I recently went to Jalena's for the first time, and was so impressed by the entire experience. First, the customer service was so genuine and exceptional. I had no wait and I got a wash, blow and curl, and was pleased with how my hair turned out. The prices are more than reasonable and the products smell delightful. Also, it's a very inviting and clean environment. So glad, I found this gem. I will now be a regular. read more

Let me start with saying I absolutely adore My Caribbean sisters when it comes to hair. I've always gone to a Dominican Hair Salons, because they just know! I just moved to the area and was in desperate need for a good cut to bring back my curl pattern. My last cut was not so good, so needless to say I was super happy to find Jalena's via Yelp, and being only 13 minutes from me, win win!!! They take walk ins and there is metered parking in the front. I went on a Tuesday, and found a spot right in front. The place is neat and comfy. They only take cash, but they do have an ATM in the back. I had stopped in The previous Saturday to get a feel for the place and they were very busy. I asked for the curl expert because I have really fine curly hair which can get frizzy, and if not cut properly look awkward. I was guided to Elizabeth and so finally on Tuesday, today, I got to see her to fix this mess lol. The salon was pretty empty which I liked, and they get you in the shampoo chair as soon as you get in. This was one of THE best shampoos I have gotten, albeit a bit rough, but it sure gets all that product residue out. Their products smell AMAZING!!! This day I got the perk of a free heat deep conditioner, which I welcomed happily. They were a bit short staffed so that was the perk and I didn't mind waiting. This hair needed some love! While I was under the dryer I saw Evelyn work on some people and she is efficient and knows what to do with all hair types. I watched her put in some extensions and they were flawless. I was excited to be next! She asked me what I needed and I explained my last hair cut wasn't layered enough. She went in, worked her magic and immediately I felt my curls bounce back! Just with a good cut! She asked me first the length prior to cutting and I was happy with her suggestion. I had to get back to work so I didn't have time for a blow out, but she put some product in my hair, clipped it up and stuck me under the dryer so the curls can have some form. All I can say is GRACIAS BELLA!!! She was efficient, attentive, sweet, and knowledgeable!! I have a wedding to go in a few weeks and most certainly will be back to get it styled. I am so happy to have found Jalena's, just look at my smile! Best part rates are reasonable!! Go, wait if you must, but so worth it! Happy hair days!! read more

Jalena's - Finally got some curl back!!! - Hair Salons Near Me - East Lansdowne, Pennsylvania

Like others have stated, this is more my come to than my regular jaunt, but mainly because they don't take appts -at least as I can tell- and the amount of heat used. But if I want a quick, efficient blow out, trim and curl? I get up early and head over as they do get busy. I always arrive before opening and have never had to wait on them to open past their opening time, but I most often go on Fri or Sat which are the $$ days so that might be it ‍. It's Dominican so Spanish is spoken (duh) which doesn't bother me; people clearly understand me and I them when we converse in English. The prices have gone up a bit over the past year, but it is still affordable and I've always received courteous service. I can't speak to any other of their services, but I do recommend for blow out, trim, and curl. read more

Ive been coming to this establishment on and off for the past 10 years. I only have Nora do my hair. Super amazing and pleasant. However, I can't say the same for the owner Janet. I attempted to get my hair done. Arrived at 8:46 in enough time to bc they open at 9am. The shampooer showed up at 9:04 on foot. Nora showed up at 9:20. With neither of these individuals having access to the building. A maintenance worker showed as well to talk with Nora. He too was waiting to get inside to starti a job. When I spoke to Nora she said she had to wait for the owner Janet. I called several times and left a voicemail at 9:18 expressing the latency of the establishment. Well Janet the owner finally arrives at 9:32 unprofessional and from what it appeared she looked like she just rolled out of bed. I spoke to her nicely and began Expressing my concerns and requested for some form of discount for the poor service. Janet would never answer me, instead she kept prompting me to sign in and follower her to sit. She was very rude and condescending making comments as if my frustration was about the money, and at that moment I decided that this small business will not get any more of my time and money. It's unfortunate that Nora has to suffer amongst this unprofessionalism bc apparently she's late often. read more

Liars dropped my teen off for a rinse color. The owner say she have enough blue to do her blonde patch. When I pick her up (ran to ShopRite) she said blue which is dark didn't take on some parts of the blonde, yea right. Never again! read more

Quick and easy service especially in a pinch. There was a time I went every two weeks but I went natural. Going natural helped my hair to grow back. Like I said Jalena's is a quickie not as a maintenance stylist. They do condition your hair a cut it but that's just about it. Only expect the minimum! There are specials on slower days like Monday and Sunday. Again the convenience of being open 7 days a week. However the prices have increased at a fast pace so make sure you go when there is a special. The salon is clean and organized. However not many of the stylists do not speak English so you have to use Google translate or wait for the receptionist. The stylists are generally on the phone laughing and talking loudly. If a stylist brings their child that can be added drama the crying and loud cursing in Spanish. But in all it's worth it and I'll go again. read more

I've been to this location before. And it was great. But I was just here earlier this week and they weren't open on time. I wants to get my hair done before work and unfortunately I wasted my morning and gas driving here. And have to wait until they open! Needless to say I am very disappointed. read more

I went for a blow dry and curl and they put a texturizer in my hair without my consent. They put it in the conditioner. If you love your curl pattern please DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. THE OWNER HAS DENIED IT ON ANOTHER REVIEW. There are several people who have said the same thing happened to them. So I guess we are all wrong read more

If I could give no stars I would do that. for starters when they blow dry your hair to straighten it, they burn you all up and then when you flinch, they laugh and say sorry. I've been to another Dominican shop and when they blow dried my hair straight I did not get burnt not once. Despite all the pain I still came back but they are very unprofessional and rude. I just called this morning in regards to a service I wanted to know if they offered and the girl blatantly hung up in my ear. I will never step foot into this unprofessional establishment again. I will also be reporting you to my job at BBB. Be careful who you disrespect! read more

