A good watering hole for the craft beer or whisky enthusiast. Although they do market themselves as a cigar bar, there is a separate non-smoking section which tends to be less crowded. This establishment grew out of a head shop which opened around 1999 or so. Upon the clamp down on the sale of paraphernalia by John Ashcroft's Justice Department they grew more towards being a cigar shop. Then after offering off sale liquor, evolved into a full service bar. Today they have the most extensive whisky selection in Lincoln and a superb selection of craft beer. The clientele is the 21 to 35 crowd, so depending on your stylistic sensibilities, you may not feel in place. Personally, I've grown to like the atmosphere and their knowledgeable, attentive staff. I wish I still smoked regularly! This is a chill little place, not only a good cigar bar but also a good place to meet interesting people. I used to buy my Djarum Black clove cigars here (yes, I'm an ex-Hipster) because it was the only place close by that sold them. I quit smoking, but every once in a blue moon, if I'm out with friends, I'll stop in and get a nice Acid or Arturo Fuente. I also used to get my pipe tobacco here; their selection's alright. The only thing is if you're looking to actually buy a pipe, I wouldn't get them here. You can find one just as good online for literally half to two-thirds the price, shipping included. They have like the most eclectic alcohol collection I've ever seen. They've got a couple freezers of your standard canned and bottled beer, plus some 40's of malt liquor, but then they've also got a bunch you've never heard of before. Same thing with the wine rack. There's a lot of choices, but they're all unknowns. I started just deciding what to drink based on how cool the label was. However, one of the cool dudes who works there recommended this wine that came in a carton. I was immediately reminded of Franzia (and the accompanying Tour de Franzia), so I was reluctant, but he highly recommended it so I said what the hell, sure. Oddly enough, it was damn good! I can't remember what it's called, but it comes in a yellow 1L carton and they're in a stand right next to the wine rack. Great place to grab a smoke and a drink with some friends. read more

Very good beer and whiskey selection. Nice atmosphere, I don't smoke cigars but the ventilation was enough that it was pleasantly smokey/enjoyable without being overbearing. The cigars are stored in a beautiful walk in humidor, and they have matches and everything you'll need to get going. read more

Great mixed drinks, whiskey and beer selection, and cigars. Old Fashioneds and Bloody Marys are the best, but bar tenders can make solid drinks on only a preferred alcohol and basic description of what you want it to taste like....and they don't over charge! $5 to $6 for well made cocktails, none of that $10-$12 garbage you pay at other places. They do have a ventilation system and weather permits they open the doors, but it still gets pretty smoky in there. That being said, Jake's is a great place to get a unique beer on tap that you can't get elsewhere in Nebraska, and they also have a very extensive whiskey list along with lots of cocktails. Jake's has three sections: non-smoking bar, smoking bar, and cigar shop. I always hang out in the non-smoking bar and there's always a variety of new beer to try, which is great. Prices are decent, too. Smoking bar seems to have a wider selection of stuff, but you can always grab a drink and enjoy it in the non-smoking section if you're really feeling something offered there. Ambiance is pretty hipster/dive-y, but it's pretty entertaining to play count-the-beanie when it's full. Everyone is pretty friendly, too. Sometimes there are cute dogs. Cigar part, though I don't smoke, is my favorite. I once was crossing the street nearby late at night with a friend when she mentioned she wanted a swisher, so I naturally raced to Jake's to buy her one (I may have had a bit to drink that night). I tried to buy just one, though I had no cash, and the cashier was kind enough to give it to me on the house. I came back frequently afterwards for legitimate purchases. What a fantastic beer selection, and I am told it rotates. I'm not that fond of the smoke, but at least it ain't cigarette smoke. I must say, though, pace Anastasia's review, that there are far too many hipsters in the joint. Here's a hint, gentlemen: When you're all wearing the same shirts, pants, hats, beards, and ear plugs, you're not nonconformist any more. On the plus side, the brahs are nowhere to be seen, which is nice, and there were a few real nonconformists to be seen, which is nicer. Awesomest bar/cigar lounge in Lincoln. Hands down a good place for smoking. Even cooler, you can bring your own smokes. They trendy and crowded and busy but this is not the sort of place you come to when in a rush anyway. Bartenders are working hard and super friendly/good conversations but the place is always packed so be prepared to wait for a table or service. Wide selection of smokes and drinks. Sometimes full of hipsters, but a place with no hipsters is not as awesome as it thinks it is, so you'll have to deal. A scotch and cigar collection to please Ron Swanson himself. I have been here twice now and enjoy it more and more each visit. Great beer, including casks, read: Huge Scotch selection, and cigars that you can purchase and smoke in-house. Jake's has an interesting feel when you walk in the P Street door side. At first I thought I was walking into a mini-mart with a bar attached until I realized that they weren't selling butterfingers and big gulps, but cigars and other specialty smoking items. I'm not a smoker myself, though I can be talked into an occasional cigar or clove, so this instantly made it a little more intriguing. Walking over to the bar side for the first time, I fully realized I'd stumbled upon something unique. The decor screams whiskey lovers hang-out. Barrels, dim lighting, lots of bar tops then seating away from the crowd too, and enough Scotch options to cover an entire wall. There is a great feel that is enhanced by loud yet decent music selections that I imagine anyone who frequents a bar like this would enjoy. During my latest visit, I was not in the mood for anything too intense having already had my fill at Yia-Yia's and the Bourbon Theatre so I chose the Lagunitas cask beer that they had available. I'm hit and miss on cask beers from what I have discovered and this one, to me, was a miss, but I love that Jake's can feature different cask beers to try! Definitely adds distinction to a bar that really doesn't need anything else to make it an original in this area of the country. So, while the crowd seemed a bit hipstery, but honestly what can you expect with how cool this place is, this is a bar where anyone that I want to be friends with can have a good time. It's a tad on the loud side but not in a bad way, and if the bartenders are busy I have found that they can't answer too many questions so bring a cell to look up what some of the menu items are so that you can narrow down your questions before asking. Whether you're from Lincoln or just visiting, Jake's needs to be on your list! It's the perfect place to end an evening out on the town, and is by far one of the most original bars I've been to since living in Europe. Have fun! read more

