I was underwhelmed and disappointed with the preparation of moussaka that was served cold - seemed to have been microwaved to warm it up a bit and then had grilled cheese on top. Also far too much pasta prepared for a 5 year old child in a huge bowl. Seemingly no half portion or child menu available. The other two meals were mearly "average". Shrug of shoulder when above comments were made when dining. Shame as it was a seemingly nice venue over the Christmas period. This restaurant is right across from our hotel so we decided to have dinner here since it's already late and we were all tired from our long travel from San Francisco - Reykjavik - Berlin. Staff were very very friendly and pleasant. I didn't get our servers name but he had smile on his face the whole time and he was very nice. We ordered The Ja! Niko Ja! - which was phenomenal and very generous serving. My brother in law enjoyed it very much. I ordered the Grilled Octopus - came with 2 big tentacles. It was grilled to perfection. It was very tender and flavorful! It was delicious! My sister ordered the steak & chicken kebab with rice. She also enjoyed her food and wasn't able to finish it because it was so much food. The salads that came with our meal were very fresh. The complimentary bread came out warm, soft in the inside and crunchy on the outside. We dipped them in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It was sooo good! We asked for another basket of bread. :) Also, they came around and gave everyone in the restaurant free shots of alcohol. My sister and brother in law doesn't really drink so we gave ours away to the table behind us. Our server still asked if we wanted something else from the bar.. how nice is he?!? I don't really understand how the past reviews can give this place a somewhat good standing despite questions about its ingredients, service and overall standard of food. I can here with my mother simply because it was close to the hotel and we were lazy. I ordered a octopus dish and while the portion was satisfying it was underwhelming even for its avg to low cost. My mother's food was also underwhelming. The meal overall was mediocre. Even for its close proximity to a hotel, I recommend going somewhere else. read more

We stayed at the Intercontinental hotel across the street so we had dinner here almost every night! I never thought we would come to Berlin and had not had a formal German dinner, we ended up eating here for convenience and of course I love Greek food, we have so many Greek restaurants in California. We were surprised many of the German dishes my husband grew up loving, were actually the Bavarian/Southern German cuisine, we could not find them and if we did, it was so exorbitant, we thought we could have them back home in Ca for 1/2 the price! Oktoberfest was already here in Huntington Beach. My husband had the grilled dorado fish, it was just so phenomenal, we could taste the wood chips, I had pizza, now that was terrible, it was like cardboard but everything else on the menu was just delicious, the drinks were quite cheap, I had a Maitai for about $6. It tasted strange so Markis took it back and made me another one, it was very good. Poor Markis, they never gave him a day off!!! He worked so hard and always had a smile. On my last day in Berlin, I was mugged by a Middle Eastern man, of all places right in church! it was so traumatic, I lost my Iphone and with it almost all my photos from my stay in Berlin, I went to the police but had no help there. We walked home and ate at Niko, I was too upset to try another restaurant. It almost felt like home at Niko Ja, Markis tried to make me feel better, well, I could have been hurt. I ordered the mixed grill plate, it was really BBQ, the plate came with a lot of onions, fries, salad with Greek yogurt dressing. I particularly love the Greek garlic butter, it was so delicious to eat the home made bread with. I still can taste the Greek food in my mouth now. I wish i could have the grilled dorado right now! Maybe the food here tastes like it was prepared by a master, a chef employed by only the finest restaurants on earth. I wouldn't know. Why? We sat outside with the other customers and at some point were given menus. We waited for the server to return. In the interim, the woman across from us blew smoke, which is always gross, so we moved to another table. And waited. Finally a man approached us, acting as if he'd prefer a rabid canine chew on his testicles than to speak with us. He was the waiter. But we were hungry, so we ordered. After he left, I asked my traveling companion (Yeah, that's a shout out to you, Ricky Steves!) if she thought dude was rude. We agreed, he was an assjack. No need to spend hard-earned money somewhere if the staff treats you as if you're the shit they're scrapping off their shoes. So, we got up and left. I have read the reviews submitted by others. My recommendation is to ignore the bad ones. Here are my comments: (1) We had zero wait to get a table on a Saturday night. Yes, it was on the early side (because we were on the train from Munich to Berlin during lunch, then we had an orientation from our tour guide), but we easily got an outdoor seat at around 5:30 P.M. (2) After we ordered (2 beers plus our entrees) the waiter came over with a complimentary shot each of ouzo. It was very refreshing. Next came our salads. They were huge! They do not come dressed, which is fine because there is a bottle of greek olive oil and balsamic vinegar on each table. With the salads he brought 4 huge slices of excellent bread. We each poured more oil and vinegar into our empty bowls so that we could sop up the lusciousness with the awesome bread. (3) When our entrees were served--I had gyro with mushroom sauce and lovely french fries, and my husband had gyro with onions and a spicy tomato sauce with rice and tzatziki--we were both impressed with them. The servings were huge. I managed to eat about 1/2 of the gyro and maybe 1/4 of the fries. My husband ate all of his gyro and maybe 1/2 of the tzatziki and maybe 1/4 of the rice. We just didn't have any more room, and we a big eaters. (4) My husband's only negative comment was he was expecting pita bread with the gyro. I didn't miss it. (5) Our total bill was 33 euros. For 2 beers and 2 entrees we got our money's worth, and we got a very good meal. (6) They have a take-out menu that has a fraction of the items on the full menu, but that is always an option if you want to do take-out. I have the feeling that if there is something on the regular menu that isn't on the take-out menu and you want it, I believe they will cook it for you. (7) I am not sure if they take credit cards. I watched the patrons pay (at the table of course), and those that preceded us all paid in euros, so we did, too. read more

