My mom and I came to try the beef patties. She decided to order jerk chicken and I also got stew chicken. They didn't have beef patties, so I got chicken. It was obviously curry chicken because once I bit into it, it was definitely spicy. I enjoyed it still. Also, when I opened my plate I had oxtails and not stew chicken. That was okay too because I really did want to try the oxtails. The service was good. The young man who helped us was very direct and straight to the point about our order and what was and was not available. The food area was very clean and so was the rest of the front area. There isn't a place to sit in here, so you will be doing carry-out. The parking garage lot is small. The entire building is attached/connected to a gas station convenience store. There is a lot of traffic in and out of here. Be careful if you pull straight into a spot and are trying to back out. I really like the jerk chicken. It has a different style of taste in comparison with many of the other jerk chicken cuisines I have tasted. I don't like Spicy food yet the jerk chicken was slightly spicy with a barbecue taste. I ordered food here on a Sunday around 2ish. There were no other customers when I arrived. It made me think twice about staying. I should have followed my first thought. The girl who took my order was nice. First order- small jerk chicken. It did not taste like jerk, like chicken with sauce. The outside of the chicken was dry, like it had been left over or under heat lights for too long. Second order-large stewed chicken. Let's just say I've had way better. Jeezas have mercy! As my grandmother would say...I had the oxtails and I am so very disappointed. This is in no way a Jamaican oxtail. There was nowhere to start, the whole thing was bad: thick brown gravy, too sweet, fatty. I can honesty say it's not the worst I have had, that was in Tokyo at a place that said they were a Jamaican Restaurant and the food was terrible, but this comes in a close runner up on my worst list. i've been to several "authentic" Jamaican spots recently. Jamaican Kitchen is as good, if not better than the highly touted places around town! had the oxtails, cabbage and rice w/peas. tender, flavorful and plentiful. that's a GREAT trifecta! Jamaican Kitchen also stocks "Ting" and Sorrel in the beverage case. a VERY pleasant surprise! for most folks around Atlanta, coming to Jamaican Kitchen will take more than a notion, but if you're in the Lithonia area, and have a taste for the food, it's WELL worth a "stop & cop", but note that the restaurant on Dekalb Medical Parkway, off the corner of Covington Hwy, otherwise you'll never find it! Great food...Stew beef is one of my favorite dishes from this particular Jamaican restaurant and of course you know u get plenty food.... and make sure u ask for extra gravy . To save yourself some time, call ahead and it will be hot and ready when you get there. Oh my Gawd, No they Didn't... they didn't just serve me Curry goat with Cabbage and White rice in a Styrofoam container that tastes better than any food I had in that Jamaican resort "Hedonism II" when I was there 4 years and 25 Lbs. ago! Well, I guess the buffet at Hedonism II is not Jamaican Cuisine....anyways (No, I was not completely nakkit, I was staying on the "prude " Side). Well, Yes they did! And they did me right, son! So I was working in Lithonia and had a hunger from here to Eternity so I drove down looking for something Ethnic! I pulled into a strip center which has a Gas Station, a barber, etc... and this little joint is in there. Is a walk up styled restaurant. Has 4 tables, a cooler, and makes you feel like you are in Jamaica because the Air Conditioning is not flowing! Who cares. I order the small (Thank God, because there is plenty for 2)... and for less than $8 bucks I am feasting in a heap of Curry Goat, White rice and a side of boiled cabbage with peas and carrots. To compliment my Caribbean experience, I took off my sweater and ate in my tank top, while sipping on Orange Faygo (Caffeine Free)....and enjoying intelligible Reggae tunes.sounding like a Jamican Salt N Peppa..... The yelp reviews led me here for lunch and I am so happy they did! Ordered the Shrimp Curry to discover that it is made to order so you have to wait a bit, but it was worth every minute. I ordered the Curry chicken. The curry was very blah and boney. The rice and peas was all rice and 3 peas. The cabbage was bland and there was no plantain available. I stopped in for a take out order. There was only one cashier/server because it's a small place. No big deal, right? Her attitude was rude. I was put off by her lack of interest. I ordered rice and beans, to go. The rice was dry as were the beans. The beans were so dry, they were shriveled, which indicates the food was cooked very early in the morning or the day before. Totally gross. Either way we had to wash each bite down with a drink. To top it off, the food lacked seasoning. A like salt goes a long way. After a few bites, we both threw the food away. It was a total waste of money and food. If the food was good, I could look past the cleanliness of this establishment. The place is old and the floors and decor resemble that. The place needs the floors to be stripped and waxed and new paint on the walls. Decluttering of the wires and tv boxes need to be doing as well. read more
