I moved to Charlottesville recently and was recommended this dentist by a friend when I told her I…read moreneeded a dentist in the area. I was surprised at how far in advance I needed to schedule an exam to see Dr. Al. The front desk had to schedule me for two different dates for the initial exam and x-rays and then the cleaning. However, my excellent hygienist, Rachel, very graciously fit me in for a cleaning on my first visit when I explained that having to find a sitter for my three toddlers is a challenge. She was the most through hygienist I've worked with, explaining each procedure she was doing, pulling up my x-rays and going through the images with me, and also explaining why I get tartar build up in certain areas of my mouth. I was very impressed with her and appreciative of her doing my cleaning (and I'm assuming going into her lunch break to accommodate me.) Dr. Al was friendly and efficient when he came in for the exam as well. We don't have dental insurance and I ended up signing up for their in house dental insurance plan which seemed reasonable and competitive. It also doesn't lock you into any sort of long term contract or payment plan so I don't need to worry should we end up moving or having dental coverage in the future. Very happy with this office and would recommend to others!

This dentist quoted me for 10 fillings which seemed high so I went and got a second opinion. Second opinion told me I only needed 3 fillings and to watch 3 other spots. The front office and hygienists were very kind but the Doctor was very obviously trying to take advantage of my desire to get my dental health in order to make a bigger check.

Geoff probably did not recognize the Sapon and Swisher Dental and did not respond. We have been going to Dr. Brandt for several years and will continue to do so! However, to cancel an appointment for someone who is disabled due to a massive stroke and has limited I Phone skills is totally inappropriate. Someone could have called me, his mom and caregiver, to verify the appointment. It is not like we are new patients! THey know us there-or so I thought! Getting Geoff dressed and moving is no easy task since he is paralyzed on his left side. We were there before noon and I was told the appointment had been canceled that morning. I would also like to point out that not everyone is glued to their phone and could miss an appointment reminder and therefore have an appointment canceled. Sometimes I do not look at my cell phone for several days-being a caregiver is a full time job! We will continue to see Dr. Brandt-she is tops! But, I hope that in the future I will not go to an appointment to find that is was canceled a few hours before because I did not respond to a reminder that I not even have known I had!

I've had several pull done before this and each dentist had the discretion to stitch the flaps of loose skin together. For my second visit and installing the tooth, I was prescribed amoxicillin which had already been noted that I was allergic to in the first surgery. The amoxicillin had to be swapped out for Clindamycin and along the way the pain med and the mouth rinse dropped off the Costco formulary when I went to pick it up. I requested to have that phoned back in but received push back from the admin Bethany stating that it will be phoned over a few days before the surgery. I work for the military and have an unforgiving schedule and wanted to pick it up on the weekend and expressed as much to the office worker Bethany. This request was made over 8 days ago and now that I am 7 days out and looking to pick it up this weekend. Dr. refused to phone my meds in for an entire week and even now as I am 7 days to the oral surgery and have time on the weekend was still being stone walled. Due to their negligence in ignoring a documented antibiotic allergy, the office was required to submit a correctio order to Costco, and in canceling the first order, they did not bother to ensure that the oral rinse and pain meds were still in the formulary. Bethany the admin, was patronizing to the demands of my schedule and repeatedly told me that "Dr. Ibenez will send it in when he has time. I can't pull him out of surgery or council for this." My needs as a patient absolutely put her off. Apparently, there's no set time slots or delegations in place during the work week for the insignificance of ensuring patients get their meds with some built I padded time. When I spoke over her out of frustration for her response, she threatened she'd hang up on me if I didn't allow her to finish her sentence, while offering no new solves. I'm told that due to the nature of the controlled substance, the day of sending over the prescription is based on the judgment of the doctor, you know when he has time. Am I being assumed a substance abuser? A suspicion pinned on me from them dropping the ball on antibiotics? The first go around they had notified me with a 7 day notice... Bethany should not be in a patient facing capacity until she receives further guidance and is capable of doing her job. Yeah, sure go here, Dr. Ibanez and Bethany's competence is unparalleled.
