Where do I start? the instant I was politely greeted by the Staff upon arrival? what about when Dr Sturm, and his super professional assistant, performed a second check to confirm I indeed needed a root canal? or when we decided, right that moment, to "get it over with"? well, all of the above! The whole process was painless, extremely clean, super professional. I was able to relax, by just listening to both while they were working - all those colors back and forward worked out well. They kept me informed during the whole procedure which I appreciated greatly. My only request, to recline the chair just a little bit, was also taken care of and that made the difference. After the procedure, I did not felt any pain, not even when the Aleve started leaving my system. It was only the discomfort around the gums or if I pressed against the tooth lightly. I went back to work an hour after the procedure without any issues The aleve alone was enough to help with the inflamed area but it was the amazing job Dr. Sturm and his assistant did on my root canal (inflamed, long roots that required extra numbing). Dr. Sturm, I did not followed your advice of taking a nap. After work, I went to the last concert at Chase Palm park, and I danced a lot. Sorry, I also had some cake with ice cream but I was very careful. It had passed 4 days now, no discomfort or soreness anymore, just keeping good hygiene. Dr Sturm, you are the best! I was extremely apprehensive about making an appointment for a root canal in the middle of the Covid 19 crisis. But this is something you cannot put off. Dr. Sturm immediately put me at ease when he responded personally to my voicemail message and gave me his cell phone number. He explained the details of the procedure and the precautions his office had taken to ensure his patients' safety during this trying time, and I made an appointment for the very next day. Any residual concerns I might have had were immediately dispelled by his extremely professional assistant Riley. She met me at the door wearing a mask, face shield, and gloves, took my temperature, then handed me a sanitary wipe for my personal use in opening doors or touching anything on the way to the office where the procedure was to be done. She was knowledgeable and thoughtful and put me immediately at ease as she guided me through the pristine, lovely offices. Dr. Sturm was excellent - thorough, personable, a great communicator, fun to talk to, and sensitive to his patient's every need. It's hard to imagine saying that I actually enjoyed my experience having this so often dreaded procedure done, especially during the statewide shelter in place order, but that's how I feel. If a root canal is needed, there's only one place in Santa Barbara to go. Dr Jack Sturm performed one for me in 2013, and I just had a second one completed by him today. He is the best at his craft, getting the work done perfectly and with zero pain or discomfort. Beyond being excellent at what he does, he was consistently mindful of my comfort and communicated clearly, timely and with a welcome sense of humor. Recently I had a root canal in the office of Dr. Sturm. It is hard to say this procedure could ever be a pleasure, but because of my pain relief, the excellent outcome and the gentle and expert way it was all handled, it actually was a pleasure. I did not feel pain at any point from beginning to end. Because of some cardiac issues, I was not able to have the usual anesthesia with epinephrine that causes the heart to race and I was worried that the pain might break through. However, Dr. Sturm and his staff managed this situation with different anesthesia, worked quickly and it all went perfectly. Whew! The office is beautiful, bright, immaculate and very pleasant with nice views from the examining rooms. The staff are kind and considerate and Dr. Sturm called personally to see how things were going. Dr. Sturm is so conscientious and very insightful and aware of his patient's comfort as well as doing A++ work. Jack is a rockstar! I rarely write reviews, but had to! Jack was able to diagnose my (extremely painful) issue, recommend a treatment and assist with my care quickly. He personally called me when he was on vacation to make sure I had an appointment set up for the following day. I had initially gone to another dentist who could not diagnose the issue and offered an extraction of my wisdom teeth, unfortunately, that was not the source of the problem. Jack's office is impeccable the staff is very friendly and I was totally amazed by the technology used to quickly diagnose a problem. Dr. Sturm is extremely competent, and he and his team are super friendly. As it happens I woke up in pain on a Friday morning and by lunchtime I was able to get an appointment. On the scan he could see that there was a huge infection on top of the root. As this tooth already had a root canal and a crown he had to cut and lift up the gums above several teeth in order to cut out the infection and fill the root. It was either this procedure or an implant. I trusted Dr. Sturm's experience and went ahead with the procedure. Not painful at all, I could not even feel the injection, and no pain afterwards. One week later everything was as good as new. I can highly recommend Dr. Sturm. read more

I initially had much anxiety over needing a root canal, and his relaxed, friendly, and personable demeanor was paramount in allowing me to brave through the procedure. We reviewed the details of my x-rays, he provided clear explanations, and he answered all my questions with professionalism, patience and understanding. Absolutely amazing. My poor daughter (14 years old) had to get a root canal today. She was a little nervous. They were so kind and patient with her and me. I asked if I could stay in the room for the procedure.- which must have been annoying for them. But they happily accommodated me and would keep me informed of the process as they went along.
