This cigar shop is tucked inside the BoT building on the 1st floor. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and the selection is solid. Even tho the space is small, they have seating for those who want to light up on the spot (but not many seats.) As for cigar selection, they carry a wide variety and based on the cigars I have purchased, their prices are great and often better than some of their competitors. For the purchases that I made, I am very impressed with the shipping updates provided Jack Schwartz throughout the delivery. From the time the package ships to when it is delivered, they do an excellent job of keeping the customer informed on the whereabouts of their purchase. Add to that, every shipment includes a humidipak to ensure the cigars maintain the proper level of moisture as they travel. While it is not local to where I live, I am pleased that ordering from Jack Schwartz supports a local brick-and-mortar shop. Based on my online experiences, Jack Schwartz is world class. From a young generation getting into cigars. I enjoyed the customer service, the crowd within the establishment. I am astonished with the selection that was offered. To many it's considered small but I do not mind the size of the shop overall. The staff are prominent workers and awesome people. I prefer to make an in person appearance prior to shopping online. Had a very disappointing experience when I tried to order some cigars online from this business. I placed an initial online order for some particular boxes of cigars and was charged for them in full. Given that there was no disclaimer on the site, I was under the impression that there was no limit to the number of boxes of this cigar that could be purchased. When a family member tried to order a box of the same cigars, I received a call from the manager/owner yelling at me about the additional request. He said "we are out and there were no more available". He never stated that if they became available I would not be able to complete another order - or anyone in my family could not order. In the meantime he cancelled the order from the family member after she was also verbally reprimanded on the phone when checking on the order. All along, the first order had been shipped and I was expecting delivery. When I checked on it, it showed that the owner had intercepted the delivery and sent the cigars back to Chicago. I was never notified that this was what was going to happen. I sent an email sharing my displeasure and offered an opportunity to discuss the situation with him. I received no follow-up communication. A lot of aggravation could have avoided with better information and communication on the website regarding these restrictions. read more

Looking at my fellow reviewers for Jack Schwartz, it's clear they don't get out much to the larger "cigar world" Jack Scwartz is more of a spot for suburban/downtown male bonding as oppose to an establishment dedicated to the furthering of cigar and general high brow culture. This place reminded of a suburban Barbershop. They have a walk in humidor, which they use only for cigar storage, hence it's cluttered look with boxes on the floor. The cigars are sold from locked cases which restricts browsing. Only after demonstrating my cigar bonafides did one of the salesmen engage my desire to purchase cigars. Actually my main purpose was to get flint and wick for my zippo, but I am more of a collector than smoker, so I'm always interested in stocking my humidor with interesting cigar "prospects". There selection was poor, which is a travesty given the size of their off- limits walk in humidor, but prices are reasonable. I am interested to try one of the four La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Maduros I brought that now age in my humidor. They look amazing and smell both deeply earthy and spicy. Please note, the only thing I smoke is one cigar a week. read more

It's in the Board of Trade building, but this place is quite insulated from the hubbub that surrounds it. As mentioned in the other review, Jack Schwartz has been around for some time. How many recessions and crashes have we been through since 1921? Man's greatest passions, however--booze, love, and tobacco--are well fortified against economic declines. We're going to sip, screw and smoke in the best and worst of times. There are still a handful of places in Chicago the smoking gestapo hasn't overtaken, and Jack Schwartz is one. There were people from varied vocations, mainly commodity and stock traders as well as others, all seemed very friendly and pleasant. Customers were also from various ages. Need to share a very unsatisfactory experience I had with dealing with this tobacco distribution company. I placed an order online for a couple of boxes of cigars. I subsequently called and added another 5 single cigars to my original order. When I called to add another box to the order I was told the cigars were sold out and not available even though online they were still posting otherwise. My wife while at work saw that the cigars were available and to assist me placed an order online for a box since I told her the previous week to periodically take a look at the site since I might be occupied to not be able to place an order. I get a phone call from the owner of the company yelling at me that I placed another order. With not knowing of the circumstances of the call I was polite and listened to his tirade. The next day as a few of my family members also smoke cigars my brother in law placed an order for a box for himself. The order as I was told stayed in status quo for a day so his wife called and inquired about the order. As soon as she asked the question he started yelling and stating innuendos of a conspiracy of ordering. I was then shared this information and was aware how upset and shaken my relative was of the engagement. I checked my order status in the evening and it looked like the package delivery was intercepted and sent back to sender without any notification or any request from myself. Who does this kind of mean spirited action to void a transaction because they felt like it. On their site there is nowhere to be found of any stipulations of ordering quantity limits of households, relatives or any kind. If you want limits state it or have a threshold of limits. I reached out and sent an email to the owner to share my dissatisfaction but was never contacted. I have dealt with over a dozen tobacco companies and never had any negative experience like this. read more

I work right across the street and have passed this place plenty of times. Finally, I made it a point to go to this Cigar joint. The selection of Cigars is not the best, however, it works and the price is not outrageous considering it is in the middle of FInancial district of Chicago. The sitting area inside is nice, and you can enjoy a smoke while people watching. The owner is only friendly, if you are a regular. The people who work there are alright, not as nice as Up down cigar or Iwan Reis (sp?)....anyways, worth checking out. And if you are working in the area, you just live with what you get....and I was also surprised these guys did not carry Rocky Patel Cigars...seriously? I was heading to Chicago for a wedding and so I looked up some local tobacconists on Yelp before I left. I saw Jack Schwartz had all 5 star reviews so thought I'd check them out. I wasn't dissapointed! The store is only small, but they have a large range and a great varity. The guys who work in there are very friendly and have a good knowledge about all their stock. I was helped by one of the guys who reccommended varoius cigers and took the time to explain each and every one I asked about. I thought this was excellent customer service and he obvoiusly enjoyed telling me all that he knew. I came away with 4 different cigars (more than enough for the wedding) and as I had forgotten to bring my cutter, they threw in a free cutter and matches. Very impressed with the service and the whole store. If you are in Chicago, look no further! read more
