I am giving 3 stars because the care I received from this group was excellent. However, the issues…read moreI have with them that caused a 2-star reduction are: (1) I (my insurance company) was billed $5200 for Anesthesiology for a simple, 45 minute outpatient surgery. Everything I researched shows this as an outrageous amount to be billed. (2) The bill was split into two identical amounts of $2600...one for the Anesthesiologist and one for the CRNA who assisted. (3) My insurance was billed separately for these two charges, despite being for one procedure, which then created 2 co-pays being billed to me. (4) I called to question and the billing person said that the Doctor & CRNA just "split the charge equally" when the doctor decides to include a CRNA. I questioned the 2 co-pays for one service based on the doctor's desire, and was told that's just how they do it, with no clear reasoning. Does it make sense that a nurse would bill the same as the doctor? (5) I then called my insurance company and reported the double billing, explained the simple outpatient procedure I had and how I felt the charges were excessive, and that their billing practice resulted in me having 2 co-pays instead of one, even though they were from the same medical group, for the same procedure, on the same day. My insurance company notified me that they are now requesting that Valley Anesthesiology resubmit their invoice as one charge, not 2 separate charges and that I should have had only one co-pay as a result. Their billing practices (take a look at the associated group's reviews out of Arizona), seem to border on theft...both to the insurance company, and to the patient. I understand that insurance companies disallow a big portion of the charge and that they have to write off any disallowed amounts from their network insurance providers, but they then try to make double from their patients by charging 2 co-pays for one procedure. I would advise anyone who receives 2 separate Explanation of Benefit (EOB) amounts from their insurance company in regards to this practice to immediately question your insurance company. Had it been on one invoice, and therefore considered on one EOB, I would have been billed $150 co-pay instead of a $300 one. I am hopeful that if enough people report and dispute this deceptive billing practice, that it will stop them from attempting to collect undue copays from their customers. Update: My insurance company contacted me and verified that there should have only been one charge and one co-pay. This practice is most definitely extorting 2 co-pays from their patients when a CRNA assists. I received the updated Explanation of Benefits from my insurance company and my responsible amount is $150, not $300. Deceptive billing practices, bordering on insurance fraud....although it isn't the insurance company being defrauded, it's the patient. If you get 2 co-pays, immediately contact your insurance company and question it.

They charged for double anesthesia on one case. Insurance only will pay one bill. I've been to Valley View Surgery Center a few times now, and this was my second visit with Dr…read more Hijazi for (both times) carpal tunnel release. The intake process was super fast and easy. I completed everything online and then followed up with a phone call. The person I spoke with was professional, friendly, and efficient. The whole process took less than five minutes, which I really appreciated. On the day of surgery, the waiting room was very busy. From what I understand, surgery days tend to be packed since many doctors are not in office that day, so that was expected. Check in itself was easy, but the woman at window one came across as a bit demanding and not very friendly. Her tone felt rushed and not very professional, which was a little off putting. After check in, the wait was over 20 minutes. Once I was called back and taken to the bays, everything moved along quickly. You're required to have an IV connected as a precaution. I changed into a gown with booties and a hat, and the prep process was smooth. Dr. Hijazi came in, marked my arm, explained everything clearly, and administered the local anesthesia. The facility itself was clean and well maintained. Aside from the initial check in experience, the rest of the staff were very kind, helpful, and reassuring. When I was taken to the back, Dr. Hijazi's surgical team was amazing. They worked well together and made the environment feel calm and comfortable. I even asked if I could watch the procedure. While I couldn't see as much detail as the doctor could, it was still a cool and interesting experience. The entire team made it a positive one. Overall, despite a longer wait and a less than warm front desk interaction, my experience was very good. Dr. Hijazi and his crew were fantastic, the procedure went smoothly, and I left feeling well cared for. I would definitely return and recommend this surgery center, especially for Dr. Hijazi and his team.

Their website needs improvement as far as patients are concerned. I went round and round but did not find anything concise that directed me where to go. That part was lacking. It needs to be simpler to navigate. And I am quite tech savvy. I got to the check in window and paid my insurance co-pay, and the woman at the desk asked me if I completed my patient portal via the text link which I never received at all after giving her my phone number once again. Nothing. However, I was able to provide the necessary information, and managed to get myself checked in. I DO agree with previous reviews, when my Husband and I got there, the waiting room was FULL to capacity. There were people sniffling and coughing which caused us some concerns. We caught Covid prior in another hospital waiting room. It was nerve wracking. I wish people in tiny waiting areas such as this would be required to wear a mask to prevent germ transmission of any sort, especially during Flu Season. Germs can cling to skin and clothing, and other surfaces while waiting to go in. If ever I have ANY future procedures done at this facility, I will book the first time slot of the day. I got called back to the surgical triage area and was tended to fairly promptly. Each staff member who tended me pleasantly introduced themselves to me and asked me if I had any questions. First was the nurse who inserted my I.V. line who was friendly and did it with ease without much discomfort on the first try. Second, the attending nurse came in and introduced herself and also asked if I had any questions. Thirdly, was the Anesthesiologist who came in and introduced himself, and saw that I was extremely anxious and nervous pre-procedure. He reached out and grabbed my hand and assured me that I was in good hands. I can't thank him enough for extending that kindness and care that you don't often find in the medical industry. He was TOP NOTCH! What a nice man! Compassion goes a LONG way. Commendable. I wish I remembered his name. I was extremely anxious. The most negative aspect of my procedural visit to VVSC was the level of volume and noise in the triage areas and desks outside by curtained bed. The nurses were loudly chit-chatting about skin care, and products, and some were on their cell phones in front the curtained prep area, and you could hear ALL their personal conversations with other co-workers right in front of you. One was casually sitting on a gurney in front of my triage bed while talking away to another female behind the desk. This was unnerving, because I feel conversations like this should be reserved for the break room. The back-and-forth conversation levels were surprisingly loud. Causing nervous, anxious patients being made to hear every detail. Laughing and giggling is fine for the appropriate time and place, but not in front of patients. I feel that they could have been much quieter and more respectful of that. I did not expect so much boisterous frivolity in a surgical prepping area. I just wanted to comment on that, and hope that management kindly reminds staff that there are patients there for serious, and potentially life-altering surgeries that need a calm space to try and decompress or meditate prior to what's being done to them. Quietly please. Not everyone wants to hear what you did the night prior. You know? Lastly, my Doctor V. Gandotra did my procedure, and he was reassuring from start to finish. He is the absolute nicest Doctor of Gastroenterology that I have ever known and is the GOLD standard of his field. I don't know what my results, or outcome will be, but it has been made better by knowing I am in his hands. A++ doctor. As long as my recovery goes smoothly, and I didn't catch the flu there, I will be relatively satisfied.
