire fan unit and had the motor out. He did not have a replacement on his truck but said they had one at the office and he would have it for me the next day. David returned and had the unit back together with a new motor in less than 15 minutes. Every thing works perfectly! Came out within hours of calling and fixed the problem promptly. Had to call them twice in the space of a few weeks. One was a cut wire that caused a short. Tech fixed the wire first before doing the more expensive replace the fan. The other was due to a lightning strike, found the problem fixed it, tested system to make sure there were no other problems. Both repairs did not break the bank so I'm a happy camper. read more

I called them Friday morning and they came out Friday afternoon. The serviceman was very professional, quick and informative. He answered my many questions and put me at ease that the problem had been fixed. A week later and everything is still working great. He replaced the capacitor on my packaged heat pump/air conditioning unit. I would use them again without hesitation. read more

These guys have been out to fix my Mitsubishi system 5 times since 2020. It seems to always have been the same issue and they swore it was fixed all the previous times. On July 27th they came out and stated my flares needed to be redone and the freon had leaked out from there so I paid them $118 for that trip. On July 29th they came out to redo the flares, charge up the system and test the whole house unit for any leaks etc. I paid them $1370 for that visit with most of the cost being the freon. When the tech was filling the freon he did so from the wrong valve, the freon spewed out the top and the tech told my husband the cap would keep the freon in and it was fine. Turns out it wasn't fine because on August 20 they had to come back out because my system stopped working the day before. Turns out the freon leaked out from that valve being broken and now that valve system needs to be replaced. I called their office Monday morning on 8/22 to see if the part could be sent overnight and the office staff told me no, the distributor ships orders as they receive them and only ground; overnight was not an option. We were in a house in the middle of August for 10 days without AC until I had to buy a portable unit. The part finally came in and the office had told me this was under warranty. The tech came out on 8/29 to finally repair the broken valve, late due to an unforeseen emergency, which their office never called to tell me about but I had to call them. He finally fixed the valve, charged the system and presented me with another $900. I was not anticipating that due to being told it was under warranty. We spoke with the owner and argued out point that they broke the part 3 weeks ago and my freon leaked out due to that and I didn't feel the entire bill was my responsibility. Also, when the tech turned the system back on my basement head was not working and needs a new coil sensor. We asked for a copy of the invoice and to discuss it further the next day, it was already 5pm, and James Thomas said no, pay him now in full or I will sue you and put a lien on your house and hung up. The tech was leaving, received a call from the office, the tech went to his truck then got out of his truck and proceeded to pull disconnect to the whole house AC system. Yes, illegally took something that had nothing to do with their repair from my house and left. I have filed a report with the local sheriff's office. read more