I visited Philly and my friend brought me here to her Dominican Salon. Let's just say that I was in and out of here. And my hair was SUPER straight and I LOVED it!!! I think the fact that I didn't get under the hair dryer attributed to me getting done sooo quickly. I can't lie, at first I was a bit skeptical. I'm used to my hair being rolled, then going under the hair dryer, then getting blow dried (I know you're thinking d*mn that's a lot of heat). This was different I was washed blow dried (with the hand dryer), and then my hair was flat ironed viola, all done!!! I had body and it was silky and shiny!!! I want to say that I only paid $25-$30 (can't remember cause this was like 2 yrs ago). No need to fret, those of you that want to visit cause I just called and their still in business!!! I do remember there being a slight language barrier but not much because some of the women spoke English very well. give it a try when you wanna take that Afro from puffy to flowy!!! read more

Jalena's is one of the nicer Dominican salons. Now that I no longer work in the area I'm going to miss coming here. So much so that I may actually go out of my way to return. Here's why... AVAILABILITY: Literally every time I've been here there's no sitting around, coming back, need for appointment, etc to be serviced. I come in, sign in and begin to get washed within 5 minutes. Can't beat that with a stick. PRODUCTS: I'm not exactly sure of what they use (in nondescript bottles) but their shampoo/conditioner smells FABULOUS. I always really feel like I've gotten an extremely thorough cleaning and their shampoo girl gives a great (albeit rather rough) scalp massage. If you're way into smell goods like me this would be a plus. SERVICE: Quick and to the point. Perfect. Let them know what you want (i.e pin curls, blow-out, set) and its done. If heat is a major factor for you, unlike other salons where I felt my hair was being tugged and pulled and scalp set on fire - every stylist here is rather gentle and does not overdo it on the heat via blow dryer or flat iron. This shop gives me blow outs that have the longest longevity (3+ weeks) than ANY salon I've been to. Some things to note: While I believe their Facebook page states they accept cards, they do NOT accept credit/debit cards. Instead, they have an ATM in the back of their establishment that charges a small fee ($2?). They also provide a wide range of services ranging from coloring to sew-ins. I've seen various services done while I was there and everything appears to be very high quality. Like most salons, they offer a discount day (I believe Mondays/Tuesdays - call to confirm) where blowout is $25. I've also paid regular price in which I believe I leave $40 (including tip). This is one place where I'm not really stressed about making a discount day because their services are truly worth paying full price. Yes, there's the typical loud Spanish chit-chat, but let's be honest there just seems to be no way around that at ANY Dominican Salon. Once again, I cannot reiterate how FAST they are here. That is major for me as I am not one of those girls that just loves sitting in the salon all day waiting to be serviced. I find that little pieces of my soul may possibly die while I sit around with wet hair plopped in a plastic cap fake watching some Telemundo show I don't understand. In the past, I've literally gotten here, got my hair washed, blown out and pressed and made it back to work within my hour lunch break. While I don't recommend putting strain on your hair with consistent heat, Jalena's makes it worth it because the style will last with care (wrapping or pin curling at night). More bang for your buck will always be a win! read more

I started coming here again a few months ago when my regular salon closed. They still do a good job and overall I'm happy with the results BUT if you're waiting to get your hair done by Elizabeth she's never there when they open at 9 so plan on waiting at least an hour if you have an appointment with her. I'm seriously thinking about looking for another salon in the area where I can get my hair done early without ALWAYS having to wait around. Also they talk WAAAAY too much and too loud the entire time I'm there. read more

If you are looking for a TOP NOTCH dominican hair salon just like how ATL and NYC do it. This is the spot they know how to treat, handle Caribbean/Dominican and African American hair. They start with deep wash/conditioning treatment, then proceed to the hair rollers for under the dryers to finish off straightening with hair blower and hot iron to set in. This lengthy process is what a true dominican blowout!!!! is all about without a doubt will last you a week. Hair conditioning and styling is about taking the time and extra TLC to nourish and care for your hair. Love this spot!!! So upset I found out about it now and not sooner. They really really know how to do hair. You will be satisfied. I heard a customer talking about how excellent and inexpensive they also do hair extensions and tracks. Excellent stylish techniques I promise you won't be dissapointed. read more

I am very picky about my hair salons. Yet, I liked this place. Service was stellar for a Dominican salon. The place was very family oriented and the service was quick. My hair was bouncy and great. However, they charged me $40 for a blow-out. That's a little on the steep side for just a blow-out. read more

They do an amazing blowout. My hair was so soft and shiny. The prices are reasonable. No appointment necessary. Walk in. Fast service.

I've been coming here for years (when they first open a block down the street). Elizabeth is the Truth! 2 years ago my hair was cut in a Mohawk style now, it's at the middle of my back (even, soft and bone straight). I'm on my 6th year and, couldn't be happier (no perm). My daughter now comes here on Mondays because it's only cost $25 dollars to get her hair done. read more

I been going to them since they opened up 10 + years. All the girls are very nice its clean and you are in and out. What I love the most is that Jenise does my hair and she treats my hair also. She bleached my hair on several occasions and my hair have never broke off or fell out. And the prices are reasonable. The salon is always nice and clean. They always make you feel comfortable!!! read more

Best wash ever. I feel like my scalp can breath. I think it's a little pricy $40 then not including tip. I feel like $40 would have been worth it if they used a round brush but it wasn't. It was a paddle then flat iron. The end result was great. I would differently go back for just the wash! Amazing wash. read more
