My friend and I went to celebrate our birthday and what was to be a happy occasion turned into never again. When we arrived the hostess asked how many, no smile, no effort to make us feel welcome. Red flag alert but we continued. It went down hill from there. The waitress was awful! Never stop to ask if we needed anything. Had to flag her down, food was overcooked to the point that I took it ALL home. When I mention to Pera that I was missing something she left and didn't come back, and when she did she had the check and I needed a box as my food was no longer hot to go along with it being terrible. My friend didn't fare any better. read more

This was my 2nd visit and I knew I had to leave a review this time because the food and service was absolutely amazing. I had a platter with carnitas, shrimp, steak and chicken With rice and beans for under 20. The meat was so tender and carnitas just fell apart on my fork. This is definitely my favorite restaurant in the area hands down! read more

Seems like everyone either loves it or hates it & it makes total sense!! I loved it but now hate it. The first time I ever went there, it was fantastic! The food was delicious (had chicken enchiladas) and the waiter we had was freaking awesome, attentive & personable. But two weeks later we went back and it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had! The food wasn't as good as before but our waitress was just horrid. We had to ask for her almost every time we needed something b/c she never checked to see how we were. Finally, when the bill came I saw I was charged $1 for the insanely tiny cup of sour cream I got. Now of course, $1 in the grand scheme of things isn't crazy but it was the principle! First, she should've told me there would be an extra charge (it's no where on the menu!) and the amount I got for $1 was a true ripoff (less than a tablespoon). I voiced my concern but she just shrugged, so I asked for the manager. Would you believe he was a complete jerk about the whole thing?! He made it seem as if I was the dummy for NOT expecting a charge, then insisted that I might have been offended if the waitress told me that the sour cream would be an extra charge. He went out of his way to argue with me about a $1 charge, refusing to see it from my viewpoint. Would it have bankrupted the restaurant to remove it and let me know next time I'll be charged?! He basically ended the conversation with something like, well that's the way it is and I'm not taking it off your bill. So much for trying to please your customers! I left a message for the owner so I could tell him how horrendously I was treated, but never heard back. I tell everyone I know what happened and urge them to take their money to a place that will want you to return. I will never walk through those doors again. read more

Manager was rude, and argumentative... 'Told me to tell my friends and family never to come back to the restaurant'... No problem, the manager is the worst part of this establishment, and it actually shows... There food and service use to be awesome, but has declined drastically... Not only that but the manager is prejudice, and a very nasty person... The last time I had an issue with this restaurant I didn't say anything because everybody else was nice, and despite him being prejudice, confrontational, and completely lacking customer service skills I still enjoyed the food... That won't ever happen again... And now, I'm telling you FRIENDS AND FAMILY not to waste your money there... The owners need to step in and get that guy out, because the restaurant has declined at a steady rate over the years... I will not go back, and I will be letting everyone know to do the same... I wish I could give 0 stars because that's exactly what they deserve after that encounter... read more

Strawberry Margaritas were the best and only $5 on a Saturday, I ordered the Shrimp Cocktail ($10.99) and the Monterrey platter ( $17.99 grilled chicken, carne asada, carnitas, shrimp and rice & beans and tortillas on the side ). I have to say this is now my favorite Mexican restaurant. More than enough food and prices are great. Our server was nice and very polite. Will be coming back for more drinks and to try something new on the menu. read more

Last weekend, we had a server we had named Brian. He was a sweetheart. Very good server!!! There was a guy in a red shirt walking around, i think maybe he was a manager. He needs to be trained to smile at customers and make them feel a bit more welcomed. He looked mad the whole night. Someone should slip him a drink here and there. read more

Came for the first time & it was decent food. Not fantastic but pretty good Mexican food. I was disappointed the most with our waiter. We waited numerous times for him to come back to attend to us. There were 3 of us & the table next to us had 6..they got there about 25 minutes after us & got their food before us! Not to mention I got 3 different margaritas & they were all pretty weak. On a positive note, their spinch queso blanco dip is fantastic! May return one day eventually. read more

I always enjoy this place. Big menu. Good margaritas, esp at happy hour. The food is American Mexican...but good.