Look, this place is located in a super touristy area of Berlin and directly in front of a big hotel. Therefore it shouldn't be a surprise that the place is rather... uhhh... touristy. The reason I think it has low ratings on yelp is that people go there expecting a great restaurant, which it isn't. That being said, I think the food and the service are ok. So are the prices. Again, there is nothing amazing about this restaurant, but you can have a good lunch for a fair price. My tip: the "Grillplatte Athena", which is a variation of different cuts of meat, is tasty and very large. And the price is very fair (around 7€). The user Rasmus V. took a great picture of it. Considering this restaurant doesn't pretend to be anything more than an easy lunch place for tourists, I think they're doing a pretty good job. That's why I give them 4 stars. read more

Despite the mixed reviews, we tried Ja Niko Ja and were very disappointed. As a Greek-American, I eat at Greek restaurants often and the food here was very substandard. The saganaki was nothing like we expected. It consisted of breaded chunks of tasteless cheese that was served cold. The grilled fish was served whole and we had to filet it ourselves. And service took forever. We had a 7:30 reservation and our entrees were not served until after 9:00! read more

Friendly service but bland and unappealing food. We ordered a vegetarian dish which came drenched in a non-vegetarian sauce with huge unmistakeable meat bits in it (4 cm across). When we ordered the vegetarian food the waiter asked if we didn't eat meat, we said yes and he told us he had been vegetarian for a month as well. Baffles me that he would serve us meat drenched vegetarian dishes when he knew we were vegetarian. We ate 5 mouthfuls until we saw the meat. When the service asked if we liked the food we told them the issue, but they just got rid of the food without saying a word and we paid full price. Not cool. I'm awarding 2 stars only because the food might have been at least edible for non-vegetarians. But the dish was even marked as "vegetarisch" on the road sign. Super friendly staff and delicious food. We were a party of 12 with 2 folks that are skeptical of mediterranean food. Even with picky eaters they enjoyed their food (beef Kanab and hamburger with feta). The gyro special plate was a generous portion of moist meat served with a rich creamy tzatiki along with roasted potatoes. It was a bit salty but good. Other people in our group orded a steak and roasted pork. All so moist with great flavor. Each meal came with salad and warm bread included in cost. And the cost was quite fair at approximately 12-14 euro per meal. They did forget one persons meal and served the steak with fries instead of croquets.
