Unfortunately, the service was never the same and the personal touch we were accustomed to receiving was also gone. For the past 3 years, we basically uploaded our information to their web portal and we then went to their office to sign our documents. There was almost zero communication! Now on to Asher. I reached out to him and I will admit that I was a little nervous since it's been years since we used another tax firm. Asher offered to have my wife and I come in to simply talk and get to know one another at no charge. When we arrived, yes his office is small and the seating is limited but we were greeted with a warm welcome. We talked and got to know each other for about a half-hour. My wife and I walked away feeling good so we decided to proceed with his tax services. We dropped off our paperwork and went through everything to ensure he had all the information required to complete our taxes. Asher reviewed our information and reached out with questions as they came up. Once he was done he called us in to review all the information. He worked up various scenarios per our request and he found the best option for us. Asher worked hard to ensure he delivered the results we were in need of. He explained the various option in great detail so that we would clearly understand how each option would work. Best thing about getting taxes done from her is that she will make sure to not miss anything on your taxable income. For example, if you have done stock trading or foreign bank interests in the past and forget to provide the documents this year, she will remind you and get anything missing on that front. She is very thorough with her documentation and is very quick to respond and always available for queries. Her turnaround time is also very quick. One year I had asked her to do the taxes just 4 days before the last date and yet she finished everything well in time. Unlike other CPAs, her fees doesn't increase exponentially based on how many different kinds of forms you have be it stock trading, interest certificates or any other taxable income, she usually charges a very nominal and flat rate for everything, be it simple or too complex.

However the past 2 years has been a nightmare working with her. First she wouldn't file taxes on time. She wouldn't respond to any of our emails/calls and let us know literally few days before deadline that she is delayed. She also would want us to follow up with IRS to seek extension. Last year, despite filling the returns late, she filed incorrectly. This led to IRS sending us a bill of close to $10k. Owing several thousands of dollars around August was quite frustrating to plan and budget in the middle of a year. Neither did she apologize for her mistake nor did she offer to pay for penalties. We had to pay more for her to refile. It was a terrible experience to follow up several times before she would respond. After about 30 emails she said she'd take care of refilling. However, around mid December she said she's going on a vacation and that she couldn't reach IRS for an extension. Had she told us before, we would have tried to reach IRS! We were left scrambling trying to reach a government office in the later part of December! Finally it was well past new year (Jan) when we were able to refile our returns for the previous year! Overall, it was a tiresome experience and absolutely don't recommend! This year, after following up several times, she responded today saying her software isn't working and that we should be seeking an extension from IRS. I'm super pissed to say the least. I spoke to a few of my friends and they have similar stories to share. So, I along with all the friends I have referred are in the process of finding a new tax consultant.