Visited Sunday night for a couple of beers and appetizers. After initially being greeted warmly at the bar, the service turned cold after three guests who appeared to be friends arrived. After that, we were ignored. The bartender walked past my empty beer numerous times. At one point, a "friend" customer called her a whore and she retorted that she'd been called worse by a bigger bitch. After a couple of f-bombs by the same man, she reminded him that it was a family establishment. Given that there are newer and numerous restaurants in this area, Jalapeno's really needs to step up their game in terms of service and decor. The kind of treatment we received makes me never want to patronize this establishment ever again. read more

Service is decent, but the food is good. The cheese dip appetizer is excellent, and they have great lunch specials. Service is slow, but friendly. Restaurant is clean read more

We have been going to Jalapenos for years, and it has usually been a good experience, but tonight was a disappointment. I ordered my favorite, the seafood enchiladas, and they were not up to par. The enchiladas are usually chock full of shrimp, as well as basa. Tonight there were only 2 shrimp in the enchilada. The dish was served with the wrong sides: I got Spanish rice and refried beans instead of the white rice and fruit listed on the menu (which I have had previously and enjoy). The waitress did bring me the white rice after I asked for it, but she never asked if our food was okay, and there was no one at the front desk when we left; otherwise, I would have complained in person. Really bummed about my dinner tonight. :( read more

Jalapenos is the best Mexican Food in the area. Ranked for authentic ambiance and service. The Burrito Jalisco is the biggest burrito with everything in it!! A bit expensive for a burrito but who cares! read more

The food was ok but the services wasn't good. They only had one waitress out there serving and she was slow and had a attitude from the moment she came to the table. My friend ordered a Margarita and she never brought it out but charged her for it on the bill. The food was god but the service sucked. The chips and salsa was excellent. read more

Best jalapeno poppers around. Not breaded and deep fried, just beautiful big jalapenos stuffed with cheese and grilled. GREAT. Chicken tacos are good too. Margaritas good. Staff very friendly. read more

Service was excellent if only rating that this would be a 5 star review. Had the lunch special with 2 chicken tacos. It came out correct and extremely fast. I went in for the lunch special pick 2 items that come with rice and refried beans along with your choice of side salad or tortilla soup for $5.99 very good deal. Now a similar deal $7.49 that's a whopping 25% increase and to add insult to injury you can add the side salad or soup for another $1.00 making this former $5.99 special $8.49 that's a 42% increase. I understand prices go up but that much at once? I guess they need to pay for their recent remodel. although I have no idea what is different about the place. The food was average I would give it 3 stars and the value was no longer great nor good just overpriced so value 2 stars. Service 5 stars food 3 stars value 2 stars hence the 3 star rating. You can go across the street to Old Country Buffet and get has much as you want to eat including a make your own taco bar for a similar price and if you are a vet on Monday you can eat lunch at the Old Country Buffet for the $5.99. Maybe support a local chef and check out Reuben's Mexican Grill for lunch 2 tacos with rice or beans only $6.20. read more

Are you kidding??? I almost couldn't get in because they didn't like the brand of my T-shirt??? Checked my shirt tag???? The food's not that good, the service sucks, it's not high class but they act like it is??? Eek! Medefinitlythinks not!! read more

My brother lives right down the street and anytime I make it back home from Arizona we usually have at least one lunch there. It's not bad or good. Based on his recommendation I got the Bistec Ranchero the last time, which was actually really nice. Previously I had tried a couple burritos. Again, nothing special. Tastes like anywhere else with a lot more cheese. As others have stated, the service is terrible. Especially during the day. You pretty much just point, nod and hope. read more

Went there on Thursday night for a drink and dinner. The service was fine and the margaritas were ok. My daughter experienced a severe case of suspected food poisoning later in the evening and was up all night. She had the carne asada, so I'm guessing they have some issues in the kitchen. Not a pleasant after experience... read more

it's unfortunate that everytime i've been here it's been a strange twist of slow service, subpar food, and somebody really obnoxious within a earshot. i guess i really can't be disappointed anymore since i've been serially disappointed in the past. read more

