My father passed away on 6/3 and we contacted them 6/7/21. It took them over a month to get the packet that we needed sent to out home. I had to reach out to them each week to get updates, they never communicated any updates with me. When I would call they would tell me my mom needs to withdraw herself as beneficiary, then said my dad did something wrong "human error". They had no clue what was going on or how to help us get insurance money for our mother. My father paid them for 45 years and this is how his wife has been treated. It is 3 months later and it is still pending in legal and when I mentioned an attorney, they asked for their number. My husband and I purchased several annuities with Jackson a few years ago. I have had to contact Jackson many times in the past few months regarding these annuities and have always been treated with the utmost respect, courtesy, professionalism and genuine caring from every one of the representatives I have spoken with in every department. I've read the other reviews on this page and I didn't have the same experience. I was treated with regard and the payments I asked for were processed the same day. I took out this life insurance over 25 years ago, when I was gainfully employed at the time. The premiums increased every year but were reasonably low. Now that I am retired, aged 81, and unemployed my premiums have shot up to unaffordable heights! Now it is $314.55 a month. My social security is my sole means of financial support, at $842.00 monthly. My mortgage is 849.74 monthly, my Car Insurance is $99.84 monthly. These are all necessary expenses. Why do you charge such a high premium on retirees who no longer earn enough to live on, what do you expect us to do to cover every day expenses? And then the answer stated they couldn't answer the question;(surrender charges for my annuity) I would need to call them. Do yourself a favor and use a different insurance company. Bought policy 10 years ago and need to update it. I have policies with Transamerica, AIG and Jackson. Transamerica and AIG are great to work with and have strong web portals. Jackson does not. The difference is amazing. Jackson offers almost nothing in the way of a web portal Nothing can be done online of via email. All documents must be printed, filled out, mailed in, wait 3 months for response, etc, etc. OK, all done! Oops not done. Start over! You will need extreme determination to continually push to get anything changed. read more

I wish I had Yelped Jackson before transferring my 401K here. I was working with a financial adviser who had such great things to say about this company including their overall financial rating. Seems like their rating is so good because they don't pay their customers. Much of my experience is my fault, but had I really looked into their annuities, I would never have considered investing anything here. Their payout % is lowest in the industry while their fees are enormous. I'll never live long enough to get back my own principal. Would have been better off keeping 1% gains in my stable bond funds. Surrender costs are also preventing me from immediately walking away. Quite an expensive lesson for me to go with my adviser versus doing any research. We had worked together for 10 years, but he also probably exploited my trust. And based on numerous reviews, it will be a nightmare dealing with Jackson from an operational perspective. For what should be a large and reputable financial company, it's rather surprising to see such a poor Yelp experience here. I'll be waiting for the opportunity to fire this company. SMH read more

had a policy for 20 years which ended in 2019. I was sent a quote for a premium of 849.00 a year. I never received anymore information. Jackson started taking out 849.00 a month, which shame on me I did not notice till 5 months later. when I called they said that was the monthly amount not yearly. I have not received a policy from them. They did not ask for a medical exam, blood work or anything else which 20 years ago they did. I find that questionable considering I'm 20 years older. I'm still trying to get rectify this with them. Now sending another letter. read more

My family had been paying them for decades and of course they couldn't find the policy once he passed away. Understand these scammers have been around and will prey on ANYONE they can. I recently called them and talked to a Karen (manager she says) and she had nothing but attitude. They sent a letter to my mother who is 81 years old and barely can understand what they wanted so I was on the phone to try to interpret the requirements they sent to her for a policy she took out in 1980. My mom and I both told them we were trying to clear up anything and get them what they needed but not this Karen. She was too smart for us both. In March of 2019, Jackson National Life increased my 20-year life insurance policy without notifying me as the 20-year term had ended. The increase went from $39 a month to $450. Once I noticed the funds that were being electronically withdrawn (it took a few months), I contacted the company. The company claimed it sent a letter notifying me of the increase; I never received any letter. The company also claimed it sent a letter to my independent insurance agent's company - please note he has not worked at the company for six years - and the agency never notified me since the letter was addressed to an agent no longer working there. Because I was never notified, I requested a refund for the increase. I was told no. I would not recommend this company to anyone. If you are currently purchasing life insurance through Jackson, stop and put your money elsewhere. read more

