Mr V Music has a fairly decent range of music and it's a pretty cool shop with lots of space and vinyl, cd's and music dvd's & even some cassettes to choose from. Unfortunately for me the overall prices were a bit too pricey, especially in comparison to other record stores in and around Adelaide eg. Clarity Records in the city and in particular Big Star Cd's & Records at Norwood.
I spent approx an hour at Mr V's and looked at every record in the store and soon realised that the prices for both second-hand and new vinyl had too much of a mark-up. Many new & second-hand records that I'm familiar with, I know for a fact that on average you can get them $10-15 cheaper in the other above mentioned stores eg. Brand new Metallica vinyl for $50 at Mr. V & $30 at Big Star...
Interestingly, the whole time I was in the store there was absolutely no music played at all, just a tv with football on. Personally, if no-one is in the store you can have the footy game on full volume but if customers come in I'd mute the sound & resume the tunes! In my 40+ years of life I have to say that this is a first time experience for me as far as music shops go and was definitely not conducive to a cool record store atmosphere.
Overall, Mr V's Music has the potential to be an awesome music shop if only the prices were fairer and it wouldn't hurt to have some tunes playing for the customers for a cool shop vibe. read more
