I started going to Jalapeños in 2001 when I went to UK and it's just as amazing now as it was then. The queso is just thick enough and so good with those warm tortilla chips. My husband and I have always been a fan of the enchiladas and can't find anything as good where we live in northern Kentucky. My son is now a fan too and loves the tacos Al carbon. Almost $22 for shrimp, chicken and steak fajitas....and for 2 people not enough so had to buy 2...$44 total. And this dinky bag of chips. I've gotten more food from Chuy's and a huge bag of chips from Chuy's (and that was through delivery as well, or even pick up). Also, everything tastes like it was store bought...like none of it was actually fresh. The salsa, is gross. Overall my experience here was just fine - the restaurant was pretty clean, the food was decent, and the service was excellent. They did offer free chips & salsa right away, but the salsa wasn't my favorite - I found it to be a little too sweet and not spicy or acidic enough for my taste. I ordered a Jalapeño margarita but I also found that to be too sweet and a little syrupy. I was hoping to taste some fresh lime juice but that definitely wasn't present in any of the margaritas. My partner and I split the fajitas combo platter with steak and chicken as our meat options. I'm not exaggerating when I say that the fajitas came out within 5 minutes of ordering - even the waiter was taken aback by how quickly it was ready. That was already a red flag to me since I know that quantity and cut of meat cannot be cooked fresh in that amount of time! The steak was a little overdone, but it was marinated nicely so it still tasted flavorful. The chicken was fine, and the onions & peppers were perhaps a little soggy, but overall the combination of ingredients and the quantity of food was good! I'm on the lookout for my new go-to Mexican restaurant, but unfortunately this isn't it. With new restrictions in place, we were looking for a patio to shake off the quarantine rust. Jalapenos has a great setup right out front. While you are sitting on a sidewalk facing a parking lot you don't know it. The plants, window art, and music mask where you really are. Service was excellent and the food was tasty. We discovered Jalapeños thirty years ago and at that time it was hands down the best Mexican restaurant in Lexington. Absolutely authentic, amazing food and consistent quality. We moved to the northern part of the state 25 years ago, but were able to enjoy a location there for several years until it closed. We missed it and could never find a suitable replacement. Now, decades later, we're still visiting the remaining location and enjoying the same great food, friendly atmosphere and service, and the same amazing authentic recipes as at the beginning. When i went as a kid, i was enamoured by the whimsical, vibrant decor and hand-painted chairs. The same decorations still make me smile. The atmosphere alone might make it my fave Mexican spot in town. I've been countless times and the servers are always lovely. In my experience, the food arrives at the table with perfect timing. I ordered the burrito/taco combo and the chicken soup. Chicken soup was pretty bland. The burrito didn't have much in it to make it a burrito. The burrito meat was good but the beans and rice were so dry. I wish it came with sour cream. The salsa was delicious and I was surprised my meal came with a nice sized salsa container. Chips were amazing. The taco was disappointing for me because I was expecting a soft shell, but it was a hard corn shell. I can't stand corn tortillas, so I ate the inside of the taco. read more

I ate here for years and the Fajitas were a family favorite. Sadly the last six or seven times I was in were disappointing. The last visit was the last I'll make, ever. They brought out my fajitas in about 45 seconds. Cold and cooked with hardly any veggies and a sad, gray piece of meat. Not inspired at all. When I asked for some cooked in the more traditional method - to the table sizzling in peppers and onions - they seemed really upset. So, the next thing they bring out was volcano hot - we went from 100 degrees to 1,000 degrees and everything burned to charcoal in 10 seconds. Solid TexMex! I got a beef chimichanga to-go, which came with queso, lettuce, salsa, and sour cream on top with sides of rice, beans, and an order of chips and salsa. Chips and salsa were good, but the rice was a bit lack luster. The chimichanga was really good; the shredded beef inside was flavorful and moist. It was a good amount of food for the $10. I'd say this place is a solid 3.5 stars based on the food alone, but I'll have to eat in sometime to see how the service stacks up! read more

This is one of the newer of the three local Jalapeño locations. They have the same menu from what I remember from visit to visit. I didn't memorize the menu or anything, they just seemed the same. Like the other location that I frequent on New Circle Rd., the food is excellent. I've never had an issue not liking anything that I order. Usually I stick to the fajitas or the nachos. Theirs are both tasty and filling. The times that I've been to this location was during dinner and the service and the time that it took to get the food wasn't as fast at this location... Maybe the New Circle is faster because I always go during lunch time. Who knows, I just like the other location better. read more
