Getting to interact with the otters up close was such a unique and special experience, and the staff made it even better. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the animals and making sure guests had a great experience. I would 100% recommend the otter experience to anyone visiting the area. It was worth the trip and something we'll be talking about for a long time! My only tiny disappointment was finding out afterward that they were offering a discount for Oceans Calling attendees. I definitely wish we had known about that before we went, but it is what it is--and it certainly didn't take away from how incredible the experience was. If you're considering visiting Coastal Wilds, DO IT--especially the otter experience! Absolutely unforgettable!

I only gave 2 out of 5 stars because for the price of general admission it was seriously lacking…read more $70 for my husband and I, plus 2 kids, and it was a stretch to have enough to look at for an hour. Facilities were subpar, a lot of animals were housed together, and altogether a lacking experience. If we had paid $65 each for a guided tour, I would not have been happy. And an extra $15-$30 for an animal encounter on top of admission is pretty ridiculous. Even $300 to swim with the otters is a lot. I gave 2 stars instead of just 1 because they do, in fact, have animals.

The Salisbury Zoo is such a cute, fun, (and free!) way to spend an afternoon…read more They have bears, a white peacock named peekaboo (who is not albino contrary to popular belief), flamingos, macaws, otters and much more. Overall pretty small, but totally packs a punch for a community zoo that runs on a donations only basis. We learned that Peekaboo the white peacock, loves to show off to guests wearing bright colors, because the female peacock that they have on the grounds, doesn't like him, hahaha. What a shame, he's so pretty! We also learned that Peekaboo thinks that he's prettiest from the back (ayeeeee) so if he's shaking his tail feathers at you, he must really think you're fineeeeeee. Too funny.

Smaller zoo, but lots of interesting animals that seemed well cared for. As 2 adults we budgeted…read moreabout 30-45mins for it and managed to just beat the rain. They were working on one small section, but it didn't disrupt too much. It doesn't matter which entrance you start at - there's not much of a hill, and there is park to walk in on either side of the zoo as well. The only animals we didn't see were the Spectacled Owl, Lynx, Prairie Dog, some of the monkeys, Ocelot, and Fox Squirrel. Everything else was out and mostly awake. My favorites were the Burrowing Owl, Peccary, and Flamingos. I've never been that close to a flamingo before and they sounded like geese! We'll definitely stop in again whenever we're in the area. (an EV charger nearby would be perfect!)

Wow. Just wow. I am so glad that we brought our bikes on this trip. We're staying over in Dewey…read moreBeach so we biked over to this trail having no clue what to expect and having never stayed down here before. These trails are super nice and very easy to Bike. It was an absolute joy. I would've recommend this to anyone. Even the trails that were rocky that go outback through the woods we did on a street bike no problem. They seem to be very well-maintained trails. At one point you had the super long bridge that goes over a swampy area, which is really cool too. On the way up on the trail, we saw a turtle crossing the trail on the way back. We saw but I assume is the same turtle taking a hole with his back legs. I don't know why I spent my whole life going to the Jersey shore. You drive an extra hour. You could come down here and have a super nice beach that's not packed and the super nice trails that you can bicycle too.

First, it's dog-friendly which is a huge plus (be sure your dog is leashed at all times). Second, this is a lovely trail for hiking a couple miles, but it's not covered by trees, so perhaps it's better for a cloudy day. Third, you'll get a view of sand dunes, wetlands, and a pond (if you're lucky, a heron will come into view). This is a delightful trail for a relaxing walk - and a haven for joggers, dog walkers, and photographers. I think the Gordons Pond Trail is one of the crown jewels in Cape Henlopen State Park.
