I am voicing my opinion as one who works in the industry and has to fight for the clients (aka: insureds). I work with a Broker Dealer, we deal with all the different insurance companies on behalf of agents and their clients. We have agents that bring to us new applications, trying to transfer their Jackson National policies to annuities or other life policies. I will NEVER use Jackson National. They are the WORST company to work with. One instance, the company we are trying to transfer to, has said they called Jackson National and JN told them that the contract number on the transfer form is not correct. The agents office called JN and JN told them it is correct....this happened twice on the same client. Then after the last time the new company called and was told that the contract number was correct, the agents office called and JN had already mailed a check...4 months after it was submitted! They are terrible to work with. They do NOT have the best interest of the client (insured) in mind. DO NOT put your money here. There are enough options out there, you can find a better company who is better about moving YOUR money. Also, if you are a client and have had insurance with them or are trying to move money or get money and they are giving you the run around...call the Department of Insurance (for your state) and lodge a formal complaint (agent's/producer's can't file complaints), you can google your states Department of Insurance to file a complaint. read more

I placed claim for life insurance benefits on 7-17-18 after my mom passed in june. Enclosed was policy # & certified death cert. with her s.s. # I got a letter friday from Laura Hanson telling me the policy doesnt exist. My mom has paid monthly on that policy since 1986! they even ach. withdrawed a preium payment on July 1, AFTER she died. No such policy? the Co. cant even search by S.S. #. & the policy # was clear as day on the claim form. SOUNDS LIKE INSURANCE FRAUD TO ME. Apparently Jackson National handles contracts for many different companies including Washington National, which is the company which now owns my Mom's annuity. Most representatives have been instructed not to tell you that they are Jackson National employees. The service reps work out of Lincoln, Nebraska and that is where all statements and correspondence originate concerning Washington National. Confused yet? My current issue is that they have sent 1099 forms and an end of year statement which do not match. I noticed this over a month ago and contacted them immediately by phone. I wrote a follow-up letter 3 weeks ago and still do not have a corrected statement that I can reconcile with the 1099s. The service reps just tell you 'it's in progress'. I'm sure by now they have me pegged as a 'difficult customer' because I keep calling for more information. The latest is that they 'may' have a corrected statement available by Friday, April 15th (barely in time for the tax filing deadline). My past issues with them are the difficult time one has trying to change withholding or change monthly disbursements. Unlike most modern day financial institutions, they do not have any provisions for e-mailing statements, nor do they have capability for on-line inquiries of account balances and account activity. Also, they have sent withholding to the wrong state for two years after they asked me if I wanted the statements mailed to me. I live in California, but my Mom, the contract holder, lives in Oregon. Withholding was sent to California in error. If they handle their own contracts they way they've handled my Mom's Washington National contract, I would advise you to stay away from this company. read more

We are retired and nearing the end of a current 20 year term life insurance policy, and were just sent our renewal premium. We have been paying $1045.00 a year. The premium notice states that it is now going up to just under $36,000.00 per year!! Assuming that the decimal point was wrong in the letter, we called the company to inquire. They say that is the correct amount, and is only for a 1 year term. Is this even legal?? To get a new term policy elsewhere would cost roughly $3400.00 per year based on current age and health. JNL acquired these policies over the years from other companies, and obviously doesn't want to be in the life insurance business as they are in the business of selling annuities. They have chosen to force senior citizens to look elsewhere after 20 years of faithful payments. This seems criminal, and should be investigated by the insurance industry oversight bodies. An increase of 2x or even 3x the old policy premium might be understood, but not 35x! Be warned current policy holders of Jackson National Life!! read more

My 20 year TERM Life Insurance Policy expired on 9/10/17. My original policy was obviously sold to this company. My original policy was $98.06 every six months for a $250,000 term life insurance policy. When you purchase Term, once the time period is over, your policy is complete. So I thought. This company expects me to continue the TERM policy for $718.00 every six months!! They have sent numerous notifications, which I have to laugh at. The policy is complete. I don't know why they believe they can continue a policy that has terminated in its own right. Is this company legit?? read more

Their variable annuity is close to a scam. The fine print in their contract resulted in an annuity worth $120,000 less than the salesman and the promotional material indicated. Received my annual policy statements from Jackson National Life Insurance company in November, 2018. The statements were INCORRECT. The statements showed balances in each account at over $34,000. The face value of the policies is less that $5,000 for each policy. There is no way in hell that Jackson National Life Insurance Company will ever pay $34,000 for these policies. Have written Jackson Life and asked for correct statements. No response from them. The balance on each account should be far less that than the $34,000 they quoted on my annual statement of value. They have a serious IT (information technology) problem. I will contact the North Carolina Department of Insurance and see if the State of North Carolina can suspend the license to operate in the Sate of North Carolina. I have had these policies for many years and the policies have been thru the hands of at least three different companies. read more

My family has 3 annuity accounts with this company and have had nothing but trouble trying to surrender all 3 accounts! We would send in paperwork and nothing was ever processed. We would call to check the status and they would claim they didn't receive the paperwork or they couldn't give us a clear answer as to why things were not being processed other than blaming another department. It has taken me over 2 months of phone calls, emails, and faxed documents and we still have not received a check from the last account. I would highly suggest not using this company! read more

