This was both my first time using a groomer and my puppy's very first groom, and it was a terrible experience from start to finish. When I scheduled the appointment, the lady on the phone was kind and told me it would take about an hour. When I showed up a few weeks later, the atmosphere was completely different--unfriendly and unprofessional. There was a line at the register, no greeting, and I was only asked for my dog's name before being told to wait by the grooming area. The groomer, Evonne, came out and told me to take off my puppy's collar and harness. She was very short and dismissive with me, which immediately made me uneasy about leaving my puppy. On top of that, she told me it would actually take around 3 hours--triple the time I was quoted. Since I live far away, I had no choice but to waste time around the area while I waited. When I came back 3 hours later, the experience didn't improve. Again, no greeting, just a transaction. After paying, they brought out my puppy, who was still covered in loose hair as if he hadn't even been bathed properly. By the time I got home, I was uncomfortable from all the pokey hairs stuck to my clothes and seat. I also wanted to ask how my puppy did during his first groom, but the groomer had already left. This place left a really sour taste in my mouth. Cold, unwelcoming, and careless. Thankfully, I have since found a much better groomer who is professional, welcoming, and actually cares about the dogs. I normally have had a great experience taking either on of my dogs in for a nail trim. But my Russell/Corgi has a lot of anxiety about having her nails trimmed. I brought her in specifically to have the dew claw nails trimmed as they bother her. They brought her out and said that they couldn't get all of them done because she wouldn't let them. I stupidly assumed they'd at least gotten the dew claws done as that's what I said she needed the most, so I didn't check. After paying and tipping, I've discovered they didn't do the dew claws at all. I'll go elsewhere from now on, thanks. read more

As a new puppy parent, I thought I could rely on the staff here to guide us through the requirements for our first grooming appointment. We showed up and were immediately turned away for him not having enough shots (he's had all the shots his vet will give him for his current age). They couldn't actually tell us what he's missing, according to them, because hey just said to bring him back when he's had "more and a booster". Unless you're a puppy expert, this business will jerk you around and waste your time. We'll give him a bath and trim at home and we will not return to this business. I called one morning looking to get my partners dog groomed thinking it would be a few days or even weeks. The majority of groomers around town are booked months in advance! They let me know that they had a cancellation that morning and that if I could be there within the next 10 minutes they could get me in! I was able to make it in time and I was so amazed by everything! Not only was the place very clean (and smelled good) the staff was super nice and helpful! High hopes of a great cut for our dog is down the drain. The groomer asked specific questions about what I wanted done since it was my dog's first time there. She (Let's just call her Y) didn't seem to understand the measurements that my dog received at another groomer (1 Inch and 5/8 inch), I asked for no scent, do not trim her feet all of the way, leave her body, beard and head a little longer and to not trim her ears. So when I picked her up, the ONLY instruction that Y followed was not trimming her ears. She was packed full of scent, which I am very allergic, Y cut all of her beard off, her head is trimmed almost next to her skull, her feet are groomed like a poodle, and her body is almost shaved. $75 for a 10 pound dog that didn't even receive a cut like was asked for. $75!! I wanted VERY much to take my dog back to J & R because the staff when I first walked into the store part were SO friendly and helpful. J & R would have been our go to place for toys, food, grooming etc... I just can't spend this kind of money, did I mention $75 for a very very bad grooming experience. I added before and after pics. Okay, so I front. I'll straight up own that for over a year, I had this business in my backyard and I virtually never shopped here, instead choosing to spend cash at a neighboring big box franchise competitor, all the while fronting as a local business supporter. I'm a total poseur. Jack & Rascal's had earned a great online reputation, yet I went to the other place because I figured I could save a few bucks. Then, our dog started having issues. Without getting into the disgusting, fecal specifics of everything, we quickly learned our adopted mutt had an incredibly sensitive stomach, something his big box dog food diet wasn't going to tolerate. That's when we visited Jack & Rascal's for the first time. The employees -- always masked and visibly smiling underneath -- you know how you can just sense this, sometimes? -- were fantastic, picking out an expensive -- yes, it's expensive, it's super high quality -- kibble that she figured would work well for him. It did, immediately. Since the dietary switch he's enjoyed endless happy days and we're not cleaning dog$*it off the carpet anymore. We're actually saving money, avoiding all of the crappy dog treats we used to buy, sticking to a lean, simple feeding routine. And I'm finally walking the walk, supporting my local shop. read more

