Doctor McLaughlin instantly put me at ease when I met him at an inpatient unit. Whenever I have a question or concern, he gets right back to me - usually the same day! He will take the time to listen to me, and make sure he understands what I'm saying. Then he also gives me info, and makes sure I understand the plan. I very much appreciate the fact that he works with me. If I feel something isn't right with my meds, he'll let me experiment within a range and let him know what works. He won't just write a script because I ask, but if he believes it's appropriate he'll do it. He even takes the time to get to know me personally; when I go for a follow-up (sometimes several months later) he will ask me about stuff that I told him I was going to do. He remembers my interests, and treats me like a person, not just a mental disorder.

My experience here is the standard by which I measure the entire system now and my distrust of it. Let's just say you will get through the gauntlet of cold and money-ready receptionists to get medication thrown at you within five minutes, then have all your thoughts shot down. The doctor was always late and there was always a very uncomfortable feeling just being in that lobby - because it was a horrible place where I never felt respected as an individual or as a client. One time, my doctor was gone for the day and I had to see the other doctor for some reason. I brought some ideas and he immediately shot them down to recommend some horrible diagnosis that clearly is not true, given that the disease (CDD) would have killed me by now if it was. He did not know me, but he felt comfortable just throwing this out there and not explaining it. Awful. They don't care about what they do to people. This is on top of my regular doctor recommending her diagnoses. One time, I had to do an ADD test. The tester said I didn't have it, but that didn't stop her from pushing it. Other than that, there was no explanation of why anything was done or how things were supposed to change. You are just there to pay money and get drugs. You wait 30 minutes for a late doctor to give you drugs after five minutes. Then, she threatened to have me imprisoned because I wouldn't answer a dumb question she asked... at that point, I was fed up and knew I was done with this place, so I started laughing at her question, which she did not take kindly too. Whatever. These people weren't listening, anyway. Do no harm? I no longer believe psychiatry is capable of that. I have had enough bad experiences, but this is by far the worst. This place sucked then and it looks like it still sucks now, so don't risk your sanity here. I regret it to this day.

Their video conference software for the $350, one-hour psych intake appt failed, and we ended up doing that call by phone. Dr. Molina was in a huge rush to get off that call--even though it should have been an hour--that it was disconcerting for us. He hung up after half an hour, leaving a lot our questions unasked and unanswered. The followup appointment was supposed to be in person. We drove 45 minutes to get there, only to learn that Dr. Molina had cancelled his in-person appts for the day, and no one had bothered to notify us. We had even scheduled it further out than desired so it could be in person, if I remember correctly. In the end, they sat us in a grubby office with an old laptop, and we did the appointment that way. On top of which, Dr. Molina's medication recommendations were neither useful nor evidence-based. Would not recommend. There are psychiatrists out there who are in it for the people and (not just) the money--find one of them.

Once I said something to someone they're like there's no air in your room the staff on the floor I was on did not listen to me. It has a private practice feel to it, unlike some of the larger counseling centers, that make you feel more like a number and not patient.