My mother has been paying into this burial insurance policy since 1989 (30 years) and has paid around $6,000 into it. She will only get $4,000 or whatever the current market is when she passes. I have had a retirement annuity with Jackson National for several years and have been very happy with the company. Everything has been good until I wanted to withdraw money from "my account." The money was withdrawn and the check was sent to LPL Financial where it had to stay for 5 additional days. I feel that this is ridiculous, since it is my money. In addition, I received a standard form letter from the company explaining the consequences of withdrawing the funds. The letter made me feel like I had done something wrong and they encouraged me to pay back most of the money as soon as possible. I am very upset with this company and am considering having my financial advisor withdraw the remaining $200,000 and putting it with another company. I realize Jackson National is like many financial institutions, great until you want to withdraw your money. read more

We are extremely frustrated with Jackson and cannot get the local agent to return our calls or respond via email. We have had life insurance policies through Jackson (and the companies that previously owned them) my entire life. In the past 7 years, however, we have tried to transfer our adult children's policies to them and they have repeatedly messed it up - including breaches of HIPAA (confidentiality) in the process. Once you initiate a Life Insurance Policy with JN it is perpetual until you send them formal notice terminating it. You do not have to accept or sign anything, they just automatically renew it and start a new policy at an unbelievably astronomical premium. When I noticed what had happened and contacted them they said they had acted in accordance with all of THEIR policies and while it was unfortunate for me, it was basically MY fault because I did not formally terminate the policy. They will never get another dime from me and I will make it my lifelong pursuit to make sure they don't get any from anyone else I can influence. In typical fashion, I paid premiums for 10 years that they gladly accepted and never had to pay a claim on, but when I asked for some consideration I was SOL. RIPOFF!!! read more

This company is terrible, my parents have been paying them since 1993 and within the last year their premium has gone up to over $450.00 that is ridicules for them who are on a fixed income. My mother passed away in September and we still haven't received any of her insurance claim they always have some excuse for me or the funeral home directors when they call to find out when it will be mailed out. This is the worst insurance company period . Almost 30 years ago I took out policies on my wife and myself. The premium was less than $100 for both. Today I am paying almost $500 as they have continued to raise the rates every year. In addition I have to pay additional costs every year amounting hundreds of dollars because they say my "balance" is not sufficient to cover the cost of the insurance. I have consistently paid these costs yet today I received notice that they have cancelled my wife after 28 years. This company sucks and I will never recommend them to anyone. My wife and I are now in our seventies and are both disabled and uninsurable. To cancel her at this stage of her life is as low as you can get. I highly discourage anyone to invest with this company. I had an annuity with Jackson from 2013 to 2018. The rate of return was horrible. My total increase in the investment after their fees was only about 1% per year - during a bull market before major losses in the stock market in mid to late December of 2018. In addition, they failed to properly associate my social security number with my account so I initially couldn't access my account online. This lack of professionalism was disheartening as well as their commitment to ensure that I, as their client, received a reasonable rate of return during years of strong economic growth in our economy. read more

My 98 year old mother has a policy with them . They are asking for money to get it out of the negative and raise the premium. I shared the latest statement with some local insurance agents I know. I was told the problem is the cost of the insurance is too high. Being on a fixed income we have no choice but to lose all she has paid into the policy. We are trying to recover money we paid by turning in Surrender Form for our long-matured insurance. They keep rejecting the form-- saying there was a corrected mistake (which was corrected by crossing out and initialed by us.), 2nd one was they need more paperworks by sending us additional paperwork. Trying to get this company to pay out a benefit claim has been a nightmare. Claim forms have been submitted 4 times in the last 4 months following their instructions to the letter. We have inherited an annuity and was sued by family member for part of it. In court documents it states the surrender amount taxes are the responsible of the suer. Jackson sent us the 1099. It has been a nightmare. Working currently to make Jackson reissue the 1099 to the suer. They won't let our attorney talk to their legal department. Horrible company to deal with. read more

My 10 year life insurance policy completed it's term at $121 per/mo and Jackson Life has failed three times to stop the policy and has in fact had it escalate to a new plan that is charging me a new rate of $1200 and automatically deducted it from my checking account! My experience with Jackson National Life Insurance Company matched that of the previous statements made in these reviews. Our father passed away in October 2019 and it is now February 2020 and we are still receiving duplicate paperwork to be filled out. Our father has paid premiums to this company for forty-six years and when it was time to redeem the whole life insurance policy, we still to this day, do not have the check for his final arrangements. If we were to wait on this company my dad would still be above ground. The company would not, in the beginning, even disclose the amount of the policy to the beneficiary (our mom). I have requested to have a signed copy of the policy, because they have told me that he paid his premium for forty-six years and the whole life policy is worth peanuts. He has paid them four to five times over the worth of the policy. Taking advantage of the elder should be a crime!!! It is unethical to do so and detrimental to the insured financially. read more