Came here looking for the self-service dog wash, since there are so few in town. I was pleasantly surprised at the area, it is private with a door that closes to help keep your dogs close by. They provide shampoo, conditioner, towels, brushes of all sorts, and a dryer. I added on a nail trim for my two dogs and it was great. They do limit your time to 30 minutes using the bath, which isn't terrible. My dogs are now squeaky clean for the holidays and smelling fresh. I also appreciate that they have a check in process for grooming and practice safe COVID practices. We take our greyhounds in to have their nails clipped and have never had an issue. The staff is very professional and the customer service is always excellent. Great place your dog grooming needs. Took my two golden doodles for a cut and wash. Both were done in a couples hours and looked great.

I have a water-hating cattle dog who actually bit me last time I tried to give him a bath. With coordination with Jack & Rascal's staff, his first visit for a bath occurred under sedation (make SURE they know if your pup is sedated before you go!) He did really well (considering) so the next couple visits have been possible without sedation. He still doesn't LOVE a bath but he will tolerate it. They aren't able to trim his nails, he doesn't get haircuts and is literally only getting washed and (mostly) dried. I'm cool with this because it gets the stink off, but they still charge nearly $70 for this service for my medium/large dog. Last time I was there, they charged $10 more than what was posted on the sign above the register because they apparently haven't updated the digital signage. Still worth it for me because my attempts at home are traumatic for both of us, but it is not easy on the pocketbook! read more

3 stars because the groomer was very friendly, the cost was good, it was clean and my doggie was given a little bandana. The rest... well... I'll just say that if you like to have your dog shaved, this is perfect! Me and my double-coat pup will look for a place with a bit more experience & care with furry dogs. Update: After my initial review above the owner replied and said that I asked for him to be shaved which is not true, what the groomer and I spoke about was a teddy bear cut and maybe a half-inch length. I did sign a paper acknowledging that mine is a double coat dog because he is - I did not think it was permission to shave him. Yes, I did comment that my dog didn't like the dryer, she even made a joke that no dog does and we laughed. I in no way indicated not to use the dryer. Yes, of course his fur came off in sheets when he got shaved - he was sheared like a sheep! I'm sorry, I tried to be diplomatic about the whole thing, pay my bill, even tipped the groomer because we were new, I was not absolutely explicit not to shave my pomeranian so partly my fault, possibly? Any groomer who has experience with double-coat dogs knows that you only shave them when there are parasites, skin issues or extreme matting and at the very least, let the owner know before doing it. After reading the owner responses to mine and other reviews I hope you'll use caution when choosing your groomer. read more

