Instead he was very nice and wrote down the opening hours for me on a cool postcard. This place has a great collection of everything, especially indie and aussie hip hop. In the rear section is a huge area devoted to World Music, specifically Womad performers. It's a huge range and I'm pretty sure every artist who's every played there is stocked! The prices are really good, around twenty bucks average. The store is full of some really cool artwork on the walls as well. Mr V explained that a local dude who specialises in surf and street themed artwork supplies all the art. Worth checking out for the music and the artwork. One thing that I particularly like is the amount of room around the shop that there is to move; it's always nice having some space! The shop also stocks rare and collectible memorabilia towards the front counter but I was far to occupied looking through the sheer amount of quality vinyl in store. A fantastic range, the service was good and the gentleman was friendly but seemed a bit preoccupied with something else when I came to purchase what I had found. None the less, this was minor and I was extremely happy with what I had walked away with. Another great vinyl store in Adelaide, that stocks a great variety of both secondhand and new records and CD's. Put this shop on your list of 'go to's', there isn't too many around this part of town!

Located along North East road directly in front of a junction, you may not notice it driving past as the build is a dark grey and the white plain font it uses to identify itself is not immediately noticeable if you're driving past. It would really help if they had a sign with a picture of a guitar on it or something just to grab peoples attention from the street because it really is a good place to shop for music gear. Their parking area in the front isn't huge, but I just realized that there is more parking round the back if you drive straight through. Normally I would park in the St Vincent de Paul Society's car park which is larger and right next door (sorry guys). Inside, you will find a space 2 storey's high with the main counter located to the right hand side from what I remember. The staff there are friendly so don't feel intimidated if you're just going in to shop for your first guitar and don't know anything. They will help you out.

Anywho, Holden Hill Music is most definately the muso's music shop. Quality instruments, accessories, sheet music and digital solutions from top to bottom. I have been in, most recently, when shopping for digital editing hardware and they have a good selection, but seem to stock more of the top end equipment rather thant the budget packages. I'm a bit of a cheap ass, so I ended up buying my goods elsewhere, but I am sure I could have sourced something similar there if I mixed and matched a bit! The store also has very strong connections to the music and giging scene, advertising for bands looking for new members and also opportunities for music lessons. Lachie's the new breed of guitar hero and the guys say he knows much more about guitars than someone so young should. Twangcentral love their Martin guitars and like to think of themselves as Adelaide's home of Martins. At any given time they'll have around a dozen or so in stock as well as a couple of used ones. They also sell Vintage Martins but their range includes other brands so long as those brands are American. Good news for sellers too ... if you're looking to sell, they're also looking to buy.

Then the attraction to collect music with some amazing artwork and limited addition books that come with them. Or maybe it is just nostalgia? Records do have a specific sound that you can't replicate well on CD. My partner and I used to buy heaps of CDs. But stopped after a while as they just kept scratching. I have thrown so many away. Do you remember when you where younger ordering and waiting your favourite cassettes and CDs? There was a lot of excitement and anticipation of getting it home and thrashing it on your player. Or maybe you grew up in the vinyl era and you always knew the value of owning a piece of physical musical artwork. Recently my partner and I decided to purchase a record player from a thrift store. Consequently this has developed a lust for vinyl. We have been searching high and dry for good record stores. We came across Rocktherapy simply when driving past. The big record on top of the store is a good flagpole. The store is small, but has some quality and well priced records and CDs stocked. There are a couple of rare and collectables available depending on your taste. I was very happy to find a Grandmaster Funk LP for $10. Got that little gem home for many laughs and dancing around the living room. The gentleman that owns and runs the store is very friendly and helpful. He is happy to have a chat about music and what his store has too offer. I think that stores like this is something that I really missed from when I was growing up. Now with access the Mp3s kids are missing out on that sense of excitement in finding something cool in a record store and owning it's physical form! For my fellow vinylheads, worth a trip to browse!

He patiently answered all of my queries and concerns. Plus it's definitely a kids friendly store as my sons took turns in testing and playing with the iPhone test model with no reservations from the staff. My kids spotted a shelf filled with preloved Xbox games which were going for a song. If you're after sound systems and players, they stock Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony and others here.
