Slightly pricey for pub fare, but great beers and the best burger I've had in a long time.

In the beer options and the choice of food available. Nothing said this is a place for craft beer. Lucky thing that since then, the times have changed. Stomping Ground grew up and learned how to 'Walk this Way.' On my most recent visit, I was flabbergasted to look over the menu. Wow now there are food options that are perfect to compliment their tasty beer. And which beer you may think? That's okay, they have two pre-set paddle choices. One for a beer snob, the other for a beer-beginner. Both provide you with a good introduction to the beers of Stomping Ground. It's always been a great space. It's open, there are shared tables and a high ceiling- giving you those industrial feels. There's also bar side, with even more tables under a glass ceiling- it opens up during summer time and is the place to go and enjoy the beer and the atmosphere. And (if this applies to you) there's a play house area for the kiddies to muck around. The owners are the guys who put on GABS -so they know a thing or two about beer. You should also check out their St. Kilda pub, The Local Taphouse.

Being in Australia...I needed some local beers! I looked on Yelp for a brewery and found this spot…read more I'm so glad that I did! When I walked in I was greeted and asked if I wanted to sit outside or inside. I opted for inside. After being seated I was told to either order off the QR code or go up to the bar. After a look over the menu, I saw that flights were available. This was my best option to try a variety of beers! I walked up the bar to place my order. Elphie (sorry if that's spelled wrong!) helped me. I told her I was from NY and wanted to try the best Australian beers; minus IPAs and sours. I asked her to pick the beers for my flight. She did an amazing job and I loved all of her choices. Each beer was unique and had great flavor. Thank you for your wonderful selection! For food I ordered the cheese plate. While it was delicious and paired well with the beers I realized I should have ordered some "cooked" food so that I could've tried something the kitchen has to offer as I'm sure it would have been delicious. I will absolutely come back here again when I'm on this side of the equator! I highly recommend coming here...Aussie local or not...this is the spot!

The timing was pretty good in that regards, and as it turned out, this brewery was actually pretty good, but that is something that I have come to expect from a lot of these small time breweries. Yeah, the beer selection was really good, and the staff quite pleasant as well. What was even better was that the atmosphere was quite laid back, and it really wasn't all that noisy. This definitely turned out to be one of those places that I really liked.

Typically Australian, I guess, one has to order drinks at the bar and carry back to the table. Likewise, food is ordered at the bar but brought to your table. Menu typically pub like. We had Calimari, a burger and Parma. Now, coming from an Italian area in the US, I had misgivings about Chicken Parm at a Celtic type pub in Australia. I found a large chicken cutlet, breaded and fried, covered with red sauce and Mozzarella cheese to rival any Italo club at home. Oddly though, it came with fries and salad rather than Pasta. But, the portion was so large I didn't miss my ziti. There were three rooms, two with bars, one with pool table plus an upper level I didn't visit. Lots of room. Restrooms were big, multi unit facilities, one for men, one for women. I thought the men's room could have used a scrub down but, I'm old and some things bother me more than others. Three pints and a glass of house wine cost $42.00 AU .which didnt bother this US tourist since I could say it was really 25% less to me and no tip. Our room had live entertainment on this early, Thursday evening...a singer/guitarist playing songs from 50s through 80s. Outdoor seating with gas heaters for chilly nights. I thought it was a fine intro for my first night in Melbourne