My only complaint is it seemed like all of the other dogs were picked up and dropped off at the same time making it mildly chaotic (could've just been a coincidence and not a regular occurrence)." Human tips: my dog has long hair and weighs ~50lbs, it cost $65. Additionally, it's polite to tip at groomers (you tip when you get a haircut don't you? Why not dog?) so don't forget to bring a couple bucks (unlike me who forgot and only had $2 to give as a tip). I am dog sitting a 10 year old friend's "puppy" and made the mistake of walking to the Cottonwood Mall dog park. The dog park was fine, but along the way, he picked up a few goathead stickers in his feet fur. When he stopped walking, I thought he was tired, but then I checked and felt a sticker. While I was able to get enough stickers out, so he would walk home, I couldn't get all and don't have safety scissors, so I was afraid I would cut him if he jerked away. I checked Nextdoor for groomers and found Jack & Rascal's. It was after hours, so I emailed for advice. Samantha responded within minutes and recommended I bring him in 2-4PM. I took her up on her offer and just returned. I was greeted immediately and a very nice employee took him straight to the grooming room, found the sticker I couldn't remove, removed it and trimmed fur and nails, to hopefully mitigate risk of repeat stickers. Although we have deeply appreciated Nicole's patience and fine grooming her, today was the last straw with this business. I called this morning to make a new grooming appointment because waiting on the cancellation list wasn't working. I was told that we didn't have any previous appointmen, but she (Bella, I'm told by the code-owner, Samanth) could get us in on a cancellation tomorrow. Great! Although recovering from eye surgery face down I took the call from Jack RascAl's, in case there was a change from the plan made (maybe an even earlier appointment?) Samantha called to inform me that we would be charged $113 instead of $75 plus tax expected (which used to be $50, as we have been long time customers). This was allegedly for an appointment we missed, which she said we had made for a date that I have known for over a year that both my spouse and I would be out of town. It was not on my calender and I did not receive the alleged reminder text. Because I use my phone for work and personal reasons I keep texts and emails, It was easy to check. No text. Neither the appointment or text were on my husband's phone, either. Samantha insisted we were in the wrong, she right (though no evidence of this) and we are to accept their mistakes in full, e.g., that I was told two hours before there was no previous appointment and we would pay an additional fee for the alleged missed appointment. I reluctantly said we would pay the fee but if there were future situations like this we might have to take other action (like maybe leave if we feel untrusted and unappreciated after at least 10 years of loyalty to their company). She proceeded to blast me again (kind term) with a and say we need to part ways. When I said this seemed unfair Samantha said she was going to think about it and call me back later. She did, stood firm in her position that we are to forgive any mistakes they make, said we choose to cut ties and would not listen to reason, honor our loyalty or even accept that we would pay a fee we didn't feel justified. Now our dog, in his last days (with congestive heart failure, bad vision and bad hearing) will start all over somewhere else, trying to get to know them in this late stage of life, hopefully with kinder, fairer practices. read more

I have been a client at J&R since March 2020. We moved to The Westside just as Covid19 was beginning to indelibly alter life as we know it. When I first shopped in their store they had no grooming open and were selling pet foods/supplies/supplements/etc. I was shopping for our kitty and was very impressed with the positive attitude of the staff & owners during such a chaotic and unprecedented time. In May 2020, I adopted a rescue puppy with some special needs, some of which are behavioral. From DAY ONE the staff, who were limited at that time, were incredibly supportive. Very kind, very patient, very understanding. (They were great with my puppy Kitz'l, too!) Since May, the grooming area has opened and I've been able to meet some of those professionals. The personal attention, understanding, time and consideration they show Kitz'l is above & beyond anything I'd ever dream of. I use the "self bathing" area, which is kept in tip top shape and is a full service work station. Kitz'l needs her black toenails trimmed every 5 weeks (yep. I tried at home and guillotine chopped one of her claws in half...blood everywhere. Never again!) They use a Dremel drill. One special lady holds Kitz'l in her arms, keeping her as calm as possible, while the other lady expertly trims her nails. No pain. Never too short. PERFECTION!! I buy all of Kitz'ls food and toys here. The staff knows us when we call in and are always so generous in their attention to Kitz'l. I've had staff take the time to show me the different kibble options best suited for Kitz'l's needs WHILE SITTING ON THE FLOOR COAXING THIS VERY SHY DOG WITH TREATS. In the last 6 months I have had many opportunities to observe the staff as they serve other guests, this is a VERY busy grooming salon & store. These folks are CONSISTENTLY kind, patient and professional with every client - no matter if you are on 2 legs or 4 legs!! Please note that they've returned to hosting a couple rescue cats for adoption - these kitties are in 10' tall catteries so that they feel extra safe when dogs come in to shop. Again, J&R goes that extra mile to be the best. I wish I had a dog with long hair so that we could try the fancy cuts & fashion colors!! This is a family owned small business so you can feel extra good about spending your hard-earned $ there. Pretty disappointed with my dog's grooming! We took her with Crystal who was friendly last time but very rude this time and seemed like she was in a hurry. Clearly shows in our dogs haircut- there are long pieces of hair over her body that she missed. AND to top it off, she SHAVED her ears completely! My dog is a poodle- you do not SHAVE their ears off. Her reasoning was that she had matted ears- well don't be lazy and brush them!! We try brushing them at home but my dog is still a puppy and moves a lot, but seems to behave at the groomer which is why we figured when they groom her, they would brush the matts out, like our previous groomer would with our first Poodle. I would attach a picture but I don't want to for privacy reasons. Anyway, looking for a new groomer if anyone has any suggestions!!!!