Jakes Cigars is my go to spot, by far my favorite Bar in Lincoln. The staff here is fantastic, great bartenders, very knowledgable and hard workers. The atmosphere at jakes is great, it's usually like a big group of friends, and if you don't know somebody, this is a place where you can go sit with anyone and chat, everyone I've ever met that goes to jakes is very nice! There is never a lack of options to choose from when you want a drink, great selection of rotating craft beers, enough spirits to make you almost anything you want, and a large selection of Cigars. Props to the great people that run this bar, Johnny, Myles, Cassi, Olivia, Tyler, Benny, Toni, Morgan, and everyone behind the scenes. Jake's is absolutely the best little bar in Lincoln. They have a fantastic, huge variety of craft beer as well as a fine selection of scotch, bourbon and everything in-between. For some reason the bartenders refused to serve me. I ended up giving up and going back to sit with my friends. One of my buddies went up and got a drink with no issue and came back to our booth. The bartender left the bar walked over to our booth and then asked to see my ID. When I told him that I wasn't drinking he told me he still needed to see it. When I lived in Lincoln, my friends had to pry me out of a seat to get me to go to any other pub. This place is fantastic (despite the fact that it's a hipter's wet dream). It can get overly smokey on a weekend night, especially after a Husker game, but that's really quite minor in my opinion. Also great for a casual smoker to get a clove and enjoy the eve. As a previous reviewer noted, the Whiskey, Scotch, Bourbon selection is that of the dreams of Ron Swanson. But the beer selection is one of the best I've found in Lincoln. Taps are always changing, which is only sad if you've found one you love, but always the opportunity to try something new. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable and if the beer selection overwhelms you, they've always helped me out with an excellent choice. As I said... The downsides are smokey on busy nights and it's the effing hipster heaven, but for me that just gives this place so much character that's lacking elsewhere in Lincoln, I cannot and will not downgrade it for that. Each time I come back to Lincoln, this place is ALWAYS on my to-do list... usually more than once. read more

Cool venue. I am not a cigar smoker, but I enjoyed my time here tonight. The rum and coke with mostly rum and only cost $4 so I felt like I was getting a good value. The music was good, the cigars smelled great, and a good time was had. There is limited seating, but the booths that are available were comfortable. I heard they showed GoT on Sundays and ran over to experience what it was like watching with a room full of people. There weren't that many people in and I thought I might be in the wrong place, but the bartender said I was. I ordered a drink, The Great Canton, that was good and not expensive. Had I come from the other direction on the street, I may have noticed another part of the bar, but the part I was in was nice. There was one group of people that were a little too loud and into whatever was on their laptops, but they left. I assume they are regulars, which I get. Not often one can find a place like Jake's. Outstanding selection of whiskey and beer with great music and lively atmosphere. The cigar selection is limited, but likely everyone can find something smokable. I certainly will visit the place again when in Lincoln.
