My husband and I are patients here, and I must say this is the best dentist I've ever been to. A few highlights: -I never have waited more than 10 minutes in the reception area. -Staff is extremely friendly and jovial! They really make you feel like a friend/neighbor/etc. They go above and beyond; for example, when using my health card, my ins. company makes me verify any card purchases, and they require itemized receipts. I lost my receipt, and not wanting to make another trip, I called the office. The receptionist emailed me out a copy ASAP, and went through the statement to circle different itemizations to make it easier on the ins. company. -Their text messaging system is GREAT for appointment reminders. They also send out emails if you want! -The technology is really up-to-date. They a water cleaning system prior to using the metal tool to remove plaque/tarter build up. It basically eliminated the harshness of the scraping with the metal pick. -My hygienist was excellent. My pet peeve is when you're mouth is getting worked on, and someone chats and chats and chats. I like to get the cleaning over with as quickly as possible while being done thoroughly: My hygienist was extremely pleasant, but not chatty. She worked very promptly, but was very meticulous. She would frequently "check-in" to make sure I was OK. She explained everything very clearly. I've had both of the male dentists, and they were awesome. Both took the time to answer any questions, and like the hygienists, would check-in while examining to make sure everything was OK. I would highly recommend these professionals to family and friends!

Two years later, we went in for cleanings. I have never accepted fluoride & we only do x-rays at the minimum my insurance allows. This was nothing new, but this time Booker seemed offended & expressed his frustration to me. I said that was my wishes & we hadn't had an issue before, but he wanted to argue. I declined, finished the cleaning & left. 6 months later I went in & needed to get an old filling replaced. I had just had a doctor's appt where she told me to be careful what type of filling I get for medical reasons. When I expressed this to Booker & asked questions about what he uses he said he wanted my doctor's name because he was going to tell her she didn't know what she was talking about. I said that is very aggressive & he proceeded to tell me that I just need to let him do his job. He could not tell me what type of filling material he used or any health risks. He then started ranting about people who ask too many questions. I declined for him to do my work. His attitude & aggressive behavior is disturbing. He has an attitude like no one knows more than him, but he can't even tell you the materials he uses. I decided then I would not return. The next time my husband took my kids, the receptionist asked him if he was competent enough to make follow up appointments or if she should call me. Extremely sexist & just plan rude. My kids then did not return. My husband was the last holdout, until now. This week, he has an emergency. He was in a car accident & cracked a tooth. He called the office at 11 am to find out they had different hours for spring break... they closed at noon. However they didn't answer the phone at 11 am... he left a message to say he had an emergency. Nothing. No call back. He called again today & it says now that they are closed until Monday. He then received a message saying they wouldn't take care of him until Monday. Who closes their office for Spring Break? This business is so unprofessional. We're done.

I had never had a good experience with a dentist in my life (maybe because I have a tiny child mouth and I'm always being yelled at to "open wider"...) so, I almost never went to the same one more than a couple times. I was hesitant to start over at another place, but I am so glad I did... On walking in, you can tell everyone loves working there and that they are a family. Dr Greg and Dr Joanne (married couple practice, how nice?) are so sweet they provide their own figurative job security; plus they have gadgets for checking your teeth that I had never heard of (including this thingy you can rest your teeth on that holds my tiny child mouth open for fillings, etc.) and the whole staff is excellent at what they do. In addition to regular cleanings, I had Six-Month-Smiles (quick braces thingies) to re-straighten my teeth before my wedding, so I got to spend more time there than the average patient which allowed me more time to observe the interactions between the hygienists, assistants, techs, doctors, and other patients. What sets this dentist office apart from many is the way they bill their patients. Here's a breakdown of my experience. 1. I was a new patient, and getting an appointment was quick and easy. 2. Wait was 20 min past scheduled time 3. Normal cleaning was actually amazing - took an hour. 4. All 4 dentists were out of the office doing some charity work, so I was unable to get an exam. Ok, this is where everything went downhill with this office for me. When I called to set up appointment, I specifically said I wanted a cleaning and exam. Why wouldn't I? My insurance covers it two times per year. So I had to schedule another appointment. I did so when I was checking out, which was no big deal for me as I had to bring my son in anyway. So here's my second experience with Karkaris. 1. Had exam performed by Dr. K 2. She found some issues, said my insurance would cover 80%. I said fine, go for it. 3. Procedures went great, now they ship me off to pay. That's right - PAY. 4. I've never been to a dentist that makes you pay up front before they send it to the insurance company. 5. And they made me pay close to 40% of the cost. 6. I was dumbfounded but paid it anyways. So about a week later my insurance sends me the bill for what I should have to pay the dentist. Surprise, I paid double what I should have. I waited about 2 weeks for a refund. It never came!! So I called them asking when they were planning on refunding me. The lady actually said they can keep it as a credit for future work. I said absolutely not, I'd like my money back, thank you. Every dentist I've been to has billed the insurance first rather than the patient. I will not be returning to this shady operation. How many people have been over charged and didn't look closely enough at their insurance bill? Stay away!!

