We bought our late 90s built home in 2012, and it only had a standard (at the time) 6-inches of…read morepink BATT insulation in the attic. So, our furnace has been working harder and more frequently to keep the house adequately heated for the past several winters. We finally got fed up of this lack of additional barrier between us and the cold outside. I was inspired by Consumers Energy offering a rebate check when insulation is upgraded by an approved vendor. I found AEE as the only Gold-star rated, licensed and insured installer in my area and approved by Consumers Energy. They earned their stars and stripes. I set up a free quote with the straight to the point and knowledgeable company owner, John. He explained his recommendations for adding about 11-12in.of fiberglass/wool blend blow-in insulation into the entire attic for a total of 17-18in., as well as having his field manager and caulk expert Mark seal all our windows and doors. He left me with a competitive quote and let me take long as I wanted to think on it and get other quotes. After a few quotes - my gut instinct gravitated me to AEE. I wanted to 'Art of the Deal' a bit with John to bring his quote closer to another competitor's. He was fair in working with me. We struck a deal. His 2-man insulation team came to our home around 10am and worked until about 4-5pm thoroughly insulating my attic. His field manager and caulking expert Mark did a great job sealing all the windows and doors for air leaks in a matter of 1-2 hours tops. They went above and beyond my expectations and were honest fellows. At one point when they realized they slightly undershot the amount of product needed for the job - they went and got more product to complete the job. John was a man of his word - he honored the contract without trying to work in the marginal unforeseen product and labor. They were thoughtful enough to blow some extra insulation into the space above our toddler's bedroom - which is definitely the problem area with our climate control. The workers used slip covers on their shoes and used towels to keep hoses from damaging walls. They vacuumed and cleared all waste after their work. Fast forward a week, and I will tell you that this was one of the best upgrades we have done for our home. The disparity in climate and cold drafts in different areas of our home is way better now. Upstairs is improved, the den stays toastier now, and the kitchen side of our house now holds heat better. A marked difference in the radiant heat comfort throughout the house. It is no placebo effect. The furnace is able to drive the temp up quicker, then the temp holds better and drops slower. So the furnace does not have to stay on as long of duration, and the interim between it firing up has increased. Savings on gas, and less wear and tear on the furnace too! Wish I had done this back when we bought the home. Better late than never. Highly recommend AEE. Just follow the simple steps I detailed above, get the work done, and get that rebate. You will have a top notch upgrade, at a great bottom line price. Two thumbs up!

AEE engineers came to my house and identified areas of improvement that I frankly would never think…read moreare a problem. I had an extensive energy audit performed, indoor air quality check, insulation installed, window caulking, rim joist seal/insulation, thermometer replacement, and various other home improvements. This was after the cost vs. benefit was explained to me with the supporting data. Once everything was completed, they walked me through the utility company rebate and tax credit process to ensure I received the full benefit of all work performed. Ultimately, I made money from the inspection and walked away with a house that was significantly more energy efficient with lower utility bills. It's a shame that it's so rare to find great companies with great people nowadays. AEE (John and Mark in particular) were super professional, friendly, polite, and extremely knowledgeable. It was an absolute pleasure working with them and I was able to learn quite a bit. These guys are not your typical salesmen, they are subject matter experts and come with only the highest of recommendation from me!

She then set a appointment for their estimator Renae to come and inspect the job. I was kind of concerned in that he looked at where the leak was and just shot a number off the top oh his head. While it was a little more then i expected it was close so i went with it. The appointment was made for the following Tuesday at 8 am. At 7:30 on that Tuesday there is a knock at the door i answer and a man says hi I am Tom and i would like to check the basement. Next thing i know there are dump trucks, pick ups, backhoe's and 6 guys running around. All of which were professional and knowledgeable. 5 hours later when then were done I could not tell they were there. Was very impressed with entire experience except having to give up 2600 for a leaking wall lol. I intentionally waited this long to make sure there were no leaks before i gave this review. This is a first class organization that i would be confident referring to friends and family

Brick & Level Masonry Restoration - Chimney Rebuild Done in Huntington Woods

    Brick & Level Masonry Restoration

    (6 reviews)

A recent professional inspection of the chimney this company repaired, just over a year ago,…read moredeclared it unsafe for use, in part, due to the repair work. The flue tile installed was a different size from the original, creating an unsafe ledge that can collect creosote and cause a chimney fire. Additionally, the crown has separated from the brick and lacks an overhang to direct rain water away from the brick beneath. The crown is now crumbling and mortar cracks have started to appear between the replaced bricks. The inspection was conducted prior to ever using the fireplace, approximately a year after the repairs were done. This after the chimney caps they installed flew off during a storm narrowly avoiding damaging the roof and could have injured a person or pet. The caps were dented and some of their internal welds broken. After months of requests, the one cap that was replaced was installed on a decorative, non-functional tile. When pointed out, a damaged original cap was installed on the functional chimney tile without telling me. When I inspected the work later, I found both caps improperly installed, without the retention screws being properly secured/tightened. When this and other work was done on the house a year ago, we had to call them back several times to repair issues that were hidden from us during the final walk through. Issues included but are not limited to a non-functional damper, broken bricks that hadn't been replaced as expected and completely missing bricks above grade. In one missing brick case, a brick hole, just above grade, was filled completely with mortar, no brick, and dirt had been piled in front to hide it. In another case, this time well above grade, a storage cabinet was placed in front to hide it from view. Based on these facts, I now lack piece of mind on the other repairs made; time will tell. I never want these people to touch my house again, even to repair the items listed above, and recommend you avoid using them.
