The shop has a really cool decor, with subway tiles and colour-coordinated hair product. The seats are super comfy and the tunes are blaring! Kris gave me a sweet fade, and cut just enough off the top, finished with a really neat edge up, so I left with my hair the perfect length. Total cost was £18, which is slightly more than I normally pay to get a beard trim too, but I'll be back because the trim was good, and I really want to help the business to succeed. (I'm very lazy when it comes to shaving.) When I entered Venus Barbers on Clapham High Street on a Wednesday morning, I was greeted by the staff and immediately asked to sit down. I explained that I was here for a shave and the friendly barber offered me a tea. (Interestingly, he then went outside the shop and got a tea from a next door café.) The shaving procedure started soon after with a face massage. Overall I really liked the shaving experience: the staff were super friendly and I felt really comfortable. The shave itself was thorough. (In fact, felt a little bad as I presented them with quite a challenge by not having shaved for more than 4 days.) I enjoyed the face massage that preceded the shave as well as the more elaborate post-shave facial massage. The hot towel at the end also felt good. There were a few things, however, that I feel could be improved: I would have liked the hot towel place on my face before the shave as well. (I'm not an expert, but I believe that facilitates the softening of the hair?) Also, the barber himself had hands that still smelled like cigarette smoke. (As an ex-smoker myself I know how hard it is to get rid of that smell, but the experience would've been nicer without it.) The shave altogether came up to £13, which is more than the Turkish barbers in Dalston, but still a bargain compared to the prices that they charge in the city. Plus, the cheerfulness of the staff made me want to come back one day.

Bring cash since its the only way you can pay... besides it saves business owners all those fees. Sit back relax, get a great cut and even a shave which I highly recommend. We were walking down the main street and saw Porters was open which was a very charming hole in the wall barber shop. We walked in and were greeted immediately by the gentleman in the first chair who was extremely friendly. He said he was a short wait and offered us drinks which included water, coffee, apple juice and more including beers... YES BEERS!! We enjoyed a beer and waited for him to be sat and we were people watching and it was so amazing to see how intimate these barbers were with their clients telling them tips and tricks to stay maintained and just sharing stories (typical boy time if I was not there), but it was so awesome to see!! My boyfriend was then sat in the third chair (I didn't get his name sadly), but he was extremely friendly and kept the conversation going and recommended a bunch of places to go that ended up being extremely good! He also did a great cut on my boyfriend and we were both happy with the experience!! I would highly recommend!! These guys need to branch off to the USA!!

I began with a beard trim by a dude with a crew cut, followed by a rather spiffing haircut from another dude with a strong beard and an envy-inducing hipster tache, and finally had my hair styled post-cut by the owner. The team are very speedy, with a good level of banter. The beard trim was quite good, but the straight razor could have cut closer around the neckline, the haircut was good and so too was the brief styling. It's always scary getting a haircut from someone new, but I'm overjoyed to say they did a good job, and I'd definitely consider going back.

First time was with a blonde lady, who was very good. But more recently I had a cut from a guy called Sam who looks quite young and has a crew cut. He works Thu-Sun, is very friendly, and cuts a good trim. Recommended.