I feel like a freak because I love going to the dentist…read more Before I began visiting Dr. Cohen, I had already sat through a ton of dental work including a few extractions, countless fillings and a couple temporary crowns with several dentists. I *really* didn't like dentists before I met Dr. Cohen because my teeth had been treated carelessly by the dentists before him. But ask me now about going to the dentist and I'll say I love it. I mean, like everyone, I still hate getting my teeth cleaned and the terrifying sound of a drill against my tooth, but overall Dr. Cohen and his team make sitting in the dentist chair the best possible experience. I'm mainly updating my review to say this is still an awesome dental office. I now live in Dearborn but drive out of my way to have my dental needs taken care of in Wyandotte. I recently had to have 2 more crowns done (sucks, I know!) and they were both great experiences. Dr. Cohen and his amazing dental assistants always make sure to explain what he's doing, make sure I can't feel anything and that I'm as comfortable as possible. They even take care to put a moisturizer on your lips to make sure your lips and corner of your mouth don't get cracked during a procedure and give you sunglasses to keep the bright light (and water!) out of your eyes. His office still offers the amazing paraffin wax treatment, along with a nice, heavy shoulder massage wrap. They also have an iPad to play with while waiting for the doctor to come in, how cool is that? In addition, I noticed they made a few upgrades to the way they examine your teeth in regard to total body health. Again, if you're looking for an awesome, tech-savvy, considerate dentist with assistants and staff that truly care about you, please consider Dr. Cohen in Wyandotte. I hated dentists before I started going there but now, I can say: "Yep, I love going to the dentist."

And I use a sonicare and see a dentist every 6 months. I was shaken. It also took 40 minutes to have my X-rays done since I was a guinea pig for a dental assistant trainee who zapped me an estimated 20+ times and said it's normal for X-rays to be painful. It was awful. The dentist recommended 2 small fillings between two of my back teeth, even though only one cavity was visible and previous dentists had been keeping an eye on it. I had the filling appointment today and when I went back it was a different dentist and he said I was scheduled for 2 fillings, not on adjacent teeth. I told him that wasn't what I was expecting and he looked over my xrays and agreed there was a mistake. I ended up getting 1 filling. The dentist was skilled and professional but I will not be back to this office. Instruments that my dentist requested during my procedure were not available and a tool was not working properly but they had to make due with it. I felt like I was at a bottom of the barrel dentist office. I guess this is what I should expect from a national chain? Last but not least I was surprised by the estimated fees other than my copay. Aspen dentist is in my insurance ppo network and fillings are covered 100%. That is why I chose this office. Last week I requested the dental office submit a service estimate to my insurer and my insurer provided an estimate that stated I would only owe the deductible. Aspen dental still coerced me into signing paperwork stating I would pay the additional fees if my insurance didn't cover the charges. This was done before I saw the dentist and my procedure changed. I will have to call my insurance company tomorrow to see if they still billed for 2 fillings because this office is a shit show.
