Her hygienist noticed a problem and Dr Rogers confirmed and promptly sent me to a specialist for care. She has completed many dental crowns on me and my wife. Elaine the front office person got me in within 2 hours of calling Donna was my primary dental assistant and she cared for me in a very kind and genuine manner. Dr Pat was GREAT! The initial injections were done with a very experienced touch and he sings along with the radio while working. The whole team is very professional and kind. Although Dana (the other dental assistant) did not work with me she was there to help with my last X-ray and if ever I need another root canal I will not hesitate to call Elaine again. I knew something was wrong when he started by saying "did my assistant tell you what a root canal was?". I thought that a more detailed explanation would come from him seeing the consult cost $100. Nope - just a quick 1 minute explanation. Okay fine. Then they took an x-ray and suddenly I have ice on my teeth and I jumped when he hit my alive teeth. When he came back at me with gauze at the end of a metal clamp I covered my mouth and asked what he was going to do now and in the rudest voice he said "if you don't let me do the test - YOU CAN GET UP AND LEAVE!!!" I was in his chair for only 7 minutes. No, I did not get up right away because I was SO caught off guard by what and how he spoke to me. I tried telling myself maybe something happened at his home this morning? To make matters worse he says what do you want to do?? I'm like, what do you mean? You haven't explained anything to me. Which tooth is worse? Do I really need a root canal on both teeth? At this point it was clear he did not want me as a patient. On my way out I told one of the women what happened and she admitted his behavior was rude and that someone would call me. A short time later I received a voicemail (that I saved) instead of saying sorry, his assistant said he said our personalities are very different, she explained that I am quiet and timid and he has a strong personality and the doctor thinks I'd be more comfortable going to someone else. I'm speechless at this point. I thought doctors took an oath to treat everyone fairly, impartially and without judgement? Needless to say but I don't have to pay for this too. They gave me back my xray. Let me be clear: The girls at the front and doctors assistant are very, very nice. This is all him. What a jerk.

I called Dr. Moody's office where I explained I would be a first time patient and described some brief details about my condition. I provided basic information on the phone and was lucky enough there was a cancellation. I showed up at their office 10 minutes after I hung up the phone. They were expecting me and I was sitting in a dentist chair with an x-ray completed in 5 minutes. While waiting for the x-rays to develop- Christine, the dental hygienist, thoroughly reviewed my options depending on my x-ray results/diagnosis. Unfortunately, with this practice being "General Dentistry", many of my treatment/resolution options could not be performed at this location. She researched my dental insurance and called multiple dentists in the area that offered the treatment options. She also was able to obtain pricing from these other offices. Once my diagnosis was revealed, Dr. Moody and Christine began working on options that they could perform to help ease my pain immediately. They went out of their way at 4PM to ensure I would not go into the weekend with any pain and performed the necessary procedure to relieve it. They provided me with a prescription to treat potential infection, which they called into my local pharmacy and also scheduled my appointment for a root canal at a local dentist. I am so appreciative that they took the time out of their day to treat my symptoms where they could've just sent me away with pain medication prescription and sent me on my way. I'm now able to enjoy the weekend with my kids instead of being all doped up- something both I and my kids appreciate. To be quite honest, this is the first review I have ever done so willingly- whether it be an Amazon review, movie review, or one as such. I am usually too busy to even take the time out of my day to provide feedback. The service and treatment and care I received at Dr. Moody's office warrants a review far superior than I can put into words. I'm winning the weekend with my kids because of this practice's humanity and professionalism.

The building is newish and the inside of the office was freshly renovated and had a nice clean appearance. Even though they gave me the full battery of 'new patient' services I was in & out in around an hour. The hygienist was nice and just as talkative as every other hygienist....even though they have your mouth full of sharp tools they continue to ask questions. I guess they seem to find silence uncomfortable. I wonder if I just brought in a pair of headphones it would save us both the awkwardness of the situation....but i digress. I was amazed that the hygienist remembered my wife's name and made the connection from just the series of vowels that was coming out of my mouth. She had a good memory since it had been easily 6 months since her visit. The dentist was younger than 50 and a very nice guy. He took the time to chat me up and not just dive right in. I liked this place TONS better than the previous dentist I had been seeing for 8 years. I had no problem settling in on making Lakeside dental my new home for dental care. I truly can say my dentist experience is no longer dreaded. I mean we are not going to get carried away and say going to the dentist is enjoyable but it's definitely a huge improvement over my prior experiences. The dentist greeted me on my first visit and asked if I had any concerns giving me his background. The hygienist was friendly and did an amazing job getting the teeth clean. They were efficient but yet detail oriented making sure to use the water pick as I have previously had gum issues. It had been a while since I had been to the dentist, and this freebie made me want to try NDK over anywhere else. I definitely will be a permanent patient at NDK now given the great experience I had there. Don't be fooled by the exterior surroundings- You walk in and the beautiful decor, gourmet coffee and bottled water in the waiting room, and nice relaxing music all make you feel like you're going to the spa for some self-care. The staff at NDK also contribute to that feeling- they're super-friendly, knowledgeable, personable, and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable! The treatment room was pleasant to be in as well- relaxing music and pretty pictures to look at, including on an HD flat-screen. Later, I was able to see the super-high-tech digital x-rays of my own teeth up on the flat screen which was really cool. And Dr. Kim and Vanessa were great about explaining what I was seeing on the images and why they were recommending the treatments they did. The exam and cleaning was really gentle, quick, and expertly-done. And they made sure to check in along the way to make sure I was comfortable. The staff was so nice. I wasn't nervous at all. From the check in to paying my co pay. Everyone was amazing. I made the appointment and was asked if I wanted two appts - one with a consultation and one with the extraction. Well of course I didn't want TWO appts, I just wanted to get it done. I did not get a consultation, but when I asked the receptionist why it would be needed, she said "You know to discuss what is needed for your tooth." Well they had an Xray from another dentist. Seemed a waste of time to me. I told them about the anxiety when I made the appt ("I have extreme anxiety, so I may need addtl support during this"), I told them when I showed up (I have anxiety, I need whatever you can provide to make this easier). I told the nurse. I told the doctor. I told everyone who would listen I needed as much support as they had. Everyone nodded. There was no nitrous, no offer of sedation, no additional support beyond "we can numb you longer" which, bless them, is not really helpful when you have severe anxiety. I cried while they extracted it, but I held very very still while crying, except for the trembling, because my childhood taught me to be still during traumatic moments when I am being hurt. There were no blankets offered, no headphones available, no tvs, no distraction. Nothing at all really. Just me in a freezing cold room having trauma done to me. Does it make it any better that my insurance paid for it? Not really. I like to think Dr Castaneda would have offered nitrous or additional supports if they were available to the practice. I would have paid for any of it, no question - we could have afforded it. So clearly they just...don't? Which is awful, really. Not even one sad faded poster on the ceiling for me to stare at instead of a bright light. We are full time nomads. I saw a gyno in Austin, TX who had nitrous for the anxious. Too bad they didn't offer dental work. Spent the evening sobbing and being held. Thanks for the trauma. Will bring it to my therapist next time we meet. (three stars were for getting the tooth out, I suppose, which needed to happen, but holy crap is this going to take time to process)

Nevertheless, some dentists do a better job of earning your trust than others (after all, few of us are qualified to evaluate an x-ray properly). I trusted this dentist for several years, but after a series of increasingly frustrating dental-care spirals, I decided to leave. The worst kind of dental visit is the one where you're going to the dentist so the dentist can fix his own mistakes. What's worse, my patience with the office staff finally wore out. Their no-nonsense approach might be efficient, but inflexibility does not always make for happy customers.