As I aged into my late 60's the policy premiums became unbelievably high so I decided to surrender the policy and take the Cash Value that was left in the policy. The amount was very low ($102.79) and I was required to sign and return a surrender form. Due to slow COVID-related Postal delivery, the form was received by Jackson 2 days later than the required date, so they kept an extra $77.23 and paid me $25.56. These are small numbers, but indicate that a 38-year policyholder is treated like crap for small money, so the moral character of this company is at the bottom of the heap and I cannot recommend working with such a low-class outfit. read more

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with as far as communication. They are happy to take your money quickly but try to get them to cancel a policy is unbelievable. You call and send letters and they still will not respond with anything but more invoices forcing another phone call and long wait to talk to someone who tells you it is taken care of but then you get more mail to the contrary. I just wanted to follow up on my last review. It is now April 20, 2018 and my mother finally received a check from Jackson National Life Insurance for a full refund. Here's the back story though...I had sent them the "letter of instruction" back in Dec of 2017, but never heard back from them. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when my mom was speaking to an ex co-worker who happened to have the current phone number of my moms former agent. My mom then called the agent and informed him of what had happened to her. Out of the goodness of his own heart, he contacted his previous employer (Jackson National Life Insurance) and was able to facilitate the refund. Thank goodness for honest people like him. read more

After 20 years of paying for a life insurance that was a term policy our payments went up from $415.00 a quarter to $5800 a quarter and we were never told that we had the right to a conversion 3 years ago before my husband turned 70. Now here we are after all the years of sacrifice to find out we have no policy when we would be needing it most. I'm not one to write reviews but I feel the need for the recent experience I had with Jackson Insurance. My mother's life insurance policy with Jackson Insurance needed to go to a funeral home as "irrevocable." I worked with them for at least five months to get this done. It was so aggravating. The policy requests, I was told, would take 3-5 business days to be processed which went on and on and on. At the beginning of this venture, I was told they couldn't email or fax me information regarding my mother and it would need to be snail mailed. This isn't counting the red tape I had to go through to even to be able to act on my mother's behalf! There were several sensitive time-lines, that they knew about, and because paperwork had to be snail mailed it delayed senior care for my mother. Needless to say, my patience was extremely thin. Finally, after months of back and forth, one employee actually faxed me the information I needed. Why the change in policy unless they were as tired of hearing from me as I was dealing with them? The other life insurance company that I worked with to have Mom's policy "irrevocable" to the funeral home was so easy and they were so pleasant to work with. That company was Nationwide. read more

Terrible customer service. Twice in the past few months I have tried to take out money from my annuities, and they take 3-4 weeks to process and they say that's NORMAL because it's tax season, which they define as January through April! They have lied to me about the date they mailed the actual check (postmarked the next day), they think it normal for a check to take a week to arrive, they promise they will expedite a check and then they don't... I wouldn't be surprised if they were figuring on making extra $ on the float between when they take the money out of your account, and when you actually get to cash the check. My wife has a Jackson National Life insurance policy since 1997, (21 Years) and before we got married. When we tried to change her name and update beneficiary information we got sent to at least 6 different phone numbers, various "sub contractors" they said handled the "Administration" duties for the company, and who knows who else. Finally, after about 4 hours, I found a customer service person who made several calls for me so I didn't have to sit on Hold. All I did get was a form mailed to us to change the name and said after I got that confirmed we could register on line and handle "All Our Needs". Guess What.....All I get is "Sorry, We cannot register your account on line at this time. Try again later." My next try will be cashing out and going anywhere else. read more

