I explained it was pretty bad and requested an appointment ASAP.Two days later I got an appointment with Dr. Kent Marangi. His office is located in a group of commercial buildings off of Crown Valley Pkwy. near Mission Hospital. There is plenty of parking and office staff gave specific directions to help locate their office. There are a number of specialist doctors, so the large waiting room is often busy. One of Dr. Marangi's assistants reviewed my information and I was taken to get X-Rays of my knee. Later, Dr. Marangi came in and examined me. He informed me that I needed an MRI to determine exactly what was damaged because my knee was seriously injured. There is an imaging center located in a separate building for an MRI. I was also given a prescription for Physical Therapy. I made a follow-up appt.with Dr. Marangi to go over the MRI results which showed that I had ruptured my ACL and torn my meniscus. Throughout the process Dr. Marangi explained my options and what to expect with each option. He did not push me into any specific option. Dr. Marangi is very professional and personable. After considering my options, I decided to have Dr. Marangi operate on my knee to replace the ACL and repair my meniscus. The surgical center for this orthopedic group is conveniently located in the same commercial center. Dr. Marangi's staff (Virginia: scheduling and Jennifer: Physicians Asst.) were amazing. They scheduled me, fitted me for a brace and ordered pre-op tests for the surgery. I had the surgery on April 10th. Dr. Marangi and his team took great care of me and it's amazing how fast I am healing. I have been back twice for follow up appts. His office staff are polite, professional and knowledgable. They are great at making sure everything post surgery is progressing normally. I have been able to walk with my brace (locked) and crutches since day one. I have not had significant pain (I stayed ahead of pain) and within days I was only on OTC pain and inflammation meds. I started Physical Therapy 10 days after my surgery and I am on the road to recovery. I highly recommend Dr. Marangi.

My goal was to regain 100% range of motion so I could resume my normal activities including my exercise regimen comprising dumbbells and chinning bar. I had spoken to a neighbor older than me who had a torn rotator cuff repaired and could not reach up much above her shoulder. That was not for me. I knew that young people and sports people required 100% restoration while old people probably did not care as much. My research of Dr. Labovitch revealed that he was a sports medicine physician. Sports people with an injury don't want to have any limitations after treatment, so that was the best sign that Dr. Labovitch was the orthopedic surgeon for me. When I went to his office, I gained my ultimate confidence when his waiting room was filled mostly with young people. My surgery was successful, and although it took a bit (maybe 9 months) of expected rehab effort on my part, done partly at home, I regained 100% range of motion, and my arm and shoulder felt no different from the way it was before my accident. I had several subsequent visits to Dr. Labovitch for different issues, and each time his diagnosis was perfect and my recovery complete and uneventful. When requiring PT I always went to California Rehabilitation & Sports Therapy at 36 Mauchly in Irvine, run by Anthony Bisaccia, who is very competent, has a great team, and is wonderful to work with.

The technician that did the X Ray was a young woman who did not give me a lead protection cover for my body. I asked her if I needed one and she said "No, you used to need one, but these days the machines are more advanced". But I chose to ask for one anyway. I just wanted to post this review because I don't think what I was told was correct. So the office manager should make sure their staff is protecting their patients during every X Ray. This is why I gave only a 2 Star rating. But they are good and Dr Labovitch is knowledgeable and nice.

Notably, my meniscal tests during the physical exam were negative. However, during the follow-up, the surgeon focused completely on a horizontal meniscal tear identified on the MRI--a finding that is usually degenerative and often incidental or asymptomatic in nature. Omitted Information: Other relevant MRI findings were not disclosed. After requesting a copy of the MRI report myself, I learned there was also a semimembranosus (hamstring) tendon tear. This issue is not treated surgically, yet it aligned perfectly with the PA's initial clinical assessment. This lack of disclosure regarding alternative explanations left me feeling that the focus was more on scheduling a procedure than on fully exploring the correct diagnosis. I would strongly encourage others to review their imaging reports personally and obtain a second opinion before proceeding with surgery.

That surgeon did not do knee replacements, but was able to tell me I needed a total knee replacement. When I started to look around for a new orthopedic surgeon, I ruled some out as they were difficult to contact and I was not impressed by their appointment system. I ended up seeing Dr. Lin because not only are his credentials impeccable, but his staff is extremely responsive - they answer calls within 1-3 rings, they are extremely easy to deal with, setting appointments and answering questions quickly and responsively, they helped set me up with paperwork to take to AAA for a disabled placard, and they are just overall a really friendly bunch. I had a Mako assisted robotic total knee replacement on Friday last week and the doctor called me the next day (I wasn't expecting a call on the weekend and it was wonderful and reassuring to hear from him the dat after this major surgery). He has done an excellent job making me feel taken care of, from my initial visit when I was anxious and crying about having surgery; to some things I wanted to try before I was ready to leap into surgery (hyaluronic acid shots, and PRP shots); and, when it seemed surgery was the only answer to my issues, sending me to prehab PT to get my body as ready for surgery as possible. The whole process has made me feel I am in excellent hands. Thank you, Dr. Lin and staff!

Choosing Dr. Burdi was one of the best decisions I made. He is a highly knowledgeable and skilled orthopedic surgeon, and I trusted him from the start. What I didn't fully expect was how challenging the first three weeks of recovery would be. It was tough, but I also understood that this wasn't going to be an easy process. Healing takes time, patience, and commitment. Now, three months post-surgery, I can honestly say I feel pretty good. The pain is completely gone--I actually felt relief right from the beginning. Now it's more about healing from the surgery itself and staying consistent with PT. My advice to anyone considering this surgery: be patient and follow your doctor's instructions closely and lots of ice! Recovery is a journey. While you can do quite a bit after three months, it's important to remember that full healing can take six months to a year, especially when it comes to avoiding bending, twisting, or lifting heavy items. I'm so grateful to Dr. Burdi and for his skills. While nerve pain in the beginning is difficult to manage , I had no nerve damage! After 3 weeks the sciatica pain feeling went fully away! His staff is wonderful too. Pat and Taylor!! They do all the behind the scenes!!
