I have been dealing with a major back issue and I patiently waited to be scheduled to see Dr. Chira. I understand during COVID-19 times now, that everything can be more slow-paced and a health risk; however, I felt as if I was put on the back burner. I had to head to the ER in order for myself to get any type of doctor's note for my job. I did not feel comfortable going back to work in my condition and wanted to get answers! A week and a half later, I finally did see Dr. Chira, and there was still no proper diagnosis. I, myself, recommended to get a MRI done to get a better understanding of what's going on with my back. Also, to see what issues are going on. I had 1 more follow-up appointment with Dr. Chira after that; that being after my MRI was done and results were in. Still no clear-cut answers from him. I had to continually repeat with him what medications I am on; as well as what I have been doing since my back injury. It's as if he didn't remember anything I had told him prior? Not to mention Dr. Chira explicitly wanted me to call my pharmacy to "double-check" what medications I am on so there is no "confusion." I was dumbfounded and couldn't believe my PCP was not believing me. Dr. Chira handled my diagnosis with no clear-cut answers. I had to bring up physical therapy as an option. I expressed concern and interest in Short Term Disability because my back injury is going to take a lot more time that I had imagined apparently. I am looking out for the wealth fare of my job! Dr. Chira cringed at my vocal expression with STD! Why? I was looking for guidance and reassurance. I was looking for help and concern. All I received was disconnect and lack of empathy. Lastly, when Dr. Chira brought up what I do for work, he mentioned maybe I should find another job? How can I make that assumption when I need to make sure and take care of my issue first. Especially before I can decided anything like that? He was not helping me with responses such as that! Not to mention one of his office receptionists, a Miss Stacey. The very few times I spoke with her over the phone in these last 3 weeks, was, only a complete disregard for my feelings and disrespectfulness. I am finding a new PCP and have no intention of going back to Dr. Chira. He failed me as my PCP; and that's saying a lot for me considering I had been seeing him for almost 10 years. Shame on you Dr. Chira!

Had an attack of epididymitis (inflammation of the tubes behind testicles where sperm accumulates)…read morein August 2022. I went to see Dr Xiaolong Shawn Liu, M.D. for a second opinion, and to get insight into restarting exercise and using Traditional Chinese Medicine. The initial urologist I had seen told me to stop all exercise, but when I asked about how/when to restart exercises said that was out of their scope of practice. Meanwhile the chronic pain and discomfort were affecting my sleep, mood and daily life. The scientific literature says that the prognosis in chronic patients is unclear and that the average patient chronic epididymitis sees 4.5 different urologists while seeking a cure. Dr Liu reviewed my case file, ultrasound report, did a manual exam, and answered my questions. He was honest that two months of chronic inflammation was not at all unusual. Gave me advice about restarting physical activity (pace yourself, start very slowly and not at same intensity that you were before being sick, continue to wear compression shorts). In the meantime I had set up an appointment with a Chinese acupuncturist, (Wendy Li @ Acupuncture Herbs and Beyond) and after single visit had an impressive relief of pain for the first time in three months after getting acupuncture and taking the Chinese herbs prescribed for me. A concern when doing alternative medicine is that you could be ignoring real pathology. Dr.Liu explained that while it could not be explained by western medicine, TCM was successful for some people, the Chinese are very pragmatic people, have been doing TCM for thousands of years, and if it didn't work they would be doing something else. He said that there was no serious pathology that would preclude me from continuing with TCM treatment, and that if this didn't resolve in a years time, to come back to discuss potential surgery such as nerve blocks. So Dr. Liu knows his stuff and I was able to get an appointment within two weeks. (As for my case I continued with weekly visits for TCM for the next month and the pain and swelling subsided nicely over next three weeks.)
