History
Established in 1980.
The History of Jake’s Corner: From Hardt Ranch to a Beloved Landmark
Originally known as Hardt Ranch, Jake’s Corner has a rich history dating back to 1916. It all began with Annie Hardt, who set up a modest vegetable stand at the corner for stagecoaches traveling the route between Payson and Globe. The stand provided travelers with fresh produce and a safe place to pause as they waited for the Salt River to recede. Payments were left in a collection box, operating on an honor system that reflected the spirit of the times.
In 1924, the first store was built, creating a more permanent stop for travelers. By 1946, the property was sold and renamed Jake’s Corner, solidifying its place as a historic and cherished landmark. Over the years, it has continued to serve as a gathering point for adventurers and locals alike, preserving its legacy of hospitality and resilience.
