This a clean, adequate facility for fully functional, independent, mobile, good natured elderly…read morepeople. Be aware that this facility does not provide Level 3 care. They speak of allowing for transition of residents into Level 3 care as needed. This is not always the case. You must be proactive if your family member is accepted. Be sure that you understand fully the extent of care that they will actually need. We were not aware of the full deterioration of our father's mental status until he arrived at Oak Manor. If your family member has behavioral issues such as our father did, this is not a good fit. Oak Manor has neither the of staff nor the staff training to deal with the situations that can arise from this issue. There is no question that our father caused a maximum level of disturbance and disruption upon arriving. This created a tremendous amount of anxiety for our family and staff. The fact that he did not belong there became immediately apparent. That having been said, even terribly difficult people have others who love them. This situation was painful for everyone involved. A few of the staff members made unprofessional statements regarding our father that were not in keeping with the integrity that this establishment tries to maintain. I will say that immediate disciplinary actions were taken which we were grateful for. Our father has now been admitted to an Alzheimer's care facility where he has been stabilized and is doing well. Have extensive evaluations done by personnel trained in both medicine and psychology aside from those employed by the facility prior to considering placement. Sometimes loved ones are just too close to the situation to be able to make an informed decision without professional guidance.

At the beginning of November he had a stroke and spends 21 days in re-hab center in Vallejo. On December 3, he gets released to come home. We hired 24 hour care at an exorbitant amount of money and it was not that helpful and awkward having someone in your house 24/7. His physical abilities were declining and we were forced to start looking for an elder care facility. We looked for almost three weeks before finding Belhaven with Monica and Dan. They came to our home to save us a trip. Upon explaining the services they offered, talking to Dennis about what he wanted for care and making both he and I feel comfortable with this horrible decision we made arrangements to move him. Dennis who was only 68 years old when he moved to Belhaven. At the time he was the only man living in the back house and was treated like a king. Not once did I ever regret our decision. All his needs were met by the staff with smiles, humor, compassion, empathy and tenderness. As his physical limitations worsened, his ability to communicate was starting to fail and still they all went beyond my expectations. I probably should mention he entered BelHaven the day the world shut down for COVID. Dennis passed peacefully in August 2020.