After 20 years of paying Jackson National Life Insurance raised my quarterly Term Life Insurance premiums from $68.12 to $521.53. I understand the "cost of doing business" in todays world but that amount is just exorbitant. I will cancel my policy because I can't afford to pay that rate. I realize that the policy has a term limit (hence the "term" part) but that big of a difference should be illegal. As usual I'm a senior citizen trying to keep up with my bills, but I only have a $100,000 dollar policy to leave to my husband should I go first. He also has a policy on himself in case he should die first. That policy will go sky high as well I'm sure, as it was taken out the same time. We will be cancelling that also. I wish I could put "0" stars on here. My original policy was with another company that Jackson Life apparently acquired along the way. So, I paid 20 years of premiums on a 20 year term policy ... a little less than $30,000. Ok ... fair deal right? Not so fast, Jackson Life unilaterally decided that I would want to continue the $200,000 policy at a premium 8 times as much as the last regular premium paid and continued to draft my account for 5 months until I discovered the withdrawals. I quickly wrote a letter and cancelled the policy and demanded that they refund the almost $5,000 additional dollars they had drafted from my account. A few weeks later, I got a nice letter acknowledging the cancellation and check for three months premium, keeping two for themselves. When I called their service department, they implied that I was fortunate to get the refund I got ... and that I should give up on the other $2,000, that their decisions was final. I inferred that I was lucky to get what I did. I Do NOT, NOT, NOT do business with Jackson Life Insurance Company. I guess it should make me feel somewhat normal to see that so many other people got screwed by this company as well. But it just makes me sad. read more

Jackson National Life Insurance Company has faced 3 class actions suits from the State of California , Texas and Illinois from 2002, 2016 and 2017 for the violations and breach of policy contracts with its policy features being concealed from the knowledge or awareness of its clients. Enormous and outrageous charges were compiled by Jackson to drain the accumulated values of the policy holders . Brokers complained it was Jackson who deterred them from revealing the policy features to policy holders. Our broker since 2015 after policy was issued has been avoiding us to answer any questions pertaining to the policy in email writing. He preferred telecommunication which he could beat around the bush. My spouse and myself are one of the victims from New Jersey . Policy issued in 2015 via the broker ' s sales pitch with that power point illustrative protection as a catch. Later as days go by Jackson put its hands to sabotage that we realize our accumulated values and some riders or features were added without no one making us aware of. We realized only in September 2019. It was rather late as we totally trusted the broker and thought Jackson is a great business entity without a doubt. We took every words given to us during the sales presentations until we realized it was not so as time goes by. . We wanted Jackson to rectify our position with the surrendering of our policy as according to the class action finalization which Jackson has settled with 22 million to 24 million. Jackson Representative did not seem to be open to resolve the issue . I guess these compensation or penalty amount meant nothing to Jackson as in 2014 and 2015 Jackson was reported to have collected over 100 million dollars just from penalty and surrender charges due to distressed retirees being taken for a ride. Not only at this site, since 2009 Jackson has been collecting the same from the poor retirees in millions too. I wish I had read the reviews about all the even reluctant to give a star reviewers way in 2015 before we fell into the " scam". Wish I could give 0 stars. This is the most difficult insurance company I've ever had to deal with. As someone who has to help make claims for other people I can say their practices and procedures are ridiculous. I understand confidentiality but their customer service is terrible and they constantly make you jump through hoops to get any answers. They will not fax--they only MAIL responses to my business so you can imagine the time it takes to get any answers or finalize anything with them. My husband purchased a term life insurance policy from Jackson National Life Ins, company over 20 years ago, when the term was up we were given the option of continuing the policy at $2,315 PER MONTH when we had been paying $127 per month.... that's over a 200% increase. Leaving us without any life ins. at retirement age. Jackson National being so generous to offer him $40,000 for around $200 per month after we had paid in over $368,000 to them over that 20 year period.... crooks, fraud, price gouging? yes all of them. How can anyone, especially when you are retired afford to pay $2,300 per month for life insurance? I have not one good word to say about this company and you should avoid them like the plaque!! they will suck every dime from you leaving you with no reasonable options! Had a twenty year term life policy with them. It recently expired and they began automatic withdrawing of $2,000+/month from my account without my OK. Won't refund the ridiculous premiums and stated that it was part of the terms of the policy I last looked at 20 years ago. Horrible company. The first 2 withdrawals I asked for were completely incorrect. They have cost me Thousands in investments. Plus lots of time, and effort. As many others are saying...I'm withdrawing my money, and investing elsewhere. They should be ashamed! They require customers to fill out documentation to do a transaction (Otherwise, they won't help you).........yet they ignore what you say. I asked for certain percentages to be pulled for taxes, and they pulled out more than double what I asked. From 2 transactions they are over $6,000.00 off the mark. My grandfather passed about 6 months ago, he had 2 claims from 2 other companies, they went perfectly, I was able to pay for his funeral, and all his leftover bills. Thank God he had those others, because had I been waiting on Jackson, id still be waiting. Not sure how I would've had a funeral, guess he'd still be laying on ice. They keep sending paperwork to fill out, then when you send it in, they send more paperwork, then rinse and repeat about 5 times. In fact I'm still waiting on my claim, had to have it put in with his estate, so now a lawyer is working on getting it for me, as I'm also the executor. It wouldn't surprise me if they still try and stall somehow, but my lawyers pretty good. read more

