They didn't bail on me at the last minute. They didn't constantly not show up and always have an excuse. They didn't make getting something done so difficult that I abandoned the idea. These were problems I had with other landscapers, but not Goolsby. But there is more. Without me requesting it or charging me more for it, they began doing some kind of special edging around landscaped areas. I don't knew how to describe it. Instead of a simple edging, they were creating little manicured areas where the edging was maybe somewhat horizontally angled? No other landscaper had ever done it before. Regardless, they were making my yard look better than it ever had. I would gladly hire Goolsby again and only stopped service because I moved out of their service area. We did have a few issues with the hardscape however; the decking project was a disaster. We hired them to replace our 2 deck boards with composite along with building steps onto a deck that did not have stairs. Cheap material, laborer was not familiar with the installation of the composite material. When quoted the job we asked for the whole deck to be composite. We got the deck boards composite, railings were wood. In the end there was always an excuse of some form of "miscommunication". Most of the errors were pointed out and they tried to fix their mistakes however; in the end we still did not get the deck skirts for the steps to cover the noticeable moon shapes on the composite steps. If you are willing to work with them I would suggest writing up your own contract with noting exactly what you want. It's obvious what we wanted was not noted.

None of that with Southern Cross - will definitely be our go to in future. One of the things we noticed about John is that when arranging the initial consultation, he expressed that he'd like to meet both me and my wife. That's because he genuinely wants to get to know you both and get a read on your vision together. He spent the whole consultation listening to us, and quietly problem solving, he didn't use the time to try to prove himself or sell to us. He uses the consultation to get a read on exactly what it is you want. Then he'll gently makes suggestions and create something that fits your needs. He knows what he's talking about and is full of great advice. Once he had drawn up the numbers, he also wanted to come back to see us in person to present his quote - so he's willing to take a chunk of time out of his day to make sure he delivers and presents his ideas directly. I've never come across a contractor who does that. Again, it's the little touches that go a long way. The final project was beyond our expectations. His team were on time and completed the job when they said they would. John was on hand upon completion to do a walkthrough and ensure we were 100% happy. The back yard is now a beautiful place to enjoy and we just love it every time we see it.

He spent about 30 minutes with me assessing my needs and letting me know what other services he offered. I am appreciative of that because there were some other needs that I wanted to speak with contractors about that he actually offers... one stop shop always works best for me. He gave me a realistic timeline of when plants should be planted and what his availability was. He asked me what my budget was in order to map a plan out specifically for me. I appreciate him not trying to oversell me on anything. I look forward to working with him. After the work is complete, I will provide an updated review.