This was my first dining experience here. I have been here during the "club" hours but not for dining. My friend and I wanted to eat somewhere with a patio so we chose to come here. We were immediately seated in the patio but it took 5 minutes for us to be acknowledged by our server #39 on receipt There were a total of 10 tables in the entire place. When she finally arrived she wasn't pleasant at all there wasn't any "Hi! How are you doing today?" or any greeting at all. She just said are you ready and that's it. We ordered our meal and asked about their craft beer selection which she said they had none and walked away. We wanted to order a drink and waited another 5 mins but she never returned to the table. My friend went inside to ask the bartender a question and saw the server just sitting at a table talking not doing anything. My friend said she wanted to order a drink and the server said she would be outside but took another 5 minutes and when she would drop anything off she would immediately turn and leave not allowing us to ask for refills, sour cream, or hot sauce. It generally takes a lot to make me mad since I have worked in the service industry for over 10 years but the server didn't even say "Thank You" when we paid her. The only reason I gave this place 2 stars was because the hostesses were very nice and welcoming. One even said goodbye as she was leaving for the day. I unfortunately will not be returning here ever. I love patio dining but can't stand being neglected and having a ride server. It would have been nice if a manager was in sight or even was seeing how the guests were. It seemed as if it is being ran to only care about the club part and not the restaurant aspect which is a shame. read more

The atmosphere is probably the best atmosphere I have ever experienced for a Mexican restaurant. The food is a great price for the quantity, and almost everything I have tried has been very good. We go there frequently and will continue to! If 4.5 stars was an option; I would give them a 4.5 rating. read more

Went there yesterday because we live within walking distance of the establishment, and wanted to get a little "over-served". Started off with two of the Margarita specials (Blue Iguanas), and then the waitress disappeared. In fact, the next time we saw our actual waitress was after we finished our meal. She asked if we wanted more drinks, and I said I want a "Peach' margarita. She came back with another Blue Iguana-which wasn't a big deal, until we got the bill and saw we got charged for a Peach Margarita. When I brought it to the attention of our waitress, she insisted that it was a Peach margarita (despite the margarita being a green color, when peach margaritas are PEACH in color). I just wanted the $3 difference taken off my bill, which she seemed unwilling to do. She did ask if she could have the drink remade. I said that was fine (I repeat, I just wanted a $3 refund), and when she returned, the drink was 100% peach margarita mix. No alcohol whatsoever. Admittedly, this is the absolute worst service we've had at this establishment, and it will be a LONG time before we return. This area has a plethora of delicious Mexican cuisine, and the only thing that made you our preferred restaurant was location. read more

this place is great for dinner or drinks or both! very good margaritas! tacos enchiladas queso salsa all delicious! one of our main go to

I do have to say that the Carne Asada is delish, but, the staff need a little coaching on customer service. Not friendly, and almost down right rude! Plus they don't even know what a top shelf margarita is. Any good Mexican restaurant knows that Grand Marnier is what makes a top shelf margarita just that...a top shelf margarita. It's not an add on. They charged me $21 for a single margarita. Wow, do you think you're at Trump Tower? Get with the program and learn how to bartend. El Salto can teach you a few things about making Margarita's. Best in town! $9.25 for a "top shelf" 27oz margarita. Now that's worth the visit. I won't be back at Jalapenos'. read more

Haven't been to recently and visited about month ago. I can't believe the prices in this place! Mexican food is not supposed to be this expensive for G's sake! It was like $70 bucks for 2 adults/2kids. I'd rather get take-out from El-Amigo in Schererville for $25. Food is okay but defnitely not worth it in today's economy. read more

defiantly some of the best Mexican food in the area. large restaurant and bar. if im craving hot and spicy this is where I go!

I'm from the Dallas/Fort Worth area and was in town to celebrate a family event. My group of eleven went to Jalapenos on Monday, June 6 around 7pm. It was slow, we were seated immediately. As with any large group it took a while to peruse the vast menu and make a decision. The wait staff was courteous but I couldn't say they were outstanding. However each person at the table ordered a different item from the menu and each person was very satisfied. I ordered the Sonora Chicken and loved it. read more

I was so disappointed. The service was good, even though we had to wait quite a long time for our lunch to be served. Although the food looked appetizing, it just didn't deliver.Took one bite and just asked for a to go container. It just wasn't very good. Would have rather gone to Taco Bell. : -( The other two in my party were underwhelmed also. The music was much too loud for a Sunday lunch - won't go back. read more

Horrible service, brought my wrong order and the manager did nothing. This is Tex mex not Mexican.

