As a gas station and a stop for gas station food (chips, jerky, etc.) it's fine and the staff is really pleasant. The glaring exception is the short maroon haired woman at the little diner they have. Travelers - if she's at the counter just get Doritos and coffee and head on down the road and I'll tell you why... Twice I have gone in there and asked for a breakfast burrito. At $3.45 I think it's reasonable to get one of the quickest breakfast items possible made right then, especially when the only thing keeping her busy is folding aprons, poorly. When you order a breakfast burrito, her first move is to go to the cooler and see if there's one she can microwave. Last time I stopped in and she went to the cooler to grab one from the day before I asked for a fresh one and she was clearly frustrated but made a decent one and put the other back in the cooler. This time she tried to nuke one that was two days old. When I pointed it out, over her objections that nuking one was fine, she made me a fresh one. Sort of. She threw some sausage, onion, and cheese on the griddle and then left for close to ten minutes while that cooked down to a greasy mess. She came back pushing a cart with bus tubs full of corn dogs, burritos, etc. that they put in their hot case and I'm guessing were at least a day old. Having returned she plopped the greasy sausage onion cheese blob onto a tortilla (without bothering to add eggs in a BREAKFAST burrito), folded it up, foiled it, and with a big thumbprint squashing its middle dropped it into a to-go boat and chucked it on the counter before turning her back and walking away. I knew just looking at it and feeling the limp, underfilled, sad excuse for a burrito that just screwed me out of $3.45 that I should have just taken the two day old one and been happy but there was no way I was going to deal with that woman anymore. I don't know what that lady's problem is with the burrito making portion of her job or why she decided to spread some spite via burrito this morning but I have no intention of ever bothering to go into Jack's for food again. At least not if she's working. A confounding and really unpleasant way to start the day. If I was passing through instead of a local, you can bet I'd be telling the story of finding the rudest woman and crappiest burrito right there at Jack's all the way down the road. read more
