I began with a beard trim by a dude with a crew cut, followed by a rather spiffing haircut from another dude with a strong beard and an envy-inducing hipster tache, and finally had my hair styled post-cut by the owner. The team are very speedy, with a good level of banter. The beard trim was quite good, but the straight razor could have cut closer around the neckline, the haircut was good and so too was the brief styling. It's always scary getting a haircut from someone new, but I'm overjoyed to say they did a good job, and I'd definitely consider going back.

Worst Barber I've ever been…read more After getting in and sitting down without a hello or welcome from the staff we were watching one customer being taken care of in the slowest pace I've ever seen. No "sorry, it'll take longer" or anything close to customer friendliness. Even when we left angry after one and a half hours of waiting, they didn't even ask or care about the only customers in the shop (except the one who was already there) leaving. Yes, they saw us. Being ignored in a ~ 50 squarefoot barbershop is nice. Do not go to this racist, prejudiced barbershop. It's a shame for the whole profession.

A haircut is a haircut, should be faster than the time required to write this review thumb typing on an iPhone. There is a minimum that I require: clean scissors and clippers, clean shop, barber that inspires confidence that both your ears will stay in place. For me, an added bonus is not much talk if I wanted to chat I would be having coffee with my friends. Not immediately disliking the cut and a cheap price is also good. In this sense, selecting Mario's and Son's is a no brainer. Yes, they don't spell it Sons and this is a plus. Genius that transcends the common conventions. I don't know who the barber was (not really interested in names) looked young, had a shaved head. Asked all the right questions (in a barely comprehensible accent): how would you like your hair?, sideburns?, do you want the back square or natural?. Perfect. At £8.50 for dry cut, £10 wet you can't possibly go wrong.

I came there on recommendation from my colleague who goes there all the time. I was greeted and sat for a short wait while reading through the selection of daily newspapers. A young gentleman named Farooq (apologies if it's spelled incorrectly) and gave him the same instructions I usually give hair dressers; 3-4 with clippers on the side, scissors on top with a smooth transition. In a blaze of hair and water spray I feel like Edward Scissorhands is going at it with the speed he was cutting, while at the same time remaining extremely observant to the details. All of a sudden it's over, and it's perfect. I had even shown a picture of how I wanted it, and as if Rain Man himself, he looked it once and copied it to perfection. Following the cut was a hot towel treatment and I couldn't be happier (or more relaxed!). This is close to the office so will be my regular hair salon from now on and will most certainly recommend to others.

The proprietor thinks he knows better and asks me if I'm Chinese - I say no. He looks confused, but says, I give you best hair cut for a Chinese. I mean, what's my race got to do with what I ask for. He says, your hair, short back no good. I say, I want it that way. We carry on with this sort of banter back and forth and he gives me a short back and sides, and I say, just trim a little off the top and blend in the sides. Nope, he just takes a scissors to my hair and just goes for it. I now look like a toilet brush just in time for a Yelp event this week. Also, one of the roughest barbers I've been to. I assume someone's going to think I'm a prissy pants for not manning up, but this guy wouldn't listen and just plain rough. Don't go here if you respect how you look. What an awful place. I actually feel somewhat violated, since my attempts to refuse a short haircut went so ridiculously ignored. Ugh.