I have always loved this place. I lived in Chicago and had access to the best Mexican food at the drop of a dime. After we moved to Indiana it was hard to find a good place. Then I came across Jalapeños...the food is phenomenal. It's like a Lalo's in terms of music, atmosphere, and Margaritas, BUT BETTER FOOD!!! I have always loved this place but last weekend I fell in love even more. I called he restaurant and asked if I could have my wedding reception Here in one week on their busiest night of the week. Alex agreed and I booked immediately. Omg!!!! My wedding night was amazing!!! They provided amazing service to all 27 people. Food came out in perfect timing and there was so much food. My guests were amazed and sooooo full. No drink was left empty, no request forgotten. It was truly truly amazing!!! Sooooo happy I went with the reception here. We all had an amazing time. Thank you soooooo much Alex!!! read more

Better than runnin' for the border and about as good as Pepe's (but more expensive). They have good guacamole, but everything else is just ok. The food came out very fast which makes me think they are just microwaving everything. Better to go to El Rancho Grande (much better bang for the buck - fresh, quality, and authentic). Del Rio Grill in Schererville and El Salto in Munster are both better than this, but they don't even beat ERG! read more

Pretty good food and a nice atmosphere. Been a while since I've been but will go back when I'm in the mood for good Mexican food.

My boyfriend nor I will be visiting again any time soon. We've been here twice maybe the past 3 months. The first time we walked in & were greeted very rude by a server & hostess, they made us stand there for maybe a few minutes looking at us before we were sat. By the time we we're say there was no reason it should have taken so long because it was dead. & coming from someone who is a server I know of somebody is off shift they can transfer their table to the closer. It took a great while before we were finally greeted by our server. His service was horrible. Once we got our food & were eating we were never once asked by our server how our food was or anything. My boyfriend was sitting with an empty soda while our server walks past us & can clearly see cause we see him glance at us. It took us to stop him on one of his passings to ask for a refill. Our service there was basically drink order, food order, bill then he collected the money. Our second time which was just the other day it was even worse! Our server sees us as we got sat but he's sitting in the booth behind us talking to another co worker or his table. Then as about 10 minutes goes by he says I didn't see you guys in sorry. Okay, understandable I guess. You get carried away in conversation. Cool. Understandable. We never got his name nor told us specials. But every table after us that came in he tells the specials to. What made us any different?! As well as our previous experience we were not checked on to see if everything was tasting okay or anything. But once again my boyfriend is sitting with an empty cup 1/2 into our meal, & once again we had to stop our server to ask for a refill. Then he returns ten minutes later with his drink. When we go to pay for our bill he charger is correctly. But later on as I check my bank account I was charged not only my bill but as well as another charge for $68! I call & the manager tells me that it was comped off. Once again I'm a server, I understand that happens. But I at least have the decency to tell my tables my mistake. I was never aware what he did or received a voided receipt for it off my card. He just gave us our bill & that was it. & as soon as we stood up he took the checkbook. Now I'm again going from my reference as a server but you don't do that. You wait until your table is gone before grabbing the check book or take it if they hand it to you. Then he never said thank you. Or anything. Maybe that's just me. I don't expect perfect service but I don't expect bad service either. I ask to be checked on at least once twice tops. Just from these two experiences I will no longer be going to this place if it's my choice. read more

Horrible! The food was horrible , the wait time was horrible and the prices were horrible. Totally not worth it. The rice was hard and not cooked all the way. Do not order the flautas. They were made with a bean paste with a little chicken inside. The kid meal was all from freezer. Not very hot. No sauce was offered. Too high priced for what you got. NEVER will ever go back. read more

I love, love, love this place! I typically order the chicken tacos, enchiladas, or fajita quesadillas, and they are always consistently good. The chips and salsa are always fresh and yummy. Great food but with a high price! The service was good and the waitress was nice but not in our face. I'm not the kinda guy who gets suckered into atmosphere but they worked hard to try and provide a true Mexican atmosphere.. Didn't help the Bears win though. read more

Excellent food, great margaritas, and lots of local craft beers. We have been here twice in two weeks. The male servers are extremely attentive; the older female does more of a stop and drop, but the bus boys made up for it. They have lost my business!!! My husband walked in on a Friday evening to purchase a Togo order and they were rude!
