Rich cream on top covered with a few coffee beans, sprinkled with cocoa and filled to the brim. Has a bold, black coffee taste with a hint of whiskey flavor. We tried the recommended pie pie burger and it was excellent! Fluffy fresh bun over a well cooked and rich meat patty, we weren't sure exactly what it was but it had a cheese and ham blend over the burger that came with a flavorful garlic aioli. Large cut potatoes fries that were crispy in the perfect way, and came with a salad that had a dressing on the sweeter side. Duck lovers I can't vogue for you or this duck. I didn't like it, it was very gamey and the skin was thick. It was covered with a bbq like sauce that came with plenty of fresh vegetables and a side of rice. A nice, cheaky place to enjoy a late night meal. Friendly service and American favorites for music to enjoy. However at the end of our visit our waitress clocked out and left us for twenty minutes until we had to ask another server to take our bill.

I arrived to the Rathdrum Train Station and unfortunately all the taxi company's were tied up working a wedding In the area. I called the Meetings Bed&Breakfast to see if they could organize a cab for me. About ten minutes later a car pulls up. To my surprise and amazement it was the owner of the Meetings Bed&Breakfast Derek. He helped me with my bags and drove me to his establishment. Upon arriving he helped me again with my bags and showed me to my room. Derek also showed me around his establishment. I was made feel very Welcome! I ended up having a few pints at the Meetings Pub. Derek and his Family all run the B&B, The pub and store on the premises. They are all True Professionals and very cool in my book. They take so much pride in their business and genuinely care about their guests. My room was so modern, very clean. My room had a great flat screen TV. You have a great selection of TV Channels due to it being hooked up to a satellite dish. My bed was so comfortable also. The next morning I had breakfast! Honestly the breakfast is probably one of the best Traditional Irish Breakfast's I have had in many years. The coffee and orange juice tasted great. Absolutely no complaints from me! This did not happen once, but on three separate occasions - very bad first impression overall. Alcohol on tap was nice, but some beer in bottles not stored in a cooler, and so first bottle I received was completely flat. Food was extremely expensive, however, it was delicious. My partner had the venison and he absolutely loved it. Cannot fault the chef for the high standard of food or the waitress who served us food. There seemed to be a huge disparity between the professionalism seen in the restaurant area - waiters neatly dressed and food received exemplary - and the bar - not all waiters wearing a uniform and poor service. Even though the food was lovely, I would not dine here again or recommend it to others based on poor service and over priced menu.

If you find yourself in the small town of Rathdrum, south of Dublin, this is pretty much the only…read morerestaurant to try. My friend and I went on a hiking holiday in Ireland and we spent our first night in Rathdrum. Again, the town is very small and there isn't too much to do/eat around it, so Jacob's Well was a stand-out. It's a comfortable restaurant; the atmosphere was very cozy and casual. Some tables had pillows and throws on the chairs/benches, and all the way in the back, there was a piano and a pool table. We ordered breaded brie to start. This was probably one of the best things I had on my trip. The cheese just oozed out after you cut the wedge. The sauce drizzled on the plate was some sort of raspberry heaven. We pretty much licked the plate clean. For entrees, my friend ordered the onion and meat pie. It was really hot the flavors of the beef and onions were good. I ordered the Jacob's Irish beef stew. The stew was of a heavier consistency, and in general, I thought that the whole thing was too salty. The stew of beef and root vegetables was on top of a bed of mashed potatoes. I tried to even out the saltiness of the stew with the mashed potatoes, but in the end, I drank 3 glasses of water to compensate. The service wasn't the best unfortunately. I had to go up to the bar to ask for refills of my water. The staff were not very friendly, but I'm not saying that they were mean or rude either; they just go about their business with no bows or frills.

This is their second location after the original FX Buckley on Pembroke Street opened in the 1980s; but the Buckley family has been serving premium cuts of Irish beef since the 1600s! The restaurant's interior leans into rich, warm tones with dark woods, leather seating, an open kitchen, and an atmosphere that feels both refined and approachable. Make sure to check out the massive dry-aging fridge in the front of the space, where scarlet-hued meats are displayed through transparent glass panes. We made a reservation for 4 at 6:30pm on a Sunday night through OpenTable, and the restaurant was about half-full when we arrived, but filled up throughout the course of our meal. Our server immediately brought over a tray of their six cuts of meat (all 100% Irish and dry-aged for 28 days), including ribeye, striploin, filet, and variations on the bone. Additionally, there's chalkboard graphics on the wall with detailed descriptions of each cut, which was very helpful in our selection. All steaks are cooked in their signature Josper charcoal ovens, lending a lovely touch of smoky flavor. The menu reads "classic steakhouse", with plenty of different cuts and weights of steak, refined starters, plenty of sides, and a variety of options for non-beef-eaters. We also appreciated the fact that each steak comes with your choice of one of three sides (chips, mashed potatoes, or salad), as well as your choice of sauce (bernaise, bone marrow jus, garlic butter, or pepper sauce). Additionally, all steaks on the bone are served with crispy fried onions. Their wine list is highly lauded, with bottles from all around the world, and a master in-house sommelier. As two members of our party weren't too hungry, they split a Caesar Salad (€13) and the Free Range Chicken (€29) between them. The Caesar Salad was a fresh salad of lightly-dressed, crunchy romaine lettuce, topped with an almost snow-like shaved Parmesan, and Crowe's smoked bacon. The variety of textures and flavors made this a surprising hit. The chicken was tender and juicy, served with a rich truffle cream sauce and salted kohlrabi, as well as your choice of side (she chose the Sauteed Chestnut Mushrooms with Watercress, which were so tender that they cut like butter). While we found the portion of chicken to be a bit small, the ability to choose your own side (which are normally €7-8 on their own) was much appreciated. My brother opted for the 22oz Ribeye on the Bone (€90), which was a hefty portion of well-marbled ribeye on a dramatic tomahawk bone. It was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, with a signature reddish-pink center, and paired nicely with their sharp Pepper Sauce. His Beef Dripping Chips were thick-cut steak fries, with a delightfully crispy exterior, and a pillowy soft interior. Lastly, the fried onions tasted like an elevated version of French's Fried Onions (bringing back memories of Thanksgiving green bean casserole). I chose the 16oz Striploin on the Bone (€49.50) - one generally wouldn't associate the word "value" with a top-line steakhouse, yet this was truly a steal of a dish. Cooked to a perfect rare (cool red center) with a decent amount of marbling, yet still incredibly tender, this was one of the best steaks I've ever had. The bone marrow jus tasted like a rich gravy, yet not too decadent for the sumptuous steak. I chose the Organic Leaf Salad as a side, which was an assortment of mixed leaves, thin-shaved carrots and onions, and a tangy vinaigrette; I appreciated the lightness of the dressing when paired with the meat. We were so full from our generously-portioned entrees that we couldn't fathom ordering dessert, though some of their options were quite tempting (particularly their Bailey's Espresso Cheesecake). Additionally, their Sunday Roast (€29.50) is a much more affordable way to sample some of their Irish meat, though note that it's only served between 1-4pm on Sundays. If you're in the market for a proper steakhouse experience in Dublin with quality ingredients and thoughtful execution, looking no further than FX Buckley!