I am seeing after all of these reviews that my situation isn't different from anyone else who tries to collect life insurance from Jackson after a loved ones passing. I, like many others worked with several agencies including Fegli..The federal government insurer, and funds were released immediately to me with the paperwork they were faxed or emailed. Jackson has run me around over and over and over again. They need this paper, they need another document, they need some more documents....I have no more. My Father is deceased. No one will call back,even when they promise to. No one responds by email. They will not fax anything. They snail mail EVERYTHING! It is not 1980. I would give this company a 0 or even a negative number, but this is the lowest I can give them. My mother had set up life insurance for me when I was a baby under a company that no longer exists. She had it set to where the policy matured, I would get the money when I turned 25. By then, I would be the policy owner. I got a letter in the summer of 2017 and they said that I was getting the money back. Here's where it went downhill. I called them and they said I was getting $5,000. I signed the maturity form and corrected my name (which they spelled incorrectly) and sent it off. To my surprise, I get a letter stating that I would be getting $250. They GREATLY miss informed me. Four months passed and still no check. I called them and they said that they didn't receive a maturity notice form from me. I said I did and they had to dig for a half hour until they found it and realized they lost it. After that, I waited two more weeks until they told me that my mother was the policy owner. ALMOST SIX MONTHS AFTER I GOT THE MATURITY NOTICE!!! They sent out a letter to my mother who had to jump through hoops to let them know she took back her maiden name after she got divorced. She had to get the form notarized. She was told that she never checked the box that the policy would belong to me when I turned 25 and she did check it. So, she sent it out. They said they were rushing the check out, but it took them a month to get it sent out. This company is AWFUL!!! This is the worst life insurance company ever. Each person in the customer service department gives you a different story which includes more and more additional forms to fill out. I have been trying since October to get the ownership of a life insurance policy transferred and they just refuse to do it. They ended up saying they were going to transfer me to another customer service representative and hung up on me. I then faxed the information and they did not call, email, fax or made any contact to get in touch with me or my mother. My agent contacted me knowing the policy soon to end. We shopped around for affordable premiums since Jackson National wanted to charge $495 per month to continue coverage. We ended up finding a policy with more affordable Insurance with a different company and different agent. We were told that the policy with Jackson National was expiring and was told we did not need to do anything to stop or cancel anything. After 14 months we noticed that Jackson National had been continuing to draft $495 per month that's a total of $6900. Shame on us for not catching it sooner was pretty much the response we got from Jackson National. They said they sent us two notices in the mail which we never received. Now two months later after calling them and telling them to CANCEL we get a bill for $1500 for unpaid premiums. Are you kidding me?
