I was expecting to sit and read while my oil was being changed, but Orlando asked if I wanted to learn a bit about what he was doing so I could understand what other places might say when I go home for future oil changes. He did routine checks on other things--transmission fluid, tires, etc.--and explained what other places will try to charge me for that actually doesn't need to be done. Also, apparently, the last place I had gone for an oil change had put an A/C gasket seal where the oil gasket would normally go...PROBLEM, which is why it was leaking...BOTTOM LINE: Orlando actually CARES about good service and has nothing to hide. The price was better than I've had, and I received far better service from Orlando than I ever have at any other auto shop. The same guy was always behind the convenience store counter and we would go in so often that he would remember us and what we wanted (not sure if he's still there, also not sure what his name was). Always super friendly. TODAY however, we had to go in for the dreaded car repair. My husband had a mishap with the curb (of all things) and essentially knocked his right front tire completely out of alignment and nearly snapped the control bar, requiring a replacement of said parts along with a tire alignment. This all happened fairly close to the body shop so it was the closest place to get to without further driving/ruining his car. They got us in and out in just under two hours and the car drives like new again. Sh*t happens and it's awesome to have a place like this that actually cares about you, your well-being and the well-being of your vehicle. The mechanics explained everything very thoroughly [though we're both still car-mechanics-illiterate :) ] and made sure we knew what the problem was, what needed to be done to fix it and what the costs were going to be. They even had to order a part and they were still done in 2 hours! For what started out as a fairly terrible experience these guys made it as painless as dropping money on your self-inflicted car wounds can be. THANK YOU! Will return.

Either they're bad at time management, charge exorbitant labor fees, or are just scammers, but last I checked that doesn't add up to $6200. They take advantage of people who don't know much about vehicles and it shows in their prices and reviews.

I confronted them and said if the technician had taken it for a test drive after the service he certainly would've discovered the leak. Of course I got some B.S. that they always check it. Clearly they didn't finish the job. Also, they are waaay over priced. I called another service after the fact and found Dis-Honest Wrenches was overcharging by $600. There are many places in Des Moines for better auto service.

Scheduled an appointment for an inspection for a roaring sound coming from the car. The person who…read morehelped me upon entering (was welcoming) did not disclose any cost for the service. They quoted me just under $3,000 to change the gaskets, replace the catalytic convertor, and a myriad of other parts and services related to replacing the exhaust system. They also recommended I change the spark plugs. I had new spark plugs installed less than 100 miles earlier. When I asked them about this, they said it was only a "mileage based recommendation". Why should I trust any of their other diagnoses if they wanted $205 to replace spark plugs I just had installed? When I declined the service, the guy assisting me at the counter requested $49 "to throw at the technician". Not wanting an argument at the counter, I paid and figured I'd dispute the charges later. They put on a good front with the bottled water, shuttle service, and Biblical references on their website. They seem to have forgotten Matthew 22:39; the first verse they quote..."Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" I was able to go to a local shop and they welded/fixed the flex pipe for $120 without any of the BS.
